Nestled in the hamlet of Staatsburg, stay in this serene former church — now a stunning two-bedroom residence. Enjoy the natural beauty of public parkland as you walk to Mills Mansion and the Hudson River. End your day with a soak in the hot tub and a look at the stars.
The Church was built in 1876 and is featured in a chapter of ‘Staatsburg: A Village Lost in Time’ by Anthony P. Musso — a wonderful read for anyone curious about the history of this special hamlet.
Enjoy a historic and memorable escape in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Consider this space your sanctuary.
The adjacent Parsonage is also available for larger groups.
GETTING HERE
Between two train stations: a 12-minute drive (Amtrak - Rhinecliff) or 20 minutes (Metro North - Poughkeepsie). The property is just under a 2-hour drive from NYC, 10 minutes to the town of Rhinebeck and 10 minutes to Hyde Park.
THE SPACE
The main living space is the former sanctuary: open, airy, and filled with beautiful amber light through the original glass-paned windows. Its acoustics are phenomenal (and we now have a baby grand piano!). A cozy corner nook with a gas fireplace and rocking chair is the perfect spot to settle in.
SLEEPING AREAS
The main bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed with a door opening onto a small front porch. The den bedroom has a writing desk, a pullout couch, and bookshelves stocked with everything from Japanese haiku and poetry to visual art books.
A NOTE ABOUT LIGHT
The original corrugated amber glass windows cast a beautiful, muted glow throughout the space — one of the Church's most distinctive features. For those who are light-sensitive, we provide eye coverings for a restful night's sleep.
OUTDOORS
The outdoor space is made for lingering — gather around the picnic table, pull up an Adirondack chair, or stretch out in the hammock. Fire up the charcoal grill for an al fresco meal, with additional tables for dining and gathering. And when the sun goes down, end your evening in the hot tub under the stars.
ENTERTAINMENT & CONNECTIVITY
Flat-screen TV with Apple TV and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout.
HEATING, COOLING & POWER
Central heating and AC throughout, plus a backup generator — so you'll always be warm and powered, even during snowstorms.
AN ENCLOSED SUN PORCH
A quiet retreat for reading or resting in the spring and summer months.
THE TRAIN
An occasional train passes through — a classic Hudson Valley soundtrack that many guests find adds to the charm.
THINGS TO DO
There are plenty of walks and hikes nearby, including Mills Mansion and a walk along the Hudson River, a short walk. Rhinebeck is a 10-minute drive, and the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies is a 15-minute drive. Bikes and paddle boards are available for use. Plenty of antique shops are nearby to peruse, and wonderful places to get a massage or have a spa day in Rhinebeck and Hyde Park. The Staatsburg Public Library and Post Office are just down the street. Other outdoor activities include nearby pickleball courts, a public golf course, and kayaking. In summer, there are free outdoor weekly events at Mills and Vanderbilt Mansions.
REST AND RENEWAL
The space is especially good for rest and healing. The main sanctuary space has a wonderful sound system and a baby-grand piano. There are yoga cushions, blankets and mats, an acupressure foot massager, plenty of books to read on the sun porch, and, of course, the hot tub. Hummingbirds, songbirds, and bunnies are frequent visitors.
THE PARSONAGE
The adjacent Parsonage is also available for rental, making the two properties ideal for larger groups who'd like to spread out while staying connected.
