An amazing retreat in a charming small town across from one of the best family campgrounds we have ever encountered! The rustic, authentic charm of this super cozy house was just absolutely perfect for us! A short 2 minute walk to the world class beach on Lake Superior. My wife found abundant agates and Yooperlites on the beach. We loved the town, its restaurants and especially the locals. 7 days of pure heaven and rest

Fabulous week at The Dutch Cottage

Our family had a great week at The Dutch Cottage in early July. It was clean, comfortable and great proximity to beaches, Pictured Rocks and various amenities.

Great vacation

Fourth time to Munising; second time renting The Dutch. The cottage has all the amenities we need and more. The location is exemplary - walking distance to local beaches, coffee and downtown services. Our kids enjoyed renting electric scooters from the next-door, Camp Store. Munising is a 45 minute drive where you can rent pontoons or kayak Pictured Rocks. Less than a 45 min drive to other notable beaches. Grand Marais is the best!

We stayed at the cottage for 4 nights. The very comfortable cabin decor fit us perfectly and was a wonderful location for rock hunting and exploring. But this cottage really needs some immediate simple loving care. For example, the kitchen table lights were blinking off and on along with the ceiling fan light in living room. The bathroom door handle screws were falling out and the toilet seat which was loose on left side and in danger of breaking. We found screwdrivers and fixed those simple issues. The wildfire smoke from Canada was at dangerous levels during our stay. Could not be helped, but no air conditioning in the cottage was a critical lack. We wore N95 masks during our visit. The only suggestion when I called to check in was to close the windows and run the fans. It worked to keep some smoke out but was a very stuffy environment and still had some smoke in the interior air. I think adding a portable air filter unit in the bedrooms would be a good fix for smoke incidents in future. They offered to bring us additional fans if needed but there were already 4 of them around the cottage. It was just an unfortunate unavoidable situation. But what could be fixed is the downstairs bedroom mattress, it really needs to be replaced. It is very bumpy and simply uncomfortable. So we would not book again at cottage unless the bed was updated and I think we will be looking for some type of air filtration in all our future rentals even in the cooler upper peninsula.

Very quiet, close to everything,

Great location, just an easy walk to town and beaches and right off 58 to get to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We would definitely stay in Grand Marais again, rather than in Munising. I saw some comments in the guest book describing "The Cottage" as cozy, but we would describe it as a rather worn, dark, dated cabin with old couches, stuffed chairs and beds and a basement that I would never go into. I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. Surfaces were clean (eg, floors, counters) and kitchen is very well equipped. Although the cabin is just across a narrow road from the city campground, it was extremely quiet. We heard almost no noises at all, at any time of day. Really nice to be able to use the garage. It was raining when we left and we appreciated being able to load our car out of the rain. The downstairs bedroom was OK with worn sheets, the pillows had no pillow liners which is a bit of an ick-factor and it had only one too-warm comforter. Room has good ventilation with windows on two sides and a ceiling fan. Bathroom is adequate with large shower and plenty of towels. The upstairs gets extremely hot even if the outside temperature is only 70 degrees. With fans it cools off around midnight to more sleep-able temp. One bed was unusable as it was so lumpy and saggy. The stairs were almost hazardous to climb and and after tripping several times on the floor rugs we removed them. With a few improvements, The Cottage could be a lot more comfortable.

Grand Marais Cottage

This property was well located and quiet, clean, the beds were comfortable, had it had every amenity we could wish for. We would stay here again!

Cute, clean, well supplied little cottage.

Once we purchased firewood and had a fire, the cottage warmed nicely.

No issues. Everything was as described.

Rented for a two day snowmobile trip. The place was as described. It was clean. Convenient location to trails and rentals. Leslie was responsive to all questions. We would rent again.
