As with most old homes, there are aspects which are not perfect but add to the charm and sense of history - original old floors, windows and doors. The house is approximately 140 years old and features very high ceilings, painted hardwood floors, and is decorated with a mix of modern furniture and antiques. This is not a full-time rental, but is our home and is furnished and maintained accordingly, with quality bed linens (most are organic cotton), comfortable mattresses, good knives and pots/pans in the kitchen.
I have put a lot of effort into making my home a healthy and happy one. I am especially interested in recycling, conservation and sustainable living. I have made efforts to reduce the use of plastics and other non-renewable materials. All of the walls and trim were painted with zero VOC paint. There are recycling bins provided. The house is cleaned with all-natural/non-toxic cleaning supplies and the linens/towels are washed in organic unscented detergent.
Enhanced cleaning procedures using all non-toxic cleaning products, beginning and ending with Force of Nature disinfectant (certified by the EPA to kill coronavirus, norovirus and more). Weekly housekeeping included in rental and provided by my longtime trusted housekeeper.
Exterior Features:
- Gated entrance with keypad lock and privacy fence for security. *Note this entrance is shared by the rear carriage house which not included in this rental. The front gate entrance is the only shared space - the two houses each have their own outdoor spaces, front doors etc.
- Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail on the private patio. There are 4 chairs and two small tables, an outdoor fan to keep you cool, an herb garden, tomato plants (feel free to enjoy the fresh tomatoes through the mild New Orleans winter).
- Street parking available directly in front of the house. There is no driveway but I've never had a problem getting a spot just in front of my house.
- Fenced property with gated keypad entrance. Please note the outdoor space is a patio, not a fenced yard.
Interior Features:
- The home is approximately 140 years old and was renovated in 2020. High ceilings, painted original hardwood floors, lots of period features, decorated with a mix of modern furniture and antiques.
- The living room features an electric fireplace, a smart TV (login to your own Netflix, Amazon, Hulu etc accounts), a new desk with external monitor and HDMI cable for comfortable working and 2 big bookcases full of books to enjoy during your stay.
- The dining room features a table which seats 6 in authentic Tolix chairs
- The kitchen has brand new countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast bar with 4 stools for easy dining. All appliances are full size. Filtered water from the kitchen faucet. Make coffee with your choice of a Nespresso Vertuo machine or French press/cafetiere. Electric kettle for those who prefer a cup of tea. Kitchen is stocked with a supply of organic spices and condiments.
- Bedroom 1 - Master bedroom - Queen sized bed. High quality eco-friendly Keetsa mattress. Private ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower.
- Bedroom 2 - Queen-sized iron bed custom made by ironworks artist with high quality eco-friendly Keetsa pillow plus mattress. Antique dresser. Connected to Bedroom 3 through a shared bathroom. Exterior door leading to outdoor private patio.
- Bedroom 3 - Twin size antique Jenny Lind bed with organic Joybed mattress. Additional organic Japanese floor mattress suitable for up to two children or one adult. Connected to Bedroom 2 through a shared bathroom.
- Bathroom 2 - Shared between bedrooms 2 and 3. Bathtub with shower over it. The laundry machines are also in this bathroom.
House Rules:
- Your stay will include weekly cleaning provided by my longtime trusted housekeeper. There is also a weekly lawn care service.
- This property is appropriate for well-behaved children and adults. It is not child or baby proof either inside or outside.
- No smoking.
- No pets.
- No parties or events.
- Quiet hours of 10pm to 8am. Please be respectful of the neighbors.
- No additional guests beyond 6 adults. Confirmed guests only - homeowner/property manager must be notified of any additional guests beyond those stated on your reservation. Security cameras are on the property and we monitor guest numbers. Unconfirmed guests will result in an additional charge and may result in the cancellation of your reservation.
- Your stay includes (and requires) weekly cleaning by my longtime trusted housekeeper who is paid a living wage. This can be arranged at a mutually beneficial time. Housekeeping includes cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors, dusting, washing sheets and towels and changing the beds. It does not include your personal laundry or ironing, but you may arrange that separately if required. It also does not include picking up after guests/their children or cleaning up guests' mess. Guests are still expected to keep and leave the house tidy and without damage or stains to the walls, floors, furniture etc. Anything beyond normal cleaning will result in an additional charge, to come out of the damage deposit if necessary.
- Guests will be required to pay for additional cleaning if furniture, walls, curtains etc are soiled or damaged. Evidence of pets or smoking indoors will result in forfeiture of the entire security deposit to cover cleaning.
