Shaky's Penthouse

Shaky's Penthouse is a beautifully renovated and furnished top floor apartment right in the heart of the popular Peak District town of Matlock, sleeping up to four people in two bedrooms. It provides perfect accommodation for couples, young families or single travellers wanting to stay in style and enjoy all that the Peak District has to offer.



The luxurious apartment tastefully mixes the characterful features of the old building with new and modern interior styling. Decorated to a high standard making for a cosy and relaxing stay. In the living room, the huge windows allow light to stream in to the open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge areas. While Matlock offers many fantastic restaurants, Shaky's Penthouse kitchen is fully equipped to cook up a feast should guests prefer a night in.



Shaky's Penthouse is right in the heart of the popular village of Matlock - there are numerous pubs, cafes and independently run shops in easy walking distance from the front door. Once famed for its hydro and spa treatments, Matlock's central location, scenic surroundings and public transport links make it a popular base for exploring the best of the Peak District and Derbyshire. Shaky's Penthouse is therefore the perfect base for walkers with many circular walks starting and ending in the town.



Crown Square and the river Derwent lie at the heart of Matlock, and the gateway to award-winning Hall Leys Park with its boating lake, riverside walks, tennis courts and skateboard park. For a trip back in time, hop on a steam or diesel train operated by Peak Rail from Matlock to Rowsley, or head for nearby Crich Tramway Village and pay an old penny to ride on a vintage tram. Guests can alternatively head for the Heights of Abraham and take a cable car ride between spectacular limestone cliffs and wooded slopes for panoramic views of the Derwent Valley.

I loved the apartment it was exactly what I wanted. Great location, in a peaceful and quiet small town atmosphere, easy access to other sightseeing place without out the crushing around and streets busy like in cities.

Great stay right in the centre of Matlock. The town was very busy as it was Bank Hol but we made full use of the karaoke bar opposite!

A great little apartment

Great little apartment in a perfect central location. It was modern, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable few days in Matlock. Would happily stay again. Not necessarily improvements, just points for future guests to note – as it’s so centrally located, you can hear some road traffic and noise from a nearby karaoke bar, especially in the evenings. The apartment can also get quite warm, but fans are provided which do help.

We enjoyed our stay at Shaky’s penthouse

We enjoyed our stay at Shaky’s penthouse. It was well equipped and clean with comfortable and easy to use heating and furnishings. The parking took some thought but we managed well. Matlock has a lot to offer and it’s great being right on the spot.

Lovely place to stay! Clean and comfy. Everything we needed. Near to all the shops and food places. Near the park. Could easily live there! Shame there’s no private parking but not possible where it is. At least there is free parking overnight. Easy to top up the car park during the day.

Place is beautiful and has lots of space.

Very accessible to everywhere-we have made our way to Bakewell and Matlock Bath without difficulty. Check in and check out were very smooth. We love the complementary items specially the tarts and snacks. The place is well equipped in terms of appliances except laundry. I would like to appraise the support staff for being responsive all the time at one point that there was an issue about the water not heating enough but it was resolved right away.

Central Location

Travelling by train to Matlock, it was a pleasant surprise to find the accomodation was only about 7 minutes walk from the station. Buses stop outside and across the road to various places of interest. The penthouse was cosy, well equiped and clean with a comfortable bed. We (two persons) liked the second bedroom to store our clothes and cases which gave us more living space. Arriving in October the town was quieter. Lots of restaurants around and a nice M & S foods a short walk away. We did have a problem with the shower but a phone call to the agents (Finest Retreats) speedily rectified the problem. All in all a great holiday and if I returned to that area I would have no hesitation in booking this accomodation again. I don't think I can. Everything was perfect.
