MASSIMO was a wonderful host and very generous with his time and the exceptional welcome hamper. The village bars were great as was the greengrocer , grocers and Pizzeria. It is opposite the bar. All easily walkable. We would recommend Villa MASSIMO to anyone. It’s very spacious. The weather wasn’t kind to us but did manage to use the pool a couple of times

We’re struggling to put into words how wonderful our week was! The host Massimo is the kindest and most generous man we’ve ever met and his joyfulness truly made our holiday.The home itself is absolutely perfect in terms of amenities. We didn’t want for anything during our stay. The home is so cosy and the furniture makes it feel like you’re staying with an Italian relative. It feels more like a home than a sterile “holiday villa”.We had no trouble keeping the house cool by closing the shutters during the day. And the swimming pool was divine, so refreshing for a dip after sun bathing.Castiglione was the perfect base for doing a bit of exploring of the north of Tuscany. We loved Lucca and enjoyed Barga and Castelnuovo but we barely scratched the surface. We had no idea how beautiful this part of Italy was. Castiglione is also a great little town itself with plenty going on and lots of lovely places for a drink and something to eat. We loved walking down to town for breakfast and had lunch at the cantina on one day. We can’t express enough our gratitude for a week spent at Casa Massimo! We can’t wait to come back!

Great location, fabulous host, a very warm welcome. Massimo is a great host, ghere to help whenever needed and a welcoming host. Great space and set up with everyrhing you need. Lovely walk into town (even for little legs) with restaurants and cafes to choose from. Would love yo stay again

Fabulous holiday

This was our 2nd time staying here. The villa is fantastic, the location is beautiful so close to the village and with amazing view. Outdoor features, like the pool, barbeque, garden, off-road parking, etc are all brilliant. And the host, Massimo is wonderful, so friendly, welcoming and convivial.

Home from home with the best host

A spacious property with loads of outdoor space (and pool). We were very comfortable here and could easily have stayed longer. The host, Massimo, is very friendly and most generous. We thought the village was charming and Castelnuovo is well worth a visit.

Lovely

Wonderful welcome and friendly help during our stay. We appreciated the persecco and fresh produce kindly provided by Massimo. Great accommodation and we really enjoyed the pool. Castiglione is a gem and we can definitely recommend the greengrocers!

Beautiful village setting with amazingly kind host! Massimo lives upstairs but is not intrusive! Welcomed us with coffee and wine, When our relatives popped to see us, he offered them hospitality. Helpful through our broken Italian/English. Accommodation had every thing we needed and the pool was lovely and refreshing in the August heat! Love to return!

Our stay was excellent, from start to finish. The house and pool were beautiful and the owner Massimo was very kind and hospitable. He really made our stay what is was. Would highly recommend. The small and quiet town is a short walk away and there are 3 good restaurants. It’s not very touristy. You must go to Lido Pizzeria, views are incredible and pizza is very good. Lucca is about an hours drive away, and worth a visit. Overall a wonderful holiday.

Unforgettabel week at Casa Massimo

We had a fantastic week at Casa Massimo. Helpful and wonderful host/manager. Great place/location of the property. Really nice garden and outdoor pool. We had a rental car the whole week, which is recommended to get around visiting places. All in all, a great experience. 10/10!

Wonderful hospitality

We had the pleasure of staying in Casa Massimo for four weeks. Throughout our time Massimo kept us supplied with fresh eggs, cherries, wine and more besides. He is a generous host only too happy to invite us in to his cantina to sample local cheeses with his friends. It made for a memorable holiday. The house and pool are exceptionally clean and well tended. Castiglione itself is a good base for exploring the Garfagnana and has its own excellent alimentari, bar, new pizza restaurant and grocer. Recommended.

Super

It was really a great vacation. We felt super comfortable. The house has a typical Italian flair, the pool was always clean and in top condition. The exceptionally helpful landlord Massimo made the stay a successful holiday with his hospitable manner. We can also recommend the Bar Alimentario, where you can have an excellent breakfast with a typical Italian dish coming and going. The staff at Alimentario is very friendly and welcoming. Lovely peaceful place to stay

We had a lovely time staying here. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The house and garden were much larger than we thought from the photos, brilliant! Our three children really enjoyed playing in the pool and in the gardens which are pretty and well kept. Castiglione is very quaint and lovely to wander around, we enjoyed walking out after dinner to have a gelato and enjoy the mountain views. This is a beautiful part of Tuscany, we had successful trips to Barga and Lucca, easy to drive to and easy to park. Massimo was an amazing, friendly host we really enjoyed the welcome from him on our arrival, delightful Prosecco and Red wine and gelato for the children! Thank you so much.

True Tuscany

Our family of three adult children and their parents gathered together at Massimo’s to celebrate each other and our Italian adventure. What a treat to venture into a true Tuscan community. We ate their food, drank their wine and enjoyed their true friendliness and hospitality. Massimo welcomed us on the first night with a table full of fun, laughter and food. His kindness continued throughout the week of our stay. You could not ask for a more genuine and generous host. He also respected our private times even though he lived above us. We certainly hope to return to this Tuscan treasure!

Great hospitality, quite, spacious and beautifull pool

Spacious, quite and clean appartment with very friendly and helpfull owner Massimo. On the day we arrived the fridge was filled with some basic breakfast stuff, some beers and 2 bottles of wine (produced by Massimo himself) to get a good start. The appartment and garden is spacious and pool is perfect, large and very clean as Massimo cleans it every morning. We enjoyed the great hospitality of the owner as well on Sunday when he (and his friend) joined us for a Prosecco to selebrate the start of our holiday. Very friendly and generous. Only remark on the location is that you need to drive 40 minutes to Lucca to get to the highway when you want to do some sightseeing to e.g. Florence, Lucca and Pisa (and other cities). No other remarks and we will definitely come back again.

Great stay at Casa Massimo

Or stay at the house was great and massimo is the most hospitable host we have ever met. At arrival there were the first necessities for breakfast and dinner. Massimo lives upstairs and the house is downstairs. As he has a different entrance you have your own space. The pool is for use only and you do not share this with anyone. There are local shops close by and the supermarket is 5-10 minutes by car. The pool is large and Massimo cleans it every two days. We got fresh fruits and eggs which were great! The interior is not very modern but comfortable and fits the ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to anyone. Please take into account that if you want to visit lucca and pisa that the drive is 1-1,5 hours. Thanks Massimo for a great week!! Grazie

Great stay at Massimo's house

High up in the hills right next to the mediaeval fortified village of Castiglione, this place is a delight. Owner Massimo's generosity knows no bounds - he supplied us with more superb produce than we could eat, including an endless supply of fresh funghi porcini, bottles of his excellent red wine, home made salami and vegetables. The pool and garden were perfect, it was calm and peaceful and we had plenty of space. This is the house where Massimo was born and he & his charming wife still live upstairs - on hand to help whenever necesssary. And it feels like a home, a lived-in, welcoming space with lovely old furniture and a workable kitchen. Lucca - a favourite haunt - is less than a hour's drive away with many other stunning towns and magnificent villas, parks and gardens nearby. It's sad that a couple of apartment blocks have been built on two sides of the garden effectively blocking the view over the village but a short stroll into the front garden reveals the castle and the old walls. Highly recommended for a stay in a relatively unknown but beautiful part of Tuscany.

Idyllic 2 week stay

Spacious, clean and well appointed villa with the great big benefits of a pool, shaded floral garden and great views from the driveway. We loved our two weeks here and would definitely consider returning. Castiglione village (a few mins walk away) is small but perfect and has a couple of restaurants and the bar for apperitivo / gelato. More amenities and dining options are available in neighbouring towns just 10 mins drive away. Il Pozzo lives up to the advertising and recommendations for a lovely dinner. We had read reviews of Massimo’s hospitality but we’re still very pleasantly surprised at his kindness and generosity: red wine, Prosecco, fresh produce and ice creams for the kids throughout the stay. He gives you full privacy but is always close if you need help or to offer you a drink on your way in or out! Despite not speaking English we had some good chats with him, thanks to our broken Italian and good old Google. We had some wonderful day trips to the beautiful Vagli sotti, Pisa, beach at Forte dei Marmi and canyoning - all recommendations in the information provided by Friends of Tuscany after booking. Definitely recommend the cooking class at home with Francesca. In short, go ahead and book. You won’t be disappointed!!

Flot og rummelig lejlighed, gode udearealer, god beliggenhed. Meget hyggelig vært.

Lejligheden er tip top, ren og rummelig. Udenfor er der flere steder man kan sidde og hygge og sidde og spise. Den private pool er god. Hvis man vil udforske Garfagnana er Casteglione et godt udgangspunkt. Massimo er meget hyggelig og diskret vært, men altid parat til et godt glas vin.

Great place - fantastic host!

We had a great week in Massimo's house! The place is very clean, big and well equipped, the garden and pool are beautiful and the surroundings are stunning. The house is a 2 minute walk from a cosy little town with a restaurant, a bar and a merchant - everything you need really. And there's a supermarket close by. If you need anything else, Lucca is just a 45 minute drive away from the house. Massimo and his family are the best hosts ever and made us feel at home. They brought us homemade wine and were very helpful. It is also a great place for children as there are places with shadow in the garden and a nice playground around the corner. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would love tom come back :-)

Wunderschöner Garten mit sauberem Pool und supernetter, herzlicher Gastgeber! Im Haus ist es auch bei großer Hitze kühl, wenn man morgens gut lüftet und dann Fenster und Rolläden schließt. Man kann hier viel Privatsphäre genießen. Wir kommen gerne wieder und empfehlen es weiter.

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt in dieser Unterkunft. Die Lage ist sehr ruhig, und man kann fußläufig im Dorf unten alles bekommen, was man benötigt. Der Empfang von Massimo mit Wein, Käse und Wurst war toll, v.a. wenn immer wieder nachgeschenkt wurde. Der Kühlschrank war auch von Beginn an gut gefüllt. Wir haben 2x im Pizzaofen selbst Pizza gemacht, ging einwandfrei. Der Pool ist riesig und sehr sauber. Wir können jedem empfehlen, bei Massimo und den Friends of Tuscany zu buchen. 10/10
