We are delighted that you found our flat to be a pleasant holiday location. Communication with these guests was very difficult, as they only speak and use Spanish and apparently they do NOT understand or use English, which led to misunderstandings. We communicate politely and in English, which is an international language in an international environment. This approach does NOT cause any problems with other guests. Additional costs were indeed charged (as stated on the VRBO website, so NO surprise to the guests) for the final cleaning and for washing towels and sheets and for the check-in by our local keyholder. These costs are fees for our local keyholder and NOT for the property owners. These guests wanted to pay these costs in cash upon arrival, but this is NOT possible because the local keyholder does NOT accept cash payments and need to be paid via a bank account (which is normal). These additional costs were paid by these guests via the VRBO platform (which is normal). Our local keyholder does NOT work for free (it is normal to compensate him for his work).

Given the lies and exaggerations in the customer's comments and given that they are totally out of line with the other evaluations, we feel compelled to write a response. See here 'our' view of the stay ... The tenants booked for the maximum occupancy capacity of 4 people, as clearly stated on website and contract - 2 adults and 2 children. About 3 weeks BEFORE arrival, they fill in an information form, which they got from us, that they are coming with 5 people (2 adults, 2 children and 11-month-old baby). This left us with a fait accompli. Contractually and as indicated on the website, an additional person (a baby is also a child and thus also a person) can be charged an extra supplement of 20 euros per night. This supplement would then total 560 euros + VAT. (20 euros * 28 nights = 560 euros). The limitation to 4 people is a conscious policy choice for us! To avoid this additional cost for the tenants and to accommodate the tenants and given the fait accompli, we agreed with the tenants that only 250 euros would be paid to us for the extra person. There was a deal on this, for which they were grateful. Due to their poor communication about the later arrival time, additional charges had to be paid to the local keyholder; but to save this cost for them, we conducted the check-in ourselves; for which they were also grateful. Before the check-in, we also checked ourselves that the cleaning service had left everything neat and perfect, as usual. Barely 2 hours after the check-in, during which we gave sufficient explanation, we were called by them due to low water pressure (?). They wanted us to come on site immediately. For the region, the water pressure is perfectly normal. We have never had any complaints about this before. However, the cause was that the tenants were calling on many water tapping points at the same time, which of course lowers the water pressure (toilets, sinks, washing machine, bathtub running, shower ... etc). We stopped by at 10pm to make sure the water pressure was fine. In the apartment you may see a small ant once in a while, but this is perfectly under control with an ant bait box. This is not abnormal - you won't find many places in Spain where there are no ants. There are absolutely no ant colonies in the apartment! During the 4-week holiday period, we heard nothing more from these guests regarding any complaints or problems. At check-out, appointments were not respected either. The local keyholder was called demanding that they wished to leave earlier, than the hour agreed. Tenants expect the keyholder, just like that, to be 100% and always available. The property was left without check-out, leaving the keys behind. The property was NOT left in the condition as they received it on arrival (however this is stated in the contract). Generally left "very dirty" including embarrassingly heavily soiled sheets, many choco stains on the cushions of the chairs, the seat and sofa upholstery was soiled with stains. The BBQ grills were left soiled after use. Leftover rubbish and medication residues were left in the flat and started stinking. The dishes and glasses were dirty and greasy in the cupboards and needed to be washed again. Curtains between the closed window got black marks. Missing coffee cup and missing night light in the small bedroom, without notifying or providing for replacement (as contractually stipulated, however). Dirty children's fingers everywhere on mirrors and windows caused extra cleaning time ... etc. Extra consumption of electricity was also recorded. Finally, we received very angry, aggressive and threatening phones as their deposit was claimed. Remarkable was their proposal for amicable settlement ... they want to give us a good evaluation, provided we drop our claim. However, we will not be blackmailed. Truly shameful how disrespectful people treat other people's property. (Photos are available). We do not wish to rent our property to this family any more.
