This is a 1 bedroom / 1 bath suite located at "The Ash," a vintage motel renovated into an eclectic and modern mix of vacation rentals.
This eclectic and cozy suite features a living area with a flat-screen TV, nap-worthy day bed and picture window that fills the space with natural light. A kitchen features a wet bar, small refrigerator, microwave, sink, and most importantly a coffee maker.
The living space displays the works of Michigan artisans, local and vintage furniture touches to complement a decor with hints of charm. Neutral palettes with pops of color are featured in all of the fun and photo-worthy suites.

Convenient parking is located directly in front of each suite. Our single story and open floor plans are super convenient.
Restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and boating are all just a short drive from this ideally located property.
Kindly inform us if you plan to travel with a pet. Our pet fee is $75.

I am so happy I discovered The Ash. The price was comparable to the big chain hotels in the area, and the additional space to spread out made me feel at home. I was very comfortable there. Like the owners, I love the romance of these old motor court-style motels, and I love what they've done to bring new life to this charming property. If I ever return to the Soo this is definitely my go-to vacation home.

The room was fairly clean. The place was very comfortable. Our host connected with us via the message website. The place was fairly close to the thw downtown area.

The place was clean and quiet. No problems with checking in or out. My only issues were furniture was very sparse. Took a table from bedroom to put by chair. Watching TV was extremely difficult because it was mounted so high on wall. The bathroom was clean. The sink you had to be very careful not to spill water on floor as it was the tiniest sink I have seen. There was nowhere to put any toiletries in bathroom. I do think once the host has completed with remodel the place will be a very nice. I would stay again knowing all I know now. Nothing to put me off.

Upper Peninsula quick trip

We went to the UP from Detroit to visit several sites. Property is located within an hour or less from Tahquamenon Falls, Sault Ste Marie locks, and ferry to Mackinaw Island. Room was well equipped and clean.

Successful first visit to The area

Driving into the property gives a definite feel of old time motel. But as soon as we walked into the room it was obvious a lot of effort has been put into updating the rooms. Liked the way it was decorated and it was mostly comfortable. My main suggestion is that the room is too small to have the TV at the ceiling. I understand the height but by moving it to the far wall you wouldn’t have to lie down or crane your neck to watch it.

A vintage motel reimagined into “The Ash | Boutique Vacation Rentals, Rooms and Suites.”

Our shared passion for business, travel and the hospitality industry prompted a plan to bring unique Vacation Rentals to Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Traveling and staying in over a 100 vacation rentals all over Europe, Asia, and North America the past 10 years has brought incredible insight on the needs and wants of our future guests.

While we wanted the building to reflect its 1950s roots, it was also important to have all the modern conveniences. To start, the door locks are managed by keypads rather than physical keys or cards. A custom code is emailed directly to our guests that is good only during their stay. They can relax, walk straight into their suite and have the ease of independent stay!

Each room is a bit different – different furniture, artwork, pillows. Neutral palettes with pops of color are featured in all the suites with natural light from each living room's picture window. Using vintage furniture of different eras making for charming and fun design elements. Opting for a super cozy and eclectic energy, you’ll find each suite to be a photo-worthy treat.

We take great pride in being part of this very special place and love finding ways to contribute to its culture, like buying Michigan art and furniture, using our local tradesmen, Michigan designers and sourced materials from our city.

We are excited to participate in local events and of course host events too. We hope to accommodate the sports team, family, explorers, adventurers, and travelers all wanting to escape and explore the beauty our waters and city has to offer!

We can’t wait for spring. Fresh exterior paint, beautiful landscaping, areas to entertain and the future restoration of the iconic pool!
