The Hamilton House is a charming Victorian style home built between 1898 and 1904. It has all the charm and beauty only found in late 19th and early 20th century architecture, yet with all the comfort and amenities of a new home. It is 2 stories with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. The inviting front entrance greets you with an extra wide, handcrafted stair case. The home has all the original hardwood flooring, molding, doors, windows, and unique craftsmanship only found during the early 20th century. The main floor has one bedroom, one bath, main floor laundry, spacious living family room with fireplace, very large dining room, and full size kitchen. The upper level has a full bath and 3 large bedrooms. The home has a large wrap around front porch with porch-swing, spacious back/side deck, and fire pit in the backyard. Private designated parking pad with additional parking behind the garage for three to four vehicles.

Everything was wonderful! I think the one full bath should be addressed more clearly in the property description but it still worked out just fine for our party. Host was communicative and helpful, and the kitchen appliances and dishware were invaluable for our stay. Would come back again!

It was a cute Victorian home with a lot of character. It was comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of room for our family. It was in a great location, close to the historical sites we wanted to see and there was a Walmart across the river that we could groceries at. The host responded quickly to any questions we had.

The home is in a perfect location, close to all that the area has to offer. 12 Minutes to Nauvoo, 15 minutes to Carthage, and 10 minutes to Walmart and other things you may need. Lovely home.

Beautiful Home

We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was our first time visiting the area and it was a great central location. Great communication with the owner. Plenty of space for everyone. I would stay there again.

A lovely vacation home

This home has large rooms including a big dining area that is perfect for family meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner was very responsive to our needs and acted quickly to resolve a couple of minor glitches.

Nauvoo trip

We enjoyed our stay at the Hamilton house. We were a group of 12 and we all stayed comfortably here. The location is great for where we wanted to visit. It would have been nice to have another shower since there were so many of us, but we knew going into this that there was only 1. Owners were kind and communicative.

Great stay

The hosts for this home were so amazing. They were accommodating and gave great places to see, eat, and shop. The home was clean, cozy, and very spacious. The artwork was also a favorite of the family's. This will definitely be a place that we will come back to.

Great location and home

Awesome communication with the owner. Reserved 4 months in advance and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Well appointed and kept for an old home. I'm a great location for visiting Nauvoo and the Tri-State area.

Nauvoo Vacation

This house was in the perfect location for us to enjoy all that Nauvoo and the surrounding area has to offer. The owner was so nice and gave great suggestions on things to do and places to eat. The house was very clean and i absolutely loved the decor! I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Hamilton/Nauvoo area.

Beautiful & comfortable Victorian house

Spacious and lovely

We met with my sister's family and this gave us a big place to be together in a lovely, spacious environment with air conditioning, a big community table, big couches, and comfy beds!

Home away from home.

We loved this place. It was comfortable and felt like home away from home. We loved the porch swing thr dining room had a huge table, great for meals with family and playing games. The family room was comfortable. The only complaints that I had was the fridge was dirty and there were not alot of extra plugs in some of the bedrooms.

Cute Authentic House

Good location between Nauvoo, Keokuk, and Carthage. Plenty of room. Only 1 shower. Owner was quick to respond and help with any needs. Great price.

Beautiful home close to Nauvoo

We loved our stay in this beautiful home. The drive to Nauvoo is along the river and takes about 20 minutes. The only shower is upstairs, but the handrail is sturdy, so it worked fine for grandma. We loved the little extra touches, like games in the closet, a crockpot, and plenty of dishes. Communication with the host was excellent. I highly recommend this home.

Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood

Our stay at the Hamilton House was wonderful! It was so nice to be able to go see extended family at a big location, and then come back to this quiet comfortable home to relax and get rejuvenated without having to listen to hoards of children running up and down hallways. It was close to Walmart and other conveniences. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable (my tall boys all slept comfortably and were glad that all of the beds were bigger than twin sized. If we had any issues, our hosts were always very fast to respond. They even checked in to see if we needed anything to make our stay more comfortable, and gave us ideas for good places to eat. We would definitely stay at the Hamilton house again! Highly recommend!

Great home and location

My sister in law and I stayed at this lovely home with our kids. 5 kids total, mostly teens. We were in town exploring g historic Nauvoo and Carthage. The home is about 15-20 minutes from Nauvoo with a lovely drive along the Mississippi. The house is only 15 minutes from the historic Carthage jail. It’s also a quick drive to Walmart in Keokuk. The kitchen is roomy with lots of storage. The beds/mattresses are high quality. The dining area is roomy for a big group. There is ONLY ONE tub/shower. This was okay for the 7 of us. Could be an issue for a larger group. The additional half bath was definitely helpful! Just something to keep in mind. The original floors and windows add a lot of charm. Definitely would book again!

Great experience at the Hamilton House

Overall we had a great experience staying at the Hamilton house. The house is darling and the decorations are lovely. There were enough rooms and beds for our large family. The beds were comfortable. We really liked the bench swing on the front porch, the large dining room and comfortable living room. The property manager was very helpful. We also liked how close the house was to a Nauvoo and Carthage, we were able to go back and fourth pretty quickly and with ease. There were only two things we didn’t like. We didn’t like that the highway runs right in front of the house, we were a little worried with our little ones and had to keep a close eye on them. But, as long as we watched them, they were fine. I guess most homes out there are set right along the highway or other fast roads. We also wished we could of had a little more privacy, the homes around were pretty close, but the neighbors were really nice, so it was fine.

Wonderful Hamilton/Nauvoo Stay!

Our family of 9 stayed in the Hamilton/Nauvoo area for two weeks in July/August 2023 and the Hamilton House was a wonderful home away from home! The house has lots of charm and character, and the owners have decorated it thoughtfully and beautifully to reflect the historical importance of the Nauvoo area. The house was very clean and well maintained. Our host, Garrad, was extremely helpful and responsive. Given the size of our group, I was worried that we would regularly run out of hot water for the shower, so Garrad had a tankless water heater installed before our arrival! The AC worked great--which is a must in western Illinois in the summer. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone to stretch out. The kitchen was well stocked and it was fun to gather as a family around the large kitchen table. The brand new washer and dryer were fantastic. Garrad gave us some great suggestions for exploring and enjoying the area, including historical sites, restaurants, and stores. He was always quick to respond to questions. We were grateful to be only 5-10 minutes away from the Walmart in Keokuk, Iowa for grocery shopping. We loved our time at the Hamilton House and highly recommend it! Our group consisted of two families with children ranging in age from 16 to almost 18 months.There is a stair case at both ends of the house, connecting to the upstairs. Upstairs the hallway has a set of stairs on both ends (really cool, but a bit of a challenge with a toddler who loves to roam.) It didn't look like the stairs, up or down, would support a standard baby gate. The stairs connecting in the kitchen had a door, so that was nice. We did bring one standard baby gate with us but weren't able to use it because of the way the stairs are.The floorboards upstairs were very creaky as well. With a house of this age, it isn't unexpected, but it was commented on many times by multiple people.The dining room is WAY bigger than it appears and the tables separate for smaller dining, plus the kitchen has a small island and 4 bar stools for a more cozy eating atmosphere. It was all great for meals, playing games, etc.There is a shared driveway with the neighbor, but off-driveway parking comfortable for a couple vehicles. It was raining during our visit so we didn't explore it much, but it didn't seem like there was much of a yard to play in.Overall, we would definitely consider staying again. Check in/check out was very easy. The hosts were very responsive. It's a good house for families - enough space to spread out, but also enough space to gather. It was clean but also has a lived-in vibe, so we didn't feel on edge that something would get damaged.
