Charismatic 4-bedroom home on the New River

The Big House is located in the New River Gorge National Park, the newest national park. There is access to Sandstone Landing's patio alongside the New River. It is a fully furnished home with outdoor seating, a fire pit, and a beautiful view of the river. It is a great starting point for exploring all the beautiful sites and attractions that southern West Virginia and the New River Gorge have to offer.
To get to the home, you will go across railroad tracks, we are near the railroad tracks. It is in a small, friendly neighborhood. You can walk to Sandstone General Store and Eatery to get any necessities you may have forgotten for your trip or get a meal.
If you plan to fish, there is also a bait and tackle store. Be sure to have a WV fishing license to be able to fish, though. The sandstone boat launch is within walking distance of the house.
An extra that we provide our guests is access to the Sandstone Landings patio on the river, this is a shared space with our Sandstone Landings guests. It is just a short walk from the home. The upper level of the patio is equipped with a dining table and chairs. Lower level of patio has outdoor furniture to enjoy the river view or to sit in while you fish in the New River.

The kitchen was full equipped for us to cook breakfast and dinners with. Had everything we needed. A great spice selection. The gas station has pretty much everything we may have forgot. Plenty of room for everyone. Communication witb host was great. Check in was smooth

Beautiful home with access to the stream. Woke up to beautiful foggy views on the river. Was super convinient to have a store right next doorKitchen was perfectly stocked. Crystal and team put some beautiful personal touches to make this visit even more special. Access to diffferent areas of new river gorge was very convinient . We also spent an evening in Hinton to enjoy the raildays

5 stars – A Perfect Stay at The Big HouseWe had a wonderful stay at “The Big House”! The home was even better than the photos—spacious, clean, and very comfortable for our group of six. Communication with the host was excellent, and the check-out instructions were clear and easy to follow. The kitchen had a good selection of cookware, which made meal prep convenient. One of the highlights was the stunning view of the river—we even spotted two river otters playing in the evening! If we’re ever back in the area, we would absolutely stay here again.

Great attention to detail with every creature comfort. There were even fresh baked cookies upon arrival! An absolutely beautiful remote location! The General Store is an added bonus, with very helpful and friendly staff.

Good location, very spacious and clean, old home with many amenities. We especially loved the large kitchen and grill. River access is in walking distance and it's easy to drive to various sights in the New River gorge from the home's location. The general store next door has great breakfast and essentials you may have forgotten to bring. The home is on the rail line so bring earplugs!

The BIG house is indeed spacious and was extremely clean! We enjoyed grilling and sitting out on the upper and lower deck/patio. The river view is calm and serene! Although the owners are very transparent about the train noise (…it was indeed loud and numerous!), I wish there was more transparency with the proximity to the General Store, which includes a gas station. The lot is one and the same—with reserved spaces for guests closest to the house. That being said, the communication with the owners and cleanliness was the best we’ve experienced with VRBO, and we enjoyed our stay in WV!

Family vacation

This is such a cute house. Very clean and the owners do a lot to make you feel welcome. From cookies to dog treats! My adult family of 8 stayed here with plenty of room and towels! Which always seems to be a problem at other places lol Daughters dog loved the fenced in yard.

Family reset

The house is perfect and the space is completely immaculate. To be clear the front porch faces what looks like a gas station but actually is a country store ran by the nicest family. The right side of the house offers gorgeous river views. We were comfortable we absolutely loved our time down by the river. We had a fire we went fishing. It’s one of the best family trips we’ve taken.

River trip

The house is great, comfortable & big enough for a family or group of friends. It was clean had the essentials & good towels & linens. The shared patio area on the river is nice, you can't beat that view. The check in was easy, communication was fast & very helpful. They gave us a warm welcome & even made cookies for us. It is very close to the sandstone falls area & Hinton. We found a place close by to rent kayaks & had a great time on the New River!

This house is a gem!

We lived our stay here!! The house was absolutely spotless (cleanest place I’ve ever stayed in) and loaded with charm! It was very comfortable and well-appointed. We especially loved the sitting area by the river. The location is close to Hinton for any of your creature comfort needs and close to Sandstone Falls. It is a ways from the bridge and those surrounding attractions but it was an easy 30-40 min drive there. The only minor issue was the nearness to the train, which was loud at times (of course!) but even that had its own sort of charm and fit with the whole experience. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to explore the area!!

The home was beautiful and extremely well stocked. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious the living room area dining room and kitchen also very spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and any utensils you would need. I will absolutely rent here again. The home was beyond clean.

Very Nice

The cookies was great, the sleep machines in the bedroom was amazing. The view of the River was beautiful and the convenience of the store made it very nice. Our Host was very friendly and had great communication with us.

Girls Getaway

My three girlfriends and I had a two night getaway at this gorgeous house. The inside of this home was so well maintained and beautiful. You can tell the host puts a lot of effort into making the renting as comfortable and home-y as possible! There is one bedroom on the bottom floor with a half bath, which was perfect for my friend who broke her leg the week before. The host was very quick about answering the numerous questions our group had, and their patience was much appreciated!The home’s location is easily accessible off the main road and a general store is about 100 feet, making it easy to pick up things you forgot. The location was great for all the hikes we managed to squeeze in during our stay. While there is a railroad directly next to the home, with some heavy sleepers or earplugs, it is truly not a problem as there are only one or two trains after dark. This was a great home, and I highly recommend it for larger groups! Next time we are around this area, we will absolutely be booking it!
