Fabulous Property...Listing doesn't do it justice!

Our stay at Tropical Hideaway was amazing. We booked it after our reservation on Union Island was destroyed by Beryl and were blown away by the whole experience. Martin and Julie live on site and provide all the extra touches you don't expect with a VRBO property. They even have a "store" on the property where you can get supplies rather than having to go to town to shop. We were in Palm Cottage. It has a kitchen and fabulous balcony overlooking the bay. The views from the property are stunning in every direction. We could have just moved in. The infinity pool is spectacular and there is such a great breeze we never had to turn on the AC. We cannot say enough about the property and the hospitality. Thankfully Bequia and Tropical Hideaway were spared during hurricane Beryl. Thank you Martin and Julie, we will be back!

Exquisite luxury boutique eco-resort for couples

We loved the stunning view from Palm Cottage nestled in the mountain-side 500 feet above Admiralty Bay. Its veranda is my favorite place on Earth to work remote surrounded by sunshine, warm breezes, quiet, nature, and a view of 300 sailboats moored in the bay. Martin and Julie have perfected every detail of the property, accommodations, recommendations, hospitality, and service after 3 decades of literally building the resort from scratch. Their story is part of the attraction and we were fascinated. They connected us to locals who shared authentic Bequia culture, history, food, snorkeling spots, and a boat tour of a unique eco-community we had an interest in. They even loaned us a wonderful book on local history that we read. Their local staff were extremely friendly and helpful and appear to take pride in their island, the resort, the services provided. We walked to 4 world-class pristine beaches and 4 fabulous restaurants from the resort on nature trails and roads using a taxi most nights to return after dark. After eating a delicious breakfast at the resort the first day, we decided to eat breakfast there everyday. We got wine, snacks and extras at the on site store. The vibe at the resort and everywhere on the island was relaxed, friendly, casual, calm, and unpretentious. We always felt safe. This was a romantic third honeymoon for us and will we be back because there is so much more to see and do such as excursions to explore the other Grenadine islands.

Fabulous!!!

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Tropical Hideaway. Martin and Julie were wonderful hosts--warm and friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful in every possible way. The property is even more beautiful than the pictures. Palm Cottage where we stayed was immaculate, very comfortable, and had everything we needed. The views were stunning, and the pool was just gorgeous--a pleasure to swim in and watch the sun set over the bay. Bequia is a relaxed, friendly, and unspoiled Caribbean island, which we loved. One of our best vacations ever. We will be returning!!

Simply amazing

Julie and Martin certainly know how to make you feel welcome! As one of the guests said if James Bond was to do self catering he would do it here! Stunning property and lovely accomodating staff. A must for the discerning holiday maker.

The Absolute Best In The Caribbean

My wife and I have been regular guests at Tropical Hideaway since 2013. Bequia is by far and away our favorite Caribbean island. And Tropical Hideaway is the absolute best value for our money we have ever found in our extensive Caribbean travel. We go back again and again simply because the owners, Martin and Jule, set the bar so high we know we would be disappointed if we went anywhere else. For us, the real beauty of Bequia is that very few outside the yachting community have ever heard of it. It is a small island that is somewhat difficult to get to for land crabs like us, which effectively eliminates the hordes of tourists who regularly deplane in St. Lucia and Barbados. Those are your two main gateways. To get to Bequia, you have to take SVG Air from those two islands. And for couples like ourselves, that adds another $1,000 to the total trip cost. But the cost is beyond well worth it! Bequia has no casinos, no large hotel chains, no zip lines, no jet skis, no rowdy nightlife, no corporate junk food chains...in essence it is the Caribbean as it was 30-50 years ago. You can take sailing day trips, you can scuba dive, you can snorkel...basically you can have a "real" Caribbean experience and meet local people who are genuinely glad to have you there. The small shops and local bars/restaurants are very inviting and friendly. As for Tropical Hideaway, it is breathtakingly beautiful. Basically a small luxury boutique hotel (without the usual $1,000+ a night charge), the landscaping is lush and vibrant with color. It sits atop Bequia Estates with wonderful views of Port Elizabeth and Princess Margret Beach below. And the infinity pool is THE finest we have ever found in all our years of Caribbean travel. Relaxing with a few of Martin's rum punches (the best on the island) and just enjoying the view from the edge of the pool can and does (for us) consume a large portion of our stays. We've stayed in the Penthouse, the Pool House, and this time we spent part of our stay in the lovely Palm Cottage. Hibiscus Cottage in down the hill below the pool and is the most private. It is basically a duplicate of Palm. We prefer to be close to the pool and eliminate the walk down and up. But lots of people we've met there prefer the added privacy. Everything...from the island, to Tropical Hideaway, to the owners are just beyond fabulous. If you go, you will hate leaving. And you will long to return. This we promise you.

Simply Perfect

Wow! What an incredible place! We had the most magical, relaxing, incredible time. Martin and Julie are excellent hosts and treated us like family. The Palm Cottage was private and spacious with excellent views and just a short walk from the pool. I would highly recommend staying there. The pool is the best one I've ever been in. Every night we watched the sunset from the pool. There is something so relaxing and peaceful about being there. You leave feeling refreshed. If you have the chance to stay here, don't hesitate to do so. You'll love it!

Fabulous tropical holiday

Outstanding in every detail. The property has a brilliant position, overlooking the harbour and catching the gentle winds. The sunsets over the infinity pool were amazing. Palm Cottage was brilliant for the two of us, with its own private terrace with views over a diffent aspect of the harbour. Would recommend without hesitation and we will most certainly return. For people thinking about booking their website is amazingly comprehensive and is very accurate and helpful.

Palm Cottage is perfect

Tropical Hideaway is the perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries. Bequia is uncommercialised with a good selection of sensibly priced restaurants. The views from Palm Cottage are sensational and Princess Margaret beach is excellent for swimming and snorkelling.

Truly an amazing experience

From the moment we thought about booking our stay at Tropical Hideaway to the second we left Tropical hideaway we have nothing but great things to say. Julie and Martin made sure ,without a shadow of a doubt , we had the best vacation and best experiences from start to finish. The accommodations were perfect! They made sure your happiness and comfort were all thought about. We stayed in the palm cottage. It was perfectly clean. Our fridge was stocked with everything to start us off. We wanted for nothing. We had towels and food and coffee and beverages ready to go. We were greated at the door to Tropical hideaway with big smiles from Martin and Julie with Martin holding a tray of his fabulous rum punch! They took the time to show us our room and they let us know where everything was. We spent our week with 3 other couples we knew and we all just relaxed for the first time in years! We never ever wanted to leave the pool! Martin and Julie had a phone in the pool bar with menus so you can order food. Their store was packed with food and drinks and all we had to do was walk up the steps to get what we wanted. When we wanted to take a boat trip they helped arrange everything. They got us in contact with the nicest and best taxi driver I have ever met and he helped us the whole trip! He was amazing!! They helped arrange for Elfic the singing chef to come and cook for us. Julie and Martin joined us for dinner and music. It was a magical evening that I will never forget! We ate and drank some of Martins rum punch and Julie and Martin made us dessert! Elfic sang the sun down and with the amazing views from Tropical Hideaway. I honestly cannot say enough about how wonderful Tropical Hideaway and Julie and Martin are! I do not have 1 single negative comment to say about our 6 nights there except that i wish I could have stayed longer.

Incredible Property!

My wife and I discovered Bequia on VRBO/HomeAway when we saw a banner ad showing the beautiful infinity pool at Tropical Hideaway. After doing some research we decided to visit and stay in the Palm Cottage at Tropical Hideaway because of the privacy and beautiful harbor views... and are we glad we did! Tropical Hideaway is truly a hidden gem and Bequia is the Caribbean of 50 years ago. Non-commercial and uncrowded we found a tropical island paradise with a relaxed pace of life one could come to get used to... island time! Our hosts Martin and Julie (who spent 10 years building this incredible place) provided an "over-the-top" experience for us. Photos don’t even begin to capture how magical this property is. They are completely committed to serving their guests, having thought of every creature comfort we needed from food and beverages upon arrival after a long day of travel, to providing us with pool and beach towels, full-size shampoo and conditioner, and elegant silk robes in the closet for us to use. They were always available for a chat and happy to provide advice on places to go and things to do. Tropical Hideaway also has a convenient onsite store that provides an extensive meat/fish/seafood selection, dry goods, wine and spirits… all at local market prices. You can even buy a bottle of Martin’s delicious Rum Punch! We spent a week on the island and have only just begun our discovery. We will definitely be back and will certainly stay at Tropical Hideaway on our next visit. Thank you Martin and Julie for your hospitality and creating such awesome memories for us! It was beyond expectations!

We stayed there for a week for our 25th wedding anniversary after finding the property online. We were seeking a small, out of the way island, with beautiful mountainside ocean views, non-commercialized (like the way the Caribbean used to be!), and a small charming property that was very private. Tropical Hideaway did not disappoint! The location, photos on their website and the family story sold us. The property is quite extraordinary with stunning views! The buildings are architecturally beautiful, with great attention to details, immaculate tropical grounds, highly maintained, excellent amenities, and probably the best infinity pool on the island (mind blowing actually!). Fabulous sunset watching! The Palm Cottage was perfect in every way: private, quiet, first class island-style octagonal cottage, nice detailed finishes, roomy, nice small kitchen, fabulous window wall to the view (with screens), beautiful high wood-finished ceiling!, nice bathroom, good air conditioning unit for sleeping if needed, and amazing views of the harbor. The large covered balcony is perfect for relaxing and where we had breakfast every morning! You could sit there for hours enjoying the lush landscaping, hummingbirds, rainbows in the sky and sailboat watching. The kitchen had everything we needed - including a great view & sliding door access to the balcony. The large infinity edge pool is only a short walk away (100+ feet), but Palm Cottage still has it's own private views. If you wish to cook on the grill, you'll never find a better view to cook by! The owners are very accommodating, make you feel welcome and right at home. It is wonderful to stay where they go out of their way to make you comfortable! We highly recommend staying in the Palm Cottage and would absolutely like to return in the future! Some places we enjoyed: Princess Margaret Beach, the Belmont Walk along the harbor waterfront is fabulous - don't see this on other islands, Gingerbread Café, Sugar Reef Restaurant, Papa's Bar & Grill in Port Elizabeth, Bequia Beach Hotel for cocktails & dining, Jack's on the Beach, FireFly restaurant, Step-Down Bar for local ambiance and fresh caught lobster, meeting the friendly locals, driving around the island with gorgeous views every turn!

Spectacular

Having travelled to Bequia annually for the last 20 years I thought I'd found some of the most gorgeous properties on the island already, but nothing prepares one for the spectacular views to be found from Tropical Hideaway's unmatched hillside location on the rather exclusive Bequia Estate. Palm Cottage stands alone to the side of the main house within lush tropical planting so is totally private while still enjoying the same outlook. The self-contained unit comprised of an extremely comfortable large double bed, ample hanging space, a sitting area & small but fully stocked kitchenette (including coffee, tea & fresh milk in the fridge), & an immaculate shower room (stocked with full sized shower products).. The movie choice on the ultra modern TV was beyond compare but with the natural beauty to be seen from the lovely balcony, it was completely irrelevant. The pool... Wow! Huge, infinity edged, glorious, with a swim up bar & coral stone terrace. Must be the best by far on the island. The hosts, Martin & Julie, couldn't have been more charming or helpful & while available if necessary to help book taxis or tables for dinner, were not a constant hovering presence as is often the case with room rentals. As is probably obvious by now, I can't recommend this fantastic property highly enough

Tropical Hideway Bequia - Palm Cottage

Another great stay at Tropical Hideaway Palm Cottage. This was our second stay at Palm Cottage and I cannot say enough about the place. It is more than a 5 star facility. We are always treated like family by everyone at the facility. When we arrived we were greeted by Julie and Martin with welcome home. Even the helpers were there to greet us with the same warm message. We returned to meet up with 3 other couples we meet there last year which we all became good friends. We introduced a new couple this year and they are planning on returning next year as well. The place is kept very well and when we arrived we had a nice surprise in the fridge with all the essentials to cook breakfast the next morning and also had a bowl fresh fruit and vegetables for the next day. We had many laughs and good times in the pool which is amazing and Julie and Martin would join in with us on some of our activities which was so nice. They are very helpful and knowledgeable regarding the island. Another great feature at Tropical Hideaway is Julie and Martin had food and drinks that may be purchased at the site. This was another really great touch as some days we just stayed at the pool and got our fish or sausages which were amazing and just did a barbeque. Tropical Hideaway is a true gem. I cannot say enough about the staff the hosts and the facility. If I could rate it higher than a 5, I would. We were sad when we had to leave. But hope to return again . Better than expectations

I really cannot say enough about our stay at the Tropical Hideaway. From the moment Julie picked us up a the airport to the moment Martin dropped us off everything was better than our expectations. Martin and Julie are absolutely delightful and warm, and really helped us enjoy our time on Bequia. The room was fantastic, and all of our needs had been anticipated. Our unit was stocked with a supply of food and beverages, and there was a vase of flowers. Staff was also helpful and respectful. But, the best part for us was getting visited by the owner's three Bengal cats! They visited us at the pool (an amazing pool!) and came to see us in our room! Very sweet to have charming pets while on vacation. :) And, Martin's rum punch is a winner, which he shared freely! Thank you for a perfect vacation! We recommend the Tropical Hideaway without hesitation and we plan to visit again!

The Perfect Gem

The setting on the side of the hill and the views at Tropical Hideaway are sublime. This was our second visit staying in Hibiscus Cottage in 2013 where the accommodation was perfect. This time we spent part of our stay in Palm Cottage which has a similar layout to Hibiscus with excellent facilities and for the remainder of our stay we were very fortunate to spend it in The Penthouse Suite. The Penthouse is very spacious and has luxurious furnishings and a bed that must be 7 feet by 9 feet wide. There are plenty of areas outside and inside to sit and read and there is the added benefit of the gym for those who want too lose a few pounds. The icing on the cake are Julie and Martin who are always available to answer your questions and usually provide a Rum punch get together on the veranda overlooking the pool. Everyone who was there during our stay booked for 2015. If you are fit and don’t mind a challenging walk then this is the place for you, of course you can always get a taxi from Port Elizabeth for a very reasonable rate.

Our visit to Tropical Hideaway was utterly magical

Although I was prepared for a pleasant stay in Bequia - how could it not be pleasant in the Caribbean - I was overwhelmed by the extraordinary site of Tropical Hideaway, the thoughtful amenities provided in each of the suites, and most of all, the impact of our hosts on our visit. Our surroundings were meticulously clean and tidy. Any questions were promptly answered. There was a full fridge in our room with wine and beer and soft drinks, cheese, bread, fruit, etc. upon our arrival. After a long flight, we were able to throw on our bathing suits and swim in the beautiful pool. Every Saturday our hosts, Julie and Martin, gather their guests for h'ors d'oeuvres and superior rum punch. Wonderful friendships began over those rum punches. I would like to add that my then fiancé and I decided to get married on the beach during our visit. Julie and Martin surprised us with flowers, a bottle of French champagne and an enormous card. They don't go the extra yard for their guests, they go the extra mile. I am a rather critical person and tend to always find a fault with my surroundings. However, I was unable to do so. Oh yes, maybe the bakery goods we were able to order through Julie had too many calories, because they were so good, I ate too many. My husband and I will return as often as possible.

Tropical Hideaway - Absolutely Amazing!

The overall experience was amazing from the start to finish. We was collected from the airport and once we arrived at the Tropical Hideaway we met Martin and Julia who were so friendly and welcoming, they gave us a tour of the property and went above and beyond with their hospitality to welcome us, the second week we met martin and Julie's daughter Corrie who was also so friendly, kind and helpful. The pool house was a beautifully spacious 2 double bed apartment the 2nd bedroom is on the mezzanine level, the apartment has huge open plan kitchen, very large bathroom (great shower), also has two balconies facing opposite sides of the property with spectacular views. The Infinity pool is out of this world, Truly stunning day and night through the two weeks many hours/day were spent there. We enjoyed nights in ordered fresh local tuna straight from the fishermen and whacked on BBQ. Also Corrie arranged for us to hire the singing chef who came to the tropical hideaway to cook and entertain one evening which i would definately recommend to anyone visiting- it was a great night with very tasty food. The location of the property is perfect as your close enough to get down to town but also still secluded enough to have complete privacy and quietness. many days we took a stroll down for lunch, dinner, daytime drinks chilling on the sea front even some late night drinks at some of the rum shacks. I would definately like to visit again. Having to leave was truly one of the hardest thing I've done. I'd recommend it to everyone as it is suitable for all ages, couples and families.
