Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: St Day was previously the mining capital of mid-Cornwall until adjacent Redruth took over, and the terraces of granite cottages built for the miners can still be seen. The settlement was named after a little-known saint named Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village presently features a pub and a convenience shop, as well as a granite gothic-style church from 1828. The beautiful village of Portreath is six miles away, and its wild and rugged coastline attracts visitors from all over the world.
