About Guy and Claire Viccars
We are a couple that originated from Cornwall, where we both grew up in the holiday industry. After careers in the marine industry, super-yachts and economic regeneration we have found our little piece of paradise here in Lagrasse. After a 5 year and 600 ton renovation, the secrets of the property have been revealed, providing some of the most amazing architecture, sculptures and paintings from the Cathar period. Supplying plenty of things to see and talk about over a cold glass.
Guy and Claire Viccars purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Guy and Claire Viccars chose Lagrasse
The house is nearly a 1000 years old. It has a unique past and ongoing story that seems to build with every room you walk into.
What makes this Apartment unique
To much to tell so we will wet your whistle. Sculptures of the chief knight for the abbey of Lagrasse ( the true location of the Cathar trial). Painting’s of the battles dating back to the 13th century. The first 26 paintings have been restored with some on display at the village 'Maison de Patrimone.' 15 arches with the last 13th century arch finally put in situ in the early part of 2014 completing a loving renovation of an immensely historic house. Sculptures dotted throughout the property. Why not come and see for yourself and join us for one of our legendary BBQs.

Excellent property and hosts, ideal for exploring the region
Great location, spacious and clean property, very knowledgeable and helpful hosts.
Guy and Claire were always available and very keen to help with information about the property and the area.
The apartment was excellent and the outside area great for relaxing. It made you want to spend time at the property as much as go out.
Lagrasse us a lovely and interesting location in itself, and ideally situated for exploring the region.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, it is very much appreciated and lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the Arch Apartment and enjoyed the walled garden. Guy always says it is a little piece of paradise tucked behind the large gates and yet step outside and you are a couple of minutes walk from the restaurants and the all important boulangerie.
We wish you both well.

Our French home from home
We spent my 60th birthday , the 3rd time we have stayed with Guy and Clare, they are super hosts, and we look forward to a return in the not too distant future.
Again we had a smashing time and although we had been twice before we still found new things to do and places to go, plus the much loved ones already visited. We would recommend the salt production ,place, at Gruissan (excuse spelling), just follow the signs for 'saline' if your French is as good as ours. Other recommended visits: the cafe at Ribout (sit with the locals at lunchtime and take pot luck!) , the new 1900 bistro and the restaurant at |Fontfroid (spelling again). |These are just added attractions and an added extra when staying at Claire and Guys'. All the apartments there are lovely and a better welcome you could not get anywhere.
Cheers Claire and |Guy - see you soon we hope.
Many thanks for a fab review. It was lovely to welcome you all back and to celebrate your 60th Birthday and catch up. You don't look 60!
Glad that you had a great time out and about and enjoyed exploring new places and restaurants. Always something to see and do in the area.
Best wishes to you all and see you soon.

Most excellent place to stay in Lagrasse
Absolutely wonderful accommodation with perfect hosts.
The apartments are spotlessly clean with beautiful comfortable beds and lots of original features.
The communal areas are also fabulous with a garden area for relaxing full of lovely fruit trees an outside kitchen and plunge pool - all in all just wonderful.
The hosts Claire and Guy could not have been more attentive and helpful and arranged a BBQ mid week for everyone.
We have been to this area of France often and without a doubt this is the best accommodation and hosts we have experienced.
You won't be sorry if you book l promise.
Many thanks for the lovely review, it was lovely to meet you both. So glad that you enjoyed your stay here and always good to hear that the apartment was well received and that you enjoyed the surrounds of the walled garden and that we were the perfect hosts! We enjoy what we do and welcome the opportunity to hold the BBQ. Gives us a great chance to meet and chat with everyone.
Best wishes to you both.

With consistent temperatures in the mid to late 20's from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.
Lagrasse is situated just 30 minutes drive from Carcassonne and 40 minutes from Narbonne. Both these wonderful cities are steeped in history with many beautiful and interesting places to explore. Lagrasse has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, local supermarkets and a boulangerie to name but a few. In the summer 'brocantes' are held where you will pick up all sorts of wonderful and quirky artifacts. There is a market every Saturday in the village square where fresh regional produce can be sampled and purchased. Throughout the year you will find many events are held including live bands and classical concerts such as En Blanc et Noir. During July a internationally renowned music festival is held that engulfs the entire village. There are of course fireworks and live music to celebrate Bastille Day on July the 14th and in August there is an international ‘Banquet du Livres’ situated within the old stone walls of the medieval banqueting hall. All these lively and fun things will ensure a typically French atmosphere is found and most definitely enjoyed!
A two minute stroll up the main street will bring you to the tennis courts & the football & boules pitches. Sailing & windsurfing can be found 30 minutes drive away, so there is also something to occupy the more sporty! Skiing is approximately 2 hours away. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the river Orbieu which is only a stone's throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. Wonderful walks can be found in and around the village which can be tailored to suit individual needs. So whether you are wanting an invigorating hike high up in the hills or a gentle stroll along the river bank this region walking will suit all. Cycling is a fun way to explore the cobbled streets of the village and the surrounding areas we have bikes available to use. The Tour de France passes nearby each year and the tree lined roads are filled with spectators who travel from around the globe to cheer the cyclists on their way! Within easy driving distance you will also find a myriad of Cathar castles and ruins to explore.
The beautiful beaches of Leucate, Gruissan and La Franqui are located approximately 35 minutes drive away and offer all you would expect from French seaside towns. Port Leucate and its weather conditions are perfect for wind surfing, bringing keen surfers from all over Europe to hop on their boards here! There are 2 fun Aqua parks located within an hour of the house and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the O2 Aventura Parcs where older children and adults can test their climbing skills - and their head for heights - in the tree top adventure park. In Sigean there is an African Safari Park which plays host - to amongst other things - elephants, lions and rhinos.
