On the plus - Lovely property, very comfortable bed, good facilities, fantastic location.But, could have done with a thorough clean, blanket had lots of hairs on (bed linen clean though!) and overall was very dusty, outdoor furniture covered in lots of cobwebs (not used for some time?) so we didn't sit outside. Couldn't get downstairs Tv to work. garage difficult to find and very small. Very busy street so noise at night.But overall, I'd stay here again.

Lovely, quirky city break property

Perfect location & property for a short city break in beautiful York. The BookClub is quirky, well equipped, cosy & comfortable. In a good area for easy access to all the sites in York & the numerous pubs & restaurants. Only small issue - no shaving light in the bathroom!

A fantastic find! Perfect base for exploring York

We loved The Bookclub for our 4 day trip to York. Beautifully furnished with everything you need, and in an ideal location for exploring the delights of York. We were max. 15 mins walk from everything. The Snug was fantastic for retreating to for a movie. We’ll definitely look to book this again on future trips to York

Lovely stay

Property was as given and all amenities were very clean and easy to use .. the snug was a perfect place to spend and evening watching movies .. only slight niggle was the student noise early hours of the morning .. but overall a fantastic stay .. Thank you

The Bookclub, York

A quirky, thoughtfully designed tardis in a great location to visit York's many attractions. There is even car parking included. It should be noted that the car parking is nearby, in a separate garage. I managed to squeeze in and out of my Jaguar, but it was tight. The accommodation has everything needed. However, be prepared for the stairs. It is a gem.

Excellent location but uncomfortable bed!

This was our second stay here, which speaks volumes about how well-located and enjoyable the property is. Its position in York is excellent, with most attractions within a 10-minute walk, and the included parking is a real bonus given how expensive parking can be in the city. Unfortunately, the bed is extremely soft—too soft even for someone who prefers a softer mattress—and we didn’t get a good night’s sleep. As a comfortable bed is essential for a city break, this is a dealbreaker which will prevent us from returning. Aside from that, the property is quirky, stylish, and in a fantastic location. Cleanliness was generally fine, though the light shade above the bed had a noticeable build-up of dust. It will be difficult to beat in terms of character and location when we return to York next year.

Short break in York

We cannot fault our stay, we had a lovely time and location was excellent, we walked to everything within minutes, apart from the railway museum, when we caught the land train from the Minster. The house was lovely and having the outside space was a real bonus as at the end of the week it was warmer and we had coffee out there. We liked the snug and spent a couple of the evenings watching films . We will definitely be bck in York as it was our first trip there and would like to come back in rhe summer time.if youre looking for a place thats a but quirky, and an ideally located home from home, then please consider a stay at the Bookclub! Highly recommend!

Anniversary Weekend

We have stayed in York many times but always in a hotel. This time around we came across the Bookclub and took the plunge to try something different. What an amazing place, the extra space and facilities were perfect for us. Perfectly located as only 5 minute walk into the Shambles but lots of restaurants, cafes etc right on the doorstep. We will hopefully stay again on our next visit. I should also add that the garage parking was very well located near the house. For those with a larger car we fitted a Volvo V90 in the garage albeit it was a tight fit!

Stayed for new year and anniversary celebrations

My wife and I stayed here from 29th December until 01st January. The accommodation is exactly as advertised, location is fantastic, approximately 5 mins walk to the shambles. Plenty places to eat and drink on the doorstep if you didn’t want to go into the centre. The accommodation was quirky, different and comfortable, if anything I would suggest a wall or at least a curtain between the bedroom and the bathroom (please note that the bedroom and bathroom are like an open plan livingroom and diner) so no privacy if you need to use the bathroom whilst your both upstairs. Luckily my wife and I were here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary so we have seen it all before? The added bonus of a garage was great and only a minutes walk away, we have a BMW 1 series and this just about fit in but wasn’t much room left. We would recommend this property and would stay again when visiting york if it becomes available.

This is one of my most favorite properties of all time! The bed was great, the shower was great. It could have used a shelf in the shower and maybe another one by the sink but otherwise the location was great. We DID listen to records in the listening room and I sat in the naughty corner outside reading for several hours - it was lovely! I think others have mentioned that it could be noisy outside which I think is pretty accurate though we didn’t really have any issues. The check in/out process was as described. They did comment about getting notified if early check in was available and just not sure my phone was getting out of country texts, and never did get a response to the inquiry email I sent. But honestly, minor problems as this property was overall fantastic! Walkable to everywhere and would highly recommend.

Bookclub stay

Lovely place to stay, clean and tidy, incredibly convenient location (lots of great places to est nearby) and really handy to have somewhere to park. The Snug was especially great in the hot weather as a cool place to escape and chill out! Two points for improvement: - the location of the entrance to the garage area could have been made clearer, pictures are provided but it isn't clear where on Walmsgate it is. Reference points such as the shops either side would have been useful. - as much as the open plan bedroom/bathroom is nice, as that includes the toilet a sliding frosted screen would be nice for some privacy. There were also some workmen in the back area on the morning we left, wouldn't have been an issue as they were outside except that all the windows were open due to the hot weather and they were using a ladder next door, so not great for privacy. An advanced warning would have been appreciated.

Amazing find for a short break

The Boookclub is a great find. Conveniently located, it has been cleverly designed to creat an amazing, very effective and very comfortable place to stay. A very pleasant contrast to hotels. The heating worked well. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the shower powerful. The kitchen was clean and very functional. Two reception areas were great, and the vinyl collection downstairs was a winner. Being able to extend outside to the naughty corner was a great addition. The bookclub is a great find and well located. Plenty of places to eat nearby and the secure garage less than two minutes walk away was perfect in the town centre. A great place for couples. One thing to note - wax ear plugs are a must. The bedroom is at the front of the building, and overnight the road can be very noisy both with students or vehicles. We stayed two nights, and the second night was bliss!!! Don’t let this put you off, just some advice. The Bookclub is really worth considering. We will definitely come and stay again.
