Contemporary Waterfront Apt. with a Stunning View

Situated right on the Bosporus, this contemporary penthouse apartment is immersed in spectacular sights of the city worthy of Sultans. It’s truly breathtaking to enjoy your morning coffee on a comfortable sofa while gazing at iconic monuments and the ferries cruising along. When you’re ready to head out to explore, the touristic epicenter of Taksim Square, posh streets of Nişantaşı district or the recently modernized hip Karaköy neighborhood are all awaiting to entertain you.

The building is named Samibey, built by and named after my late grandfather Dr. Zülfü Sami Özgen and served as the family’s main residence for over 30 years. This fourth-floor penthouse apartment has recently been completely stripped down, renovated and refurbished with brand new furniture and equipment for the comfort and pleasure of our guests.

The 120m2 apartment has been re–designed with a spacious living room and open kitchen setting, offering a lounge area as well as a dining area for the purpose of convenience and coziness. The doorway opens to the center of these areas. As you enter the space you find the living room and the dining area situated on your right, facing the Bosporus and the kitchen directly across. The living room area offers a dinner table, comfortable sofas (one becomes a bed) around a coffee table and a TV with cable.

The kitchen is equipped with brand new appliances such as oven, stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, coffee makers (filter and Turkish), kettle, toaster, pots and pans, plates, cutlery, utensils and basic cooking ingredients.

Two full bathrooms are located along the hallway that leads to the rear of the apartment. Both bathrooms have been modernized for guests’ hygiene and comfort.

All three bedrooms are located along this hallway. Two of the bedrooms have mesmerizing views of the Bosphorus and the other one faces the trees in the back. The master bedroom has a king bed and the other two have queen beds all with fresh linens, extra pillows and blankets for those guests that seek added comfort and warmth, as well as ample wardrobe space for heavy packers. All rooms are equipped with A/C units for those hot summer days.

A large communal garden located on the ground floor of the building is available for the pleasure of our guests along with other residents, presenting ample green grass to lie on and an assortment of trees to relax under.

Kabatas holiday

This apartment was a great home base for exploring Istanbul. The panoramic view from the apartment made walking up the four flights of stairs worthwhile. We all loved watching the boat parade.

Lovely place

We stayed in this place with kids, It is a lovely place, clean, and fully equipped with a tea & coffee maker and a washer/dryer. The location is just perfect, amazing view overlooking Dolmabahçe Palace and the Bosphorus. Easy access to public transport. Would definitely save this vrbo for our next visit to Istanbul

Great view, amazing apartment

This is the third time we have stayed in this apartment - it is one of our favourites in the world. We love the main room and the view over the Bosporus, but every room is big, clean, bright and nice. The hosts are spectacular - our flight was badly delayed, and they were happy to check us in at an unreasonable hour, even on a Sunday night. We look forward to renting again next year already.

Enjoyed stay with one exception

I would give the property 5 stars. But i am giving it only 4 stars, because of unsatisfactory Internet connection. The Interned usually worked for a few minutes and then the service dropped out and was unavailable for hours.

Magical istanbul

We loved our time in this beautiful, ancient city. And our experience was enhanced by this lovely property. Walking distance to the ferry terminal, the tram line and Galata made this charming aparythe ideal location for our visit. Emir was wonderful to work with and the property manager, Tuna was amazing. She made restaurant recommendations, coordinated airport transportation and was available by WhatsApp if we had any questions. The apartment is a clean, sun filled space with views of the Bosphorous. The pictures in the listing don’t do it justice. Well appointed kitchen, washing machine for a quick mid adventure freshen up of clothing, internet and the view!!! We hope to come back and will absolutely stay here again.

PERFECT location and the View!!

We stayed 10 days over Christmas holidays and we found the apartment and the location very good. You’re right at the end/start of the tram line to take you into the old city. You will definitely get your steps in when visiting Istanbul. We were able to cook and do some laundry but let’s face it, why cook when you can eat so we’ll for so little money? The apartment was very clean, the beds are definitely more firm than we are used to, but everything worked well. Lots of storage etc. When we did have an issue with the bathroom/hot water, Tuna was there with a solution immediately. We would recommend this property to anyone ( as long as you don’t mind stairs as it’s on the fourth floor)!!

Convenient location, great views

Building is short walk to T1 tram that goes through the old city and F1 funicular that goes up to Taksim square. The unit is exactly as described with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views. The mosque across the street sings calls to prayer to give a great feeling of place. The kitchen has plenty of cookware and dishes but only coffee, tea and oil for meal preparation. We did not cook. Street traffic is heavy and constant but the excellent windows lower the sound immensely. The garden is not very maintained but we never had time to consider relaxing there. In the neighborhood are only a few restaurants within immediate walking distance. Markets nearby supply the basics including fresh fruit. All in all a great, reasonably quiet space for our one week stay.

Not meeting our expectations

While the property benefits from an excellent location and beautiful views, unfortunately, the level of cleanliness fell far below our expectations. Upon arrival, we removed our shoes at the door as we were traveling with young children and preferred to keep the apartment shoe-free. However, the floors were noticeably dirty — they had clearly not been mopped or even swept, with visible debris throughout. Additionally, the bed linens appeared unwashed, with visible stains and an unpleasant odor. Cleanliness is a basic expectation, and in this case, it was severely lacking.

Best VRBO ever!

We've stayed in about 30 different VRBOs over the years, in multiple cities, and this was the nicest. The view from almost every room is better than any hotel in Istanbul, and you have to see it to believe it. It looks good in the pictures, but even nicer in person. The layout and furnishing and kitchen/bathrooms are all clean, modern, and attractive. Rooms were all warm enough in winter, which is lovely. The location is excellent: close to the tram, the funicular up the hill to Taksim, and many shops for food and wine. Good coffee nearby at Just Coffee and Michelin ranked Topaz is up the hill and 5 minutes walk. The only thing that might dissuade some is that it is on the fourth floor, and no elevator. Not a big deal in my view: you will do far more climbing up and down the steep streets! The hosts were lovely: both Tuna and her husband were welcoming, communicative and responsive. Nothing to do with the apartment, but at one point the water service was interrupted, and they responded right away and kept us informed of what the city was up to. If available, we'd never stay in anywhere else in Istanbul again! Although good for a family, it was also perfect for a couple and very romantic.

I had the pleasure of growing up in the mesmerizing city of İstanbul, before I went to college for a year in London and three in New York, acquiring an Environmental Studies degree from NYU. After graduation, having developed a genuine concern for the ecosystem of our planet, I was lucky enough to be able to return home and help found a Waste-to-Energy-to-Organic Fertilizer Company with my father and two brothers.

I enjoy cooking, eating and conversing with friends around good food. Although for me there is no comparison to the variety and quality of the available food options in İstanbul, one thing I missed the most about New York eating scene was Mexican cuisine. That’s why I partnered up with two friends to open, first Taco Department, our Mexican food delivery restaurant and later Bowl Department for salad and rice bowl options as healthier considerations.

I reside in the Bebek area of this beautiful city, in the same building I used to live as a kid, now with my fiancé Melis and our labrador Buddha. Apart from everything about food and eating, I enjoy the nature and try to put together camping trips whenever I get a chance. I love travelling with my fiancé, especially around the western and southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. I play basketball with my friends and I like music, particularly electronic/house/dance, but will listen to anything.

Although I’m generally a humble person, I consider myself as a great ambassador of famous Turkish hospitality. I take pleasure in being an Airbnb host and look forward to meeting new guests. I love experiencing İstanbul and try to do the best I can for my guests to be able to take pleasure in my city as much as I do.

Our building is located in Kabataş, considered as one of the prominent historic neighborhoods. It stretches along the coastline towards the historic peninsula.

As you exit the building, you find yourself facing the Bosporus on a small road. If you take a right turn and walk along this road, in about 30 min. you find yourself on the famous Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn. Around Tophane, you can now witness the emergence of the new cruise ship terminal with hotels and a selection of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Finally, when you find yourself in Eminönü, you have now entered the historic peninsula and will be surrounded among glorifying historic landmarks of the city; the Mısır Çarşısı, the Covered Bazaar, Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern the Blue Mosque, Sultan Ahmet Mosque, Çemberlitaş Hamamı and countless more.

Alternatively, if you take a left turn as you exit the building, another great 45 min. stroll along the coastline leads to the historic multicultural neighborhood of Ortaköy, which used to be a hodgepodge of civilizations. Along the way you will see the Dolmabahçe Palace, Beşiktaş district, the Çırağan Palace, Ortaköy Mosque and finally Ortaköy Square.

Taksim Square, accessible with a 15 min. walk is considered as one of the main touristic hubs of the city. İstiklal Street stretching from the Taksim Square to the Galata Tower emerged as the cultural epicenter of the early Republic era and still boasts many attractions such as the historic tram, Galatasaray Hamamı, St. Anthony of Padua Church, the famous Pera Palace Hotel along with great restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, museums, art galleries and theaters.

Nişantaşı, considered as the most Europeanized neighborhood of İstanbul, is accessible with a 25 min. walk. Nişantaşı is the city’s shopping district boasting posh malls, streets lined with shops of global brands, mainstream and boutique hotels and probably the most abundant westernized culinary options.
