1.5 hours to Belleville or Kingston, 2:15 to Ottawa

The lake has a perimeter of 49 km and averages a depth of 135 ft, with a maximum depth of 1476 ft, making it the seventh-deepest lake in Ontario, including the Great Lakes. The lake is divided into two sections: South Mazinaw and North Mazinaw, with North Mazinaw being larger and deeper.

Mazinaw Lake is encompassed by Bon Echo Provincial Park. One of the park's main attractions is the Bon Echo Rock formation, which draws rock climbers from all over the world.

The name of the lake, "Bon Echo," is derived from the Algonkian term "Mazinaabikinigan-zaaga'igan," meaning "painted-image lake," which refers to the pictographs on Bon Echo Rock, overlooking the lake. Located on the eastern side of North Mazinaw, Bon Echo Rock features over 260 native pictographs, the largest visible collection of pictographs in Canada.

A variety of fish species can be found here including smallmouth and largemouth bass, lake trout, northern pike, walleye, perch, and sunfish. Travelers from around the globe visit to take in the views of the area, especially Mazinaw Bon Echo Rock.

This area is a must for a day visit and pictures-truly breathtaking!
