Located in the heart of the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this English basement apartment has it all: Proximity to Eastern Market, Metro access, history, peace and quiet.

Your hosts are long-time Capitol Hill residents - one is even a licensed DC tour guide - and can help you get the most out of your stay.



The Space:

Our charming English basement apartment with a private entrance was newly renovated 2-years ago with all new appliances and cabinets. It has two bedrooms: bedroom 1 has a queen bed and bedroom 2 has a single trundle bed that can pull out into 2 single beds. Bedroom 1 has a smart TV as well.



The apartment is ideal for up to 3 adults, or a couple with up to 2 children. There is a living room area with a large smart TV and a dining area with a table and 4 chairs, along with 3 countertop barstools facing the kitchen area. There is also a full washer and dryer. We live upstairs and are available to answer any questions you may have.



Guest Access:

Our Capitol Hill neighborhood is extremely walkable. You will not need a car as the Eastern Market metro is only 4 blocks away. But if you have a car there is easy parking on our street often right in front of our house. We will provide you with a street parking pass. There is even a Capitol Bikeshare station 1/2 a block away where short-term bike rentals are possible.



There are amenities close by, a cute café 1-1/2 blocks away, a convenience market 1/2 a block, as well as full-service grocery stores including Trader Joe's within easy walking distance.



If you visit with young children, there are playgrounds all across Capitol Hill, including one in Lincoln Park two blocks from the apartment, as well as a brand new one near Eastern Market Metro. See pictures for an idea of what they look like.



The Neighborhood:

The Capitol Hill neighborhood boasts a wide variety of attractions, from the United States Capitol, Library of Congress and the Washington Navy Yard to such local favorites as Lincoln Park, the Folger Shakespeare Library and Eastern Market. With Metro just four blocks away, access to all parts of the city and its attractions is easy.



Getting Around:

Getting to and from the house is easy, whether by Metro, car or bike. There is even a Capitol Bikeshare station 1/2 a block away where short-term rentals are possible.



Street parking is generally easy, and usually you can even park right in front of the apartment. We can assist in getting you a parking pass before you arrive.



Other Things to Note:

While the house was built in 1913 and was inhabited for most of the first 50 years by the government clerks who defined Capitol Hill in that time, it gained historical importance in the early 1970s, when the Furies, a radical group of Lesbian feminists used the house to write, edit, and publish their newspaper, also called "The Furies." While the collective used the whole house - a number of them lived there, as well - the basement was the focal point of their work, as pictures from the time attest. While little direct evidence of the time remains, memories of the time linger, and were even given the imprimatur of the National Park Service's National Registry of Historic Places in 2016.
