## Emplacement
Fréjus has preserved a large number of monuments from its past. In fact, with 2,000 years of history, this Var town of Art and History boasts a significant historical and architectural heritage. The Roman remains are the oldest traces of its past, and include an amphitheatre, a theater and an aqueduct, of which a few pillars and arcades remain. Dating back to the end of the 1st century, the arena could accommodate up to 12,000 spectators who came to watch gladiatorial combat! In the old town, the Fréjus Episcopal Group, built between the 5th and 16th centuries, is also part of this remarkable heritage. It includes the beautiful Saint-Léonce cathedral, with its Romanesque bell tower and two naves linked by several arcades. The octagonal baptistry, dating from the 5th century and one of the oldest in France, the episcopal palace transformed into the town hall, and the Romanesque cloister, whose wooden ceiling has been decorated with characters and animals, both real and imaginary. Adjacent to the cloister is the Archaeological Museum, home to some remarkable ancient sculptures excavated in the Roman town.
