I've been reflecting on how to address your review, particularly as I hold a deep respect for older generations, a value instilled in me from a young age. However, I must express my concerns about the way your actions seem intent on harming my business and my reputation, which I believe is unjust. Let’s go over the events step by step. You attempted to cancel your reservation just a day before your scheduled check-in for reasons you provided. VRBO informed you that this cancellation wasn't possible. When you reached out to me, I explained that I would adhere to the established policy. Unfortunately, this did not seem to satisfy you. I then sent you check-in instructions three days in advance, yet on the day of your arrival, you messaged me claiming you hadn’t received any information, despite the fact that I had sent it even before you tried to cancel it. In the text, I also discuss how the house is close to nature. And from time to time you will see leaves, lizards, frog by the outdoor furniture, and I want to highlight that we have three screened porches in the house for an enhanced experience. You mentioned your concerns about the floor, and I even shared pictures from the day before, along with a message from my cleaning crew. I then called the cleaning crew to come back to the house to clean floor and any other cleaning needs. This was on February 26. After their initial visit on February 24, which you witnessed with the text and pictures from my phone. You checked in on the evening of the 28th instead of the 27th as originally planned. The following day, I received a lengthy message from you expressing dissatisfaction, including concerns about the bed sheets, which were simply under the pillow. It seemed you didn’t look there. You also criticized the dishes, despite the fact that I personally washed them before your arrival since I had just purchased new coffee mugs and wine glasses, while my cleaning crew attended to the rest of the property. I noticed your 72-year-old husband climbing onto the truck to secure his boat. He was climbing up and down the truck. You mentioned that if he were to fall off the dock, you would consider suing me because that dock didn’t have handrails. Additionally, your husband was quite aggressive towards me, making remarks that were racially charged, simply because my last name differs from what you might expect. I asked you if you saw pictures of the lake house on the platform beforehand, so you would have an idea of what to expect upon arrival. Yet, you proceeded to tell me how I should modify my home to better accommodate your preferences. I even offered you two complimentary nights, but I believe you was reaching for money back and then your husband approached me in a threatening manner, and you even told him to go outside because of the aggressive way he was coming turns me. I remained composed throughout the experience, despite feeling deeply disrespected and humiliated by both you. I was on the verge of asking you to leave my property, but I chose to remember the values my parents instilled in me and refrained from retaliating with harsh words. It’s disheartening to think that this may reflect how your husband interacts with you at home and women in general. Your grandchildren, who I believe are young adults around 18-20 years old, were present, and when you mentioned that they couldn’t go down to the dock, I felt sadness, imagining a much younger child being restricted to go to the dock and fishing until I saw them. In hindsight, I regret not speaking up when I was subjected to bullying and verbal aggression from you and your husband. I have documented evidence, including photographs with timestamps, showing how I prepared the house for your stay. No host deserves to endure verbal abuse, bullying, or humiliation from guests due to a review, as it could jeopardize future bookings. The experience I had with this couple was incredibly challenging, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I strive to provide exceptional service to ensure my guests have a memorable and enjoyable stay.
