The house was clean, spacious, and conveniently located for visiting Portland, and the host was pleasant and responsive. Unfortunately, our stay was not what we expected based on the listing. Our biggest concern was privacy. The listing states this is the hosts’ primary home, but we did not realize that while renting it, they stay in a tiny house on the same property. During our stay, they were frequently around, including working in the attached garage. We found this uncomfortable and felt more like guests in someone’s occupied home than in a private vacation rental. Numerous cabinets had “Keep Out” notes, and personal belongings were throughout the house. We ultimately did not use the hot tub because we felt uncomfortable with the hosts nearby.A few layout details are also worth noting: the shower in the upstairs non-primary bathroom is extremely small, and although the home has three full bathrooms, the third is on the main floor rather than near the bedrooms. We were also surprised by additional charges, particularly since the listing says, “Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.” Hot tub use was 25/night, an amount not disclosed in the listing. We learned of the 100 charge in our check-in instructions and paid it, although we did not use it. AC is also an additional 25/day in summer, which is not disclosed in the listing.Had we understood the additional costs, bathroom layout, and owners’ presence on the property, we would have chosen a different rental.
