The host is lovely! The house is very well maintained, kitchen well supplied and house is clean! The yard exceptionally landscaped. The house is lovingly decorated and a little home away from home. The large deck is absolutely the best! Wonderful experience all around.Two items of note for those that might care!1. Host is on-site. This ended up being an absolute lifesaver for us because she found my son's wallet on the street! So grateful!!!! 2. Trains are a few blocks away and run all day and night and do blare horns as they come through Bingen. At night, if you close up all the windows, it really dulls the sound! I did not have any problems sleeping day 2 and 3 as a result. Truly a lovely property and host!

It was not communicated with us that the host stays on site in the basement, so that made our stay a bit awkward. Some random man and his dog came into the backyard to do something for the host while my kids and I were outside, nothing was communicated to us so that was uncomfortable. It was also not communicated that the BBQ had been removed. We stayed over 4th of July and had planned to grill quite a bit. This might have been fine if we were told ahead of time so we could have planned accordingly. The air conditioning is a portable unit in the living room so the bedrooms stay quite warm. The nightly trains made it difficult to keep windows open at night, but this is normal for the area. Overall, the house was ok but the lack of communication and the surprise of learning the host stays in the house was pretty disappointing.

Thank you so much for your review and I am so sorry that your stay was disappointing. With now using instant booking and the automated acceptance, I had no chance of conveying that I stay in the garden studio below - which I have always done. This has happened with one other guest also and I am very sorry for this slip in communication. I have now amended the description to reflect this. I also apologize for the 'random man and his dog'. My yard/garden helper came by unannounced. I also did not know he was there. Regarding the grill, unfortunately there was a mishap (thank goodness not serious) - so I am in the process of procuring an electric grill. I would like to offer you a 50% discount on another 3-day visit next season; as it is important to me that you have a wonderful vacation.

Hood River adventure

Great access to the Hatch and surrounding spots. House is cute historic style and has a view of the river to check conditions. Host is welcoming.

The location of this house was perfect for us to attend a family wedding in the area. Everything was clean and the few personal touches were noticed! I had a couple questions of Denise and she was always prompt to answer! We enjoyed the deck very much!

Great stay

Very cozy and comfortable property with a beautifully landscaped backyard, with oak trees providing great shade. Denise, the owner was onsite-she was welcoming, friendly, and fun.

Nice little getaway near White Salmon and Hood River with breathtaking scenery. Our host Denise was very nice, patient, welcoming and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Option in a Small Town

The house was a great spot for us. There aren't many options in Bingen/White Salmon and this spot was perfect for getting around to see family in those towns without having to drive far. The house is warm and comfortable and had most everything we needed for a few days.

Great place!

Denise and the house was awesome, very well kept and equipped with everything you need! The place is located just minutes from the gorge event site making access to kiteboarding super easy. The town of white salmon is just minutes away as well for early morning breakfast and coffee. Would highly recommend this place, we will be back!!

There’s an active train line 0.2 miles from the house and each train is required to sound its whistle multiple times when it passes by. This can include all hours of the night. Ear plugs and white noise machines didn’t work for us in this case. We had booked this as an entire home rental--privacy was important to us traveling with two young kids. We were surprised when the owner arrived around 9 pm to spend the night. The host occupied a room in the basement, which is directly below the master bedroom. There was a guy in her part of the house at one point, and their voices were clear even from the master bedroom. So she could likely hear us as well. If we had wanted a shared house situation, we would have looked at comparable but less expensive properties on other sites. (Note the third bed listed for this property is an air mattress you can inflate.) It seems the ant problem noted in other VRBO reviews hasn't been fully addressed. Despite multiple traps, there were a number of “scout” ants in the kitchen, dining area, and bathroom sink area. The owner is friendly and checked in with us a few times during our rental period. We considered bringing up the basement occupancy, but not knowing if she had another place to stay put us in an uncomfortable position. After the first night, we decided to find another place to stay, despite the substantial additional cost.

Thank you so much for the review. The trains do go through and definitely make a sound! Other guest reviews have also mentioned the trains; as I have also in response to them. I want to sincerely apologize for not clearly communicating that I was staying in the garden studio suite (completely separate from the rest of the house) during your stay. Because I started using the automated booking system, it didn’t give me a good way to highlight that in advance; thus it wasn’t made as obvious as it should’ve been. A friend did visit for a short while on my private patio and I’m truly sorry that you heard the voices. I have now edited the proper description to clearly stated that the host may be staying on site. Regarding ants; summertime does attract sugar ants, and it is very important not to leave anything(especially anything sweet) in the open and on the counters. Having said that, fresh ‘ant hotels’ have been purchased to keep things in check. I did ask several times if everything was OK and whether you needed anything. It would have been very much appreciated if concerns had been voiced then. Even in writing would have worked just fine! As mentioned to you in an email, there were other places I could have stayed. It is Truly Important to me that my guests have an amazing time. I very much appreciate your feedback. It helps me make sure I communicate details more clearly, and well ahead of time.

Cute bungalow, lovely deck

The place was well appointed and matched the listing. Denise was a gracious host and met us at check-in. Bingen and White Salmon were great on their own with easy access to Hood River and all that had to offer. It was a great place for a vacation close to home.

Cute cabin in a great location

We stayed here for a few days and it was a great little spot on the gorge. We’re thankful for the a/c as it helped us survive the heat wave! We loved that it was so close to the Society Hotel and could visit the spa there. Only downside is the train that whistles multiple times a night, bring earplugs or keep the windows closed.

Great location at a good value

Location was prefect and I preferred the laidback towns of White Salmon/Bingen over staying in Hood River. Older home, but clean and charming. Great backyard for unwinding with a glass of wine after a full packed day. Make sure you hit up Denise for activities, restaurant ideas, and how to save on the toll bidge. Great Host!

We enjoyed our time there. Plenty of room to park our boat. The house was the same as in the pictures. There was no AC but there was lots of fans in the house and a cooler (?) in the living room. It was still too hot for me though & I'm always cold. The owner was very courteous and responded to all my messages. She was even willing to let us have a late checkout so we could fish one more day!

Good little house!

1950’s cozy house with many updates. Everything available and working as advertised. We did not cook here. We walked to many nearby restaurants in town, particularly the Ayutlense Mexican restaurant with jumbo margs! Good brunch at Carmen’s too. Nice deck with beautiful lanscaping. We were too early for the figs and apples. Easy in and out with lots of parking and no noisy neighbors. Easy access to Hood and both sides of the gorge. Definite return if we are in area again!

Quaint little home

We had a wonderful stay in this little two bedroom home. The backyard is perfect to sit out with a nice glass of wine. There is some pretty cool lantern lighting which adds to the ambiance in the evening. The location is a close walking distance to downtown for restaurants and beers. We met our host Denise and loved her! She even brought us some fapples, figs and an award winning homemade Apple Sauce she made! So delicious! Loved our stay and would stay here again.

WE HAD A SHORT RIDE TO THE 2 DOLLAR BRIDGE AND LOCAL SIGHTS.THE CABIN IS JUST ENOUGH SPACE FOR TWO.NICE AND COZY.JUST A HEADS UP CONTACT NUMBER IS OUT OF THE STATES SO USE WHATSAPP OR SIMILAR IF YOU HAVE TO CALL.UNKNOWINGLY ONE CALL COST US 15 DOLLARS.A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

Great alternative to staying in Hood River

Everything was very well taken care of and the house and backyard were all great and as advertised. Denise was an outstanding host and was very communicative. She even let my brother borrow a windsurf sail when we mentioned he didn’t bring one small enough for all the wind! The location is very convenient as well. It’s only a couple minutes from anything you could need and barely ten minutes from the Event Site on the OR side and the Hatchery on the WA side (for those visiting to chase wind). All in all, it was a great alternative to staying in Hood River itself!

Great location and enjoyable vacation home!

Stayed a week and loved this cozy, nicely furnished and well cared for home. Denise is a wonderful host (she lives in the downstairs unit) and helped suggest things to do and places to eat. The house is just a short walk to the Main Street of Bingen. White Salmon is right up the hill. Loved the deck and the sound of the trains. Very nice upgraded and well stocked kitchen. Originally from Washington State so it was really nice to be in such a central location that made it easy to explore both sides of the Columbia Gorge...Hood River and Mt. Adams areas.

Lovely Setting! Nice large deck!

Thank you for the use of your lovely vacation home. I enjoyed the comfort, privacy and especially the large deck! Lovely decor and the furnishings were very new and comfortable. Such a cute kitchen with the eat-in dining nook. The kitchen was well stocked and there are lots of fluffy towels in the bathroom. You can park and go through the kitchen door without any stairs which made it easy for my elderly parents to come by for lunch. It is an easy walk to downtown Bingen (a slight uphill walk back). Very close to some wonderful restaurants in Bingen, White Salmon, and Hood River. The description and pictures are exact. The outdoor deck was like a bonus room. Loved It!

Needs work,not a lot, but some major issues need attention. Communication lacking.

We where greeted with a clean,friendly cottage well prepared. At 1am a member of our party was stunned to find a Canadian couple staring through the lounge window! A discussion followed in which we learned that the downstairs bedroom which has internal access to the main cottage was occupied by this group for the duration of our stay.They had been advised of our presence ,we had not! which begs the point as to why at 1am they would wish to peer through the window which involves climbing onto the balcony. The bathroom door and shower door are out of alignment which means it isn"t possible to quietly close or open either. My wife awoke from a nap on the couch to find herself covered in ants, as was the kitchen bench and other parts of the cottage. Top marks for the response of the owner in taking our reservation and the welcoming touches. But we should have been informed of the fact that we were expected to share the property. The continual train whistle blasts throughout the night 5/8 blasts at each crossing finished any chance of a restful night but that is not under the owners control.

Hello! Thank you so much for your review. I am so sorry that I failed to let you know about the couple that was downstairs in my suite. I was doing friends of a friend a favour and It was very last minute. Regarding internal access from downstairs - there is a door lock latch upstairs so that there is no internal access (unless it is kept open by you). Regarding the shower: Unfortunately, I know that the shower is out of plumb. The fellow that installed it didn’t take into account that it’s an older house and did not level it accordingly. I will see if I can somehow have that 'fixed' without having to rip it out. Regarding ants: I have never had complaints about ants in the living room & I will take remedial action right away. Having said all that, I would like to reimburse you $100 for the lack of communication and your troubles . Again thank you for your feedback - it is much appreciated.

Great Garden Getaway in Gorgeous Hood River

Denise's property in Bingen was a great stop. Denise loves her home, she keeps updating it and keeps improving her beautiful yard outside. If she is staying beneath you in her garden suite, she completely and thoroughly minds her own business, and while I was there, all she was doing were improvements inside and out all day long. The beds are comfy, the space is very airy and breezy and bright and freshly painted. She has simple, lovely style and taste throughout the house. No clutter. The location is quite amazing for gorgeous gorge views and sunsets inside and out. Its set high up on a hill surrounded by a little neighborhood and a steep mountain, nice neighbors, (they all would wave,) and night time breezes. What else? There's a riverwalk a mile away along the Columbia for a quick walk, with events happening around Bingen, White Salmon (which is an adorable village very close by) and Hood River, its a truly great location to experience this amazingly beautiful area. The peeps at Uplifted Coffee hut are great and good drinks there on the way to Hood River. The Oddities shop in Bingen is a neat stop if you like weird and wonderful antiques. And watching the kitesurfers in Hood River is like a zen meditation. I love this neck of the woods, what a unique gem of an area. Also, Denise is super nice and attentive to whatever you need, and she loves her house, and that energy can be felt. (There is a passing train regularly, but its background noise, unless that noise bothers you, its not a deterrent to staying at Denise's!) Thanks again, Denise, Peace and <3, Leela

I first came to the Columbia River Gorge to Windsurf which has always been a big passion for me. I have seen Hood River grow, and develop into an amazing Community of likeminded people who enjoy nature and the great outdoors.

I love gardening and really enjoy planting flowers and being here to see them blossom. I have planted an Apple tree, Japanese Pear tree, and a fig tree (that has gifted me some wonderful figs!). As well I have also planted lavendar, rosemary, sage, irises (large purple ones that bloom in June)and many other sweet adornments.
My projects last year included remodeling the kitchen and bathroom - along with refinishing the original fir floors. You will love the warmth that this cozy home has to offer!
