Disappointing

We found the cottage dark and uncomfortable (e.g. sofas very low, too soft to offer any support). Supplies were minimal (e.g. no tea on arrival); there were no instructions for practical usage (e.g. cutlery tray hidden unless you bent down to look for it); two flights of stairs awkward for elderly people.

Perfect for a young family with lots of toys etc. for the children (ours are both under 5) . Village pub was lovely

Lovely cottage

Gable cottage is beautifully decorated, modern, and comfortable. We had everything we needed and the place was spotless clean and very well maintained. Lovely walks nearby and a great pub across the road. Would definitely recommend!

Nice little cottage

We hade a nice stay in Gable cottage. The surroundings were beautiful and quiet. Something that could be improved is the doghair on the couch.

Short Stay

Clean house and effective use of space. Good range of appliances Good pub opposite. Cutlery , glassware and cooking pans required cleaning. Noisy traffic woke us between 5-7am

Great cottage for exploring the Cotswolds

Loved the cottage! Perfect location in a lovely village. You have everything you need. If you could make the beds bigger (1.40 for the master was very small.. ) it would have been a 10 out of 10.

Weekend in Gable Cottage

The cottage was beautiful, and so well equipped. Lovely crisp white linen and towels. Nice little touches such as milk in the fridge, bread, butter and some cereal. Really lovely village with a great pub opposite for food. Would highly recommend. Booking was easy, and contact before was very good. Our dogs loved it. They even provide spare dog bags and bowls. Lots of great walks on the door step. A great place to explore the Cotswolds

Stay at Gable Cottage!

We had a lovely stay at Gable Cottage! Location wise, it is within a short drive to the major places to see in the Cotswolds. The roads aren’t busy and there was always parking available on the street outside the cottage. The cottage itself was very clean and cosy. I would say it’s perfect for 3 guests. The kitchen had a lovely welcome note and was equipped with basic foods such as milk, eggs, butter etc. Additionally, the owners left a detailed welcome guide which was very helpful in knowing which places to visit and emergency contacts. It was very easy to communicate with the team via email and they responded quickly.

WONDERFUL

We stayed at Gable cottage mid November for my husbands 40th birthday, a lovely note was left along with a bottle of bubbly and cake and both were very quickly consumed! It was a lovely welcome and lovely way to start the weekend away. Location wise, brilliant, not far to drive to all the tourist spots, local pub is great and people very friendly. Parking is on the road but we never had an issue grabbing a spot. Cottage is beautiful, typical Costwolds look on the outside and so cosy on the inside, lovely little front patio, great kitchen with everything you need. We would 100% stay again and looking to book next year at some point. Thank you!

Gable cottage

The photographs used to sell the cottage are not a true reflection of this property, The building itself is beautiful but sad to say the furniture was of a poor quality. (Sofa) The cottage was very cold day and night, controlling the temperature wasn’t an option other than (boost) which didn’t help. We had an infestation of wood lice, which we was told is normal for the Cotswolds, we have stayed at many cottages in the Cotswolds over the years, and have never encountered this before. (Maybe it is I don’t know) There was an issue with flickering lights in the bedroom, which was very annoying, after contacting the housekeeper company, they said they need an electrician out to fix this. So wasn’t fixed for our stay, (not ideal when trying to do makeup ! In summary this is a beautiful building near great pub. In a quant village, with a few interior maintenance issues that need resolving.

Our Christmas Stay at Gable Cottage

We stayed at Gable Cottage for our first ever Christmas away. I contacted house keeping and Bolthole Retreats prior to our visit and was assured the property would be decorated for Christmas, and though family and friends said their properties were decked out for Christmas when they've gone away before (not to Gable Cottage) we still decided to take some things from home, including a slim line Christmas tree and we are so glad we did! The small Christmas tree by the front door I wouldn't really class as 'decorating the property' and would have been extremely disappointed if we hadn't taken things from home, so something to be mindful of if having a Christmas stay as it was the least festive feeling property. The property as a whole was clean and tidy throughout with no real issues on this, though it did have a number of cobwebs in every room, guess this is common in a cottage? The log burner was a nice touch, there is minimal wood provided so you will need to buy some additional - Tesco's were sold out, but there was an Esso garage nearby that had plenty. Be mindful when having the doors open as it did set off the fire alarms due to black smoke bellowing out, though we were using small amounts of wood, I would suggest that the chimney may need sweeping. The neighbours came to check on us - which was nice. Location wise, its very central to most places within 30-40 minutes round trips. I would recommend the Reindeer Farm 10 minutes down the road for a festive experience! So would happily stay in Meysey Hampton again. Overall it was a pleasant stay at Gable Cottage, we wouldn't stay here again, but as a first experience in the Cotswolds it was a positive one, we would just go for a bigger property next time.

Your valuable feedback regarding the Christmas decorations has been shared with the property owner, who has taken your comments on board. We have also spoken with the housekeepers, who have confirmed that the cottage was thoroughly cleaned, and they wish you had contacted them during your stay, as they would have been very happy to assist you. Regarding the wood for the log burner, we do note on our website that logs are provided for an initial fire between 1st October and 31st March. Full instructions for using the log burner are available in the cottage welcome guide, which can be found both in the cottage and in your guest portal which is accessible after booking. The housekeepers would also have been happy to help with this during your stay. They have also confirmed that a chimney sweep has been booked. We hope to see you in the Cotswolds again soon.

Great cottage for a short stay in this area. Pub across the road is very useful as well as immediate walks both sides of the village.
