Neighborhood:
Located to the west of Tower Bridge and opposite the Isle of Dogs, Rotherhithe is a historic riverside district. Living in Rotherhithe, you’ll benefit from picturesque views and a laidback community atmosphere, which is ideal for those seeking a bit of calm amid city life.
At the epicentre of the area is the iconic Thames Tunnel, created by Marc Isambard Brunel and celebrated at the Brunel Museum. The surrounding docklands also bathe the area in a rich history of trade and transport.
Rotherhithe is well connected to other parts of London thanks to Overground trains and the Jubilee Line. You can easily get over the river to Canary Wharf or Tower Bridge in 15 minutes.
Rotherhithe is a small village in the heart of London. It is spectacularly located along the River Thames, just 15-20 minutes from bustling London Bridge.
Getting around:
transport.
You can take the Jubilee Line to Canada Water, which is just two stops from London Bridge and four stops from Waterloo. If coming from the other direction, it’s one stop from Canary Wharf.
Another option is the Overground line (orange on TFL’s map). This train line connects a loop around London, so provides a direct route to Rotherhithe from Clapham Junction, Islington, Shoreditch etc. You can get to Rotherhithe in around 15-20 minutes from these areas.
Finally, the very best way is to walk from London Bridge. The route is so scenic and runs along the River Thames the whole way. You’ll past the historic area of Shad Thames before winding through old wharfs – now mostly converted into super stylish flats.
Other details to note:
Canada Water- It's where London’s two newest lines – the Jubilee and Overground – cross. And it's just one stop from Crossrail. You can be in the West End in 10 minutes by tube, walk to Tower Bridge in 20, or be in the City by bike in 10 minutes.
There are gorgeous walks and cycle rides to be enjoyed in both directions along the river and two Thames Clipper docking points
As well as attractive stretches of the Thames Path, residents are close to Southwark Park, a Green Flag award winning park that has a wide range of sporting facilities, including a cafe, art gallery, boating lake and gardens.
Tube: Canada Water (Zone 2) is on the Jubilee Line and provides a quick route to Canary Wharf and Stratford in one direction, and Westminster and Bond Street in the other.
Overground: Surrey Quays, Rotherhithe and Canada Water stations all connect to the Overground network. Trains from Surrey Quays to Whitechapel take less than ten minutes.
Bus: Local bus routes include 1 (to New Oxford Street), C10 (to Victoria), 47 (to Shoreditch), and 188 (to Russell Square).
Boat: There are two Thames Clipper river taxi services – leaving from Greenland Dock and Hilton Docklands.
Cycling: A cycle route roughly following the Jubilee Line from Canada Water to Blackfriars is to be designated a ‘Quietway’.
Getting away: London City Airport is around 20 minutes by car and just over half an hour via the Jubilee line and DLR.
