3 acres of private Lake Superior beach front! Located on the North Country Trail. Muskallonge Lake located directly behind the property for great fishing or fish right from the Superior beach. Hike or kayak on the famous Two-Hearted river. Parking for RV and 2 out buildings for snowmobile, ORV and boat parking. 9 miles from Pine Stump Junction. Local kayak/boat rentals are available. Captain's Beach House located next door for extra rental space, contact us for details and pricing. We own 3 properties in a row for a total of 6 acres. @captainshideaway1. There are only 8 homes total on the private road.

The cottage was great, everything was clean and cozy. We had an Aussie and a Corgi with us. They loved it and were crazy about the beach. It had great parking and a nice deck in front and a bigger one out back. Spectacular view!I would recommend this place and hope to come again.

Our second stay here and it was fantastic. The new stairs to the lake are a great improvement. The location is Superior. Hosts have responded to visitors’ suggestions and we noticed. Comfortable and cozy cottage with lots of space for any activities, nice amenities, a great fireplace, and the best stretch of beach. We will be back.

The view of Lake Superior from the front deck is stunning. The cabin is roomy, clean, well stocked, and so very relaxing.

By far the BEST place to stay in the UP!

We absolutely loved our time here! I have been coming up to the UP for years! I have never stayed somewhere as beautiful as this home. The cleanliness, the view, and the owner's communication was phenomenal. Every amenity you could think of! This will be my go to when visiting the UP!

Family fun in early June

The cabin was excellent and exceeded our expectations! Beach was beautiful and the only sounds were the waves (and our children!).

Waterfront convenience!

Great view of Lake Superior at its finest. Home is in a great spot to make day trips out either way. Loved the area and the house was supplied with all necessities. I would love to visit again!!

Captain's Cottage

My mom and I had a wonderful time at this cottage on Lake Superior. I was happy I could bring my dog with us as well. We all enjoyed walking the beach and rock hunting. It was located near our favorite bakery which was a bonus. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and I hope to come back again!

This a beauty location. You couldn’t ask for a better home. The host was very responsive and helpful. And the cabin was very well appointed. Exactly what I was looking for when I booked. And exactly what I wanted!

It was nice

It has a beautiful view. Owners are very nice. It is on a bluff so getting to beach has stairs. Owners are making improvements as they just obtained it. I would definitely stay again.

Winter Snowmobile Trip

Review applies to winter time only (summer time rental would likely not have these issues) -- location is great (close to snowmobile trails and great snow quantity). Access to garage is good for snowmobile storage at night - but not heated. Had a few issues during the stay -- walkway to house was not shoveled when we arrived, had to clear a path to get into the house. Driveway and parking area is ok for vehicles only, but trailers over 26ft will struggle to park and turn around. TV needs to be updated - missing quite a few apps and couldn't watch sports after a long day on the trails. Internet isn't terrible, but had a few buffering issues when trying to stream TV on a iPad. Super cold temps (10F to -5F) showed limits of baseboard heating and drafts from windows, had to have a fire going every night to keep temperature up. Communication with host was good, but couldn't do much to improve items above -- fixes/upgrades would need to be addressed before another renter comes in.

Little slice of heaven!

We came up as a family (2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 3 kids ages 9months-7years) and fit great. The cabin is super cozy and had everything we needed. We had a fire in the fireplace (& on the beach) every single day! The view is unbeatable and, while you have a couple of neighbors, you have the beach to yourself! It is soooooo secluded and amazing. The kids had a blast collecting rocks and sticks. We made a little campsite on the beach and hung out next to the fire all day. Heaven. We went to pictured rocks one day which was 1.5 hours away. The nearest towns (Newberry and Grand Marais) are 30 minutes away. So we just grocery shopped and ate all of our meals in the cabin. One thing I will say is that the listing says it’s 2 bedroom which probably means 1 bedroom (with a door) and 1 loft. I misunderstood it as 2 bedrooms AND a loft, not so! However there were plenty of beds for our group to sleep! Elyse was so communicative and helpful with any questions we had! 100% would recommend and stay again. We are all talking about next summer already!

Not happy

There was no washer/dryer as advertised, the main bed was extremely uncomfortable - so much so, we only stayed 2 nights. The stairs down to the beach were not completed and the gas grill was empty of propane. The lack of washer and dryer was very disappointing, as we packed lightly, but the main problem was the bed in the main bedroom. The owner said it was new, but the quality is obviously lacking. For the price we paid for a week, a comfortable bed is a small ask to us. Very disappointing! There are many trip hazards in the cabin with throw rugs on a wood floor with no rug grippers. We had to pick them all up to avoid a fall. My husband fell and cut his arm at the deck side door where there is a poorly marked step up. Elderly people should be very aware of the hazards.

Very clean and comfortable. Host communications were great. Perfect pet accommodations. Exceptional beach for walking, rock hunting or just relaxing. Will definitely make a return visit. The whole stay was seamless.

The view was amazing. We didn’t get to see the northern lights but the sunrises and sunsets made up for it! Elyse was an excellent host.

Peaceful and relaxing!!!! Lots of stones on the beach, found a few yoopers stones bring a good uv light. Swim out past the rocks water is wonderful and sandy.

Cozy cabin

Absolutely loved this house and the location. Inside is very cozy and cute. Was a very enjoyable experience and communication was smooth with the property owner. Very helpful and responsive during our stay. Was all around a great experience and I would love to book this house again in the future.

Captain's Hideaway and Cottage are side-by side properties located on 6 acres of gorgeous, very private Lake Superior beach front. Only 8 homes total on the road. The North County Trail, which stretches from Vermont to North Dakota, runs through our beach front. 1.5 hrs from Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore. 20 mins to Grand Marais. Newberry Country Club has a beautiful 18 hole golf course. Tahquamenon falls is just 43 mi away. Take a day trip to Mackinac Island. We hope you enjoy your stay. Chris and Elyse Van Houzen
