A lovely family vacation

A perfect spot for our family Close to two beaches one wide and quite big and the other tiny and calm. We were there over christmas and the beaches were full of lovely Mexican families which we enjoyed. The ocean was calm and perfect for little kids and the pool at the house was a good break form the beach. We did not take a car and did not need one.However the inernet was down and we needed to go to the next town to get cash so we got a cab. The spaces were ideal for abig family gathering

Amazing place

This was an amazing home and location. They provided all the amenities and the house is stunning. Will definitely stay again.

Great multi family vacation

Great place and location!! Each family and/or couple had their own space and privacy. Beautiful pool overlooking ocean, flowers, and avo trees!

Considero que la casa tiene ubicación excelente! La alberca está genial , los jardines y espacios inmejorables y las recámaras muy cómodas , solo la limpieza considero que es insuficiente pues son pocas horas y la Sra no alcanza a dejar nuevamente todo ordenado

This was such a beautiful property everything was very well maintained.

Check-in was really easy and the owner was very quick to respond if I had any concerns. And they were also very understanding because we had to check out late due to a road blockage. Overall a very beautiful home and cute little town.

A Perfect Retreat

This property is an ideal escape from the busyness of life. Lush landscaping and a relaxing pool provide the perfect spot to enjoy a book while sipping a margarita. The village shops and restaurants are just a short 4 minute walk away. The local food is superb and authentic Mexican. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and gracious. The home is well equipped, clean, and exceeded our expectations. We were a family of 14, including 5 children between 6 and 10. We hired the house cleaners to cook a dinner one night. Their meal was amazing and priced competitive to the local restaurants. If you are looking for Hilton Hotel luxury, Chacala is not for you. But if you seek a quiet retreat in a quaint fishing village; here is your spot. (Note: We stayed over the Christmas holiday, so the town was filled with local Mexican vacationers. This was not a problem for us, bit it was probably much busier than other times of the year.) Thanks Gregg. You have an amazing home.

Perfect for Yoga Retreat

Casa de Tortugas was just a perfect place to host my yoga retreat. The grounds and rooms exceeded expectation and the location was perfect. My students loved being able to chill at the house or easily walk around town and beach. Mary the housekeeper and cook was lovely, too.

Perfect holiday place, one of a kind.

All the observations of the other reviews are true and more, this place could not be better. The really large house is perfect for large groups and children. The house is in excellent condition, everything is clean, good layout, well equipped and organized. The kitchen has a stove!, it is not shown on the pictures and originally gave us thoughts of not renting. Convenient parking for 3 cars in the alley in front of the house. Even if I would get paid for something negative to come up with, in all honesty there is really nothing. Maybe there is no toaster? Trivial. Now I feel petty. This house you can recommend to anybody without hesitation and sight unseen. The iguanas like papaya and various fruits, even fish and if you are patient you might find their hiding places and holes where they disappear in. You can place the food there and see it vanishing. The location is excellent, view and a few steps to a small beach, less then 5 minutes to the large bay and beach. During our stay the ocean was calm, water and beach perfectly clean. The pool is of a good size, well maintained with loungers, table and chairs all around. We did not go much into the village but there are a lot of restaurants and little stores. We had such a good time. However here is some advice: Leave the boom box at home and be considered of the neighbors with noise around the pool. We unfortunately generated complains after our stay. We feel terrible about it and that put a damper on our perfect holiday. Gregg, very sorry about that! Lesson learned!

The perfect low key family getaway

We began talking about a New Year Eve trip for our family and our friends and their children a year ago. We wanted a simple place to just spend time together and really do nothing. With our group of 4 adults and 7 children (ages 2- 10), we found the perfect place in Casa de Tortugas in Chacala. The house is a great set up for two or even three families. The views are amazing, the beach is a few steps away, and the pool is perfect for the kids to spend endless hours. We so loved the little town with restaurants right on the beach. Bonus was swimming with huge pelicans diving all around you. Truly a magical experience. Our only excursion was whale watching with Hector and we saw at least 15 very active whales! This town and home are everything if you are looking for a laid back, true Mexican getaway, and relaxation. We had one minor glitch with a tree branch taking out our power line, but the owner and electrical company were quick to respond and everything was up in running by time we returned home from dinner. Also, Yadi provided the most wonderful home cooked meals and it added so much authentic flavor to our trip. Highly recommend having her cook for you! We will return in the near future!

Relaxing, comfortable, beautiful

Our group of ten adults fit perfectly here. We had a wonderful time playing in and lounging by the pool. Dinners by Mari were delicious! We loved not having to go out at night or do our own cooking. I highly recommend this place!!!

We LOVE Casa de Tortugas

Our family stayed here for a week this past March and we LOVED it. It perfectly suited our needs and was beyond my expectations. The house is a short walk from restaurants, the main beach a small markets where you can buy basic necessities. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and we all had a great time in the pool when we weren't at the beach. We stayed in the La Familia suite. It has a very well stocked kitchen, wifi and great décor. Do yourself a favor and go to Chacala. It is a gem. And when you go, stay at Casa de Tortugas! Can't wait to go back!

Most awesome vacation yet!

We rented the Familia suite which was perfect for our family - Nana and Papa and our daughter and son and two grandchildren. Plenty of room for everyone and we had great time. The pool was clean and fun to splash around in or relax in the comfortable chairs where we could watch the kids in the pool or the birds out on the beach which was just a short walk away. We can't wait to go back.

A Slice of Shangri-La

I would selfishly like to keep this place to myself, but in the interest of promoting Casa de Tortugas and the village of Chacala, I must say that it is exceptional! The rooms are whimsical and unique. The pool and gardens are paradise. I enjoyed doing my yoga practice each morning on the rooftop palapa patio - it was breezy and the view was fantastic. I would highly recommend this out-of-the-way place. The village is tiny but the food is great and the people are friendly.

The Perfect Getaway

We spent a week at Casa de Tortugas. We loved the accommodations and loved Chacala! I can't imagine a better place to experience "true Mexico." The people of this quaint, fishing village are warm, friendly and welcoming. They invited us to participate in their parade, fiestas, and pot lucks. It was also fun meeting a few resident Americans and Canadians that offer recommendations for activities and rides to neighboring towns (there are also taxis and shuttles). The beach is beautiful and uncrowded. The ocean is warm. The restaurants are right on the beach. We enjoyed freshly caught fish every day.Hike to the top of the extinct volcano. The views are fabulous! Casa de Tortugas is lovely and romantic. The gardens surrounding the infinity pool are heavenly. We alternated between swimming in the pool and beach (just a two-minute walk away). Our suite was comfortable and the outdoor kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. From the patio outside our suite we enjoyed our morning coffee as we watched the fishermen pull into the marina with their catch. We loved sitting in the rockers on the palapa and watching the sunset over the Pacific. The staff keeps the grounds and rooms immaculate. The property manager stopped by daily to check to see if we had questions or needed anything. Casa de Tortugas is a great place to unwind. We will be back--for another romantic getaway, a family reunion or "girls trip"!

A true Gem

I almost don't want to share this house with anyone - we loved it so much - can't wait to come back!! It was all it promised and more. The view is just stunning!! The place is very well maintained and the property manager, Javier, stops by each day - mid morning - to check on everything. Chacala is as peaceful, charming village. Just watch out for the wickedly good (and very strong) Margaritas at Las Brisas!! Chac Mool has a pretty delicious Mango Margarita, too!

A Bit of Heaven

It pains me to write this, because I'd like to keep it a secret, but I feel it is only fair to the owner and to other people looking for a special experience. Eight members of my family--four kids and five adults--just got home from a week at Casa de Tortugas, and we all, to a person, agreed that it was the best vacation any off us had ever had. The casa is larger and more gorgeous than pics can convey, and we loved the little fishing village of Chacala. We wanted a taste of real Mexico and we got it, with the small town surroundings. We also wanted to relax and just unwind, and the restaurants that have sprung up along the beach in recent years as tourism has begun to develop gave us the best of both worlds. It was hard to force ourselves out beyond the pool at the house and the gorgeous beach and and local restaurants just a two-minute walk away, but we did manage to go snorkeling, and the boys went fishing. (They came home with a large bonita and a huge dorado which we grilled for dinner than night.) and we all headed to Sayulita to surf one afternoon. I would suggest that you arrange for Trini to pick you up at the P.V. Airport, rather than rent cars, as we did. She speaks excellent English and can give you a thorough orientation to the town and the tourist attractions of the larger area. There are no games at the house at this point, so if you want to play cards, Scrabble, etc., better bring them with you. Our favorite restaurant was Brisas on the beach. Loved having maid service and a property manager to take care of details that we would not know how to handle. The owner was great to work with.
