The River Cottage: 29 Main Street

The River Cottage is nestled right in the heart of the historic village of Sperryville in Rappahannock County, Virginia.This charming one story privatestructure was built in the early 1900's - owned by John Kiger. The building, now on the National Register of Historic Places, was originally a blacksmith shop. Conestoga wagons were made behind 29 Main Street along the Thornton River. It has been renovated into an quaint open one bedroomsuite with private bathand is superblyappointed for guests to enjoy!

Guests can make the most of private backyard anddeck overlooking the Thornton River. Includes all basic necessities including bathrobes and free toiletries, hasa private bathroom,fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave,bed linens,towels, free Wifi, free private parking,ac/heat,andoutdoor shower. Before & After coffee shop/cafe right next door!

This property is adorable! Clean and well-maintained, it had everything we needed and the location was great. We only stayed 1 night, but would have gladly stayed longer and will go back!

Great spot in the heart of Sperryville. Perfect for a long weekend getaway from DC, or to just enjoy Shenandoah.

Exceptional & Outstanding

In every regard, and by any measure, our stay in the River Cottage was pleasant and full of comfort. The close proximity of this property's location to both rural paradise and urban life is enviable. We hope to return to discover more nearby towns and forest paths.

Great cottage in a great location

This is a perfect place to stay to be right in historic Sperryville— next door to a great coffee shop and walking distance to multiple options for dinner or drinks. Cottage is compact but very comfortable. Nice outdoor space— shaded table with a ceiling fan and then beyond that (which isn’t quite clear from the pictures) is the deck overlooking the stream. Host very responsive.

Great place to stay

This is a cozy, clean, and comfortable place to stay. It has everything you need for a getaway. In addition the hosts are great at communicating with you, so you have nothing to worry about during your stay.

Fantastic Time!

We enjoyed our stay in Sperryville very much! The house is adorable, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The location of the house could not be better! We walked everywhere and enjoyed time at Bar Francis, The Corner Store, The Black Twig, and Before and After Coffee. Additionally, the house is a 5 minutes drive to a park entrance where we enjoyed an amazing hike to Mary's Rock in Shenandoah. Amazing place, amazing time!

Great place!

Loved the history of the building and beautiful cozy renovation. My wife and I enjoyed grabbing drinks nextdoor in the morning and enjoying them on the river!

Wonderful Overnight Stay

The Cottage was a perfect getaway. We had an incredible dinner at the Three Blacksmiths and then walked the short distance to the cottage for our overnight stay.

Weekend Day-cation

Great getaway in the middle of Sperryville. The house, despite historically being a blacksmith, is renovated with modern amenities. It was perfectly sized for what we were looking for.

Great stay in heart of Sperryville

Perfect location next door to cafe, galleries, restaurant, Thornton River - easy walk to everything Sperryville has to offer. Very comfortable, spacious, and tastefully decorated room right on Main Street. National Historic Register property. A great place to spend a weekend!

Beautiful Property

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Sperryville. This property is located within walking distance (2 min) to markets and restaurants and was about a 9 minute drive to The Inn at Little Washington. Skip the cottages at Little Washington and stay here for your next visit.

Cute Cottage in Perfect Location

We needed a place to stay overnight after going to dinner at Inn at Little Washington. This place was the cutest and right in Sperryville so we could take a stroll to the cafes and shops. There is a nice grass backyard with seating and right next to the river. I wish we could have stayed longer and would love to come and stay again.

Great Little Place Close to everything

Charming cottage

We spent one night in the cottage and it was very charming. The host seems to care a lot about the guests' experience -- offering bathrobes and a Brita pitcher full of water in the fridge. The only thing that doesn't make it excellent in our books is that the bathroom is too small. I had to use the kitchen sink to wash my face so I don't get water all over the floor. Also, the AC couldn't get the temperature down to the 72 setting that we wanted, so it was a bit too warm to sleep.

Sperryville stay

The river cottage was perfect for a couple’s weekend get away! I’ve always enjoyed Sperryville, but staying in the downtown made me love it even more! The cottage is right next door to a coffee shop and at the beginning of a trail that takes you along the river to all the sights. Very comfortable and clean. Will stay again!

Great Stay - cozy and quiet

Anniversary Trip

My wife & I stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and well stocked. It is right next store to a nice café and you can easily walk to the other restaurants in town. It is also a short drive to Skyline Drive.

Peaceful Getaway

Weekend at 3 Blacksmiths and Patty'O's

This property has everything you could want for a wonderful weekend stay. It is very comfortable and well appointed. An actual 2 minute walk to the Three Blacksmiths! My only upgrade wish - a king size bed - plenty of space for one.
