We arrived to a precious beach house that was well-decorated, clean and cozy. The location truly seemed like a wonderful place, but unfortunately, we were unable to use the hot tub or access the beach from Surfside, due to the INSANE amount of mosquitoes, which literally tried to carry my family away. We attempted to walk across the street, to a public beach access location, but that ended in crying kids and all of us bolting back to the house. I counted 50 bites on just one of my children and 30 on the others. In under 10 minutes! That said, we didn’t allow that one bad experience to ruin our fun! We drove into Galveston, where we were able to access public beaches there for a bit before returning to our rental. The only other issue we experienced was the quality of the water in Surfside is pretty awful. The water that comes out the faucet has a funny smell and a yellow tint. As much as we TRULY LOVED this rental and appreciated how well-stocked it was (a large bottle of drinking water in the fridge to greet us, plenty of dishes and cups for our family, spotless counters, floors and bathrooms, plenty of towels and washcloths, shampoo and conditioner, dish and hand soap, and lots of condiments for cooking), the mosquitoes and water situation will prevent us from returning to this location. We appreciate how responsive the host was and the house truly was perfect for our family to rest at night, in spite of the difficulties we had. Thanks for hosting our crew!
