We hand-built the Sparrows Nest specifically to be a vacation getaway property, thinking of everything we can to make your visit memorable. Large bathrooms and bedrooms, luxurious knotty pine living and dining rooms, with our spacious kitchen, hand-made shelves and stainless appliances will greet you. Had more than one would need! Such nice kitcen and dinnerware. Snacks, waters, stocked coffee options and a nice surprise treat left for us. Bedding was so soft. Literally the best hosts and place we have stayed at and we have been all over the country! We can't say enough good things!

A plus as always

We love the Sparrows Nest and keep coming back because the place is awesome and the host is super. I can't say enough great thing about both. Enjoyed it so much. Squirrels and local wildlife will pay you a visit and hang out with you. Good fun.

Girls Weekend 2025

This was the best VRBO rental we have experienced. The space is even nicer than the pictures portray. The hosts left us wanting for nothing. The attention to detail was impeccable, with lots of small treats and surprises that made us feel so special. We had unexpected entertainment by the wildlife visiting the birdfeeders that left us both amused and in awe of nature. We 110% recommend and hope to visit again. Thank you Karen and JD!

2 day stop over

We stayed at the Sparrows Nest as a stop over point for a longer trip. This is by far the best VRBO experience we've had. The house was beautiful, set amongst trees so we could bird watch from the living room. The amenities in the house were on par with a 4 star hotel as well. We couldnt have been happier.

Weekend away for Mountain Stage Concert

We had a fantastic stay at your property. My wife, son, and dog enjoyed sitting on the expansive deck listening and viewing a variety of birds visiting the bird feeder and nearby trees. The kitchen was well stocked and allowed us to cook all of our meals with ease. The layout of the property is well designed giving us more than enough room to enjoy family time and independence. We were in town to see a show at Mountain Stage and the location was perfect to drive in and out of Charleston. We plan to come back and book this property next time we are in the area.

Most Impressive Accommodations and Hospitality!

The Sparrows Next was absolutely the most wonderful stay. The hospitality is unmatched to any accommodations that I have ever stayed. From the welcome bottle of wine, to snacks and treats, to all toiletries provided! They really outdid themselves thinking of everything to make a stay welcoming and relaxing. The home was very clean, the linens luxurious, and the design features are something to consider in your own home. Well done! We will be back to stay again!

Even better than the listing!

My husband, 14-month-old, dog, and parents all stayed here 1 night for a concert. We LOVED our stay and were so impressed with the cleanliness, gifts, safety factors for our toddler and dog, and the view! Not to mention, the restaurants the listing recommended were fantastic! We really loved Barone's Pizza and Harding's!

Unmatched Hospitality

My stay at The Sparrow's Nest was absolutely lovey. The property was impeccably clean and filled with thoughtful amenities that made our experience truly enjoyable. Traveling with my three kids, two dogs, and a cat, I found the location to be perfect for our furry friends. The host's attention to detail was exceptional, with charming notes and thoughtful touches throughout the home. This was a rare instance where a host anticipated our every need, providing a level of hospitality that far exceeded my expectations for a VRBO. Highly recommend!

Sparrow's Nest Christmas Stay

My family and I stayed for 4 days/3 nights. Sparrows Nest was an awesome stay for our family. Very quiet and clean home. Owners provided a well stocked home for the stay and we were very pleased. We shared this place with our extended family to host our 2024 Christmas party. Owners were very friendly and responded to all questions we had. We will be booking for future stays in Charleston WV.

JD Gandee grew up in Clendenin, about 18 miles away from the Sparrows Nest. After living in several different states, he came home with wife Karen. Karen Gandee spent most of her life in Southern Florida. The first time she visited Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia, she was in love (not only with her husband)! We have now lived in WV since 2012. It is our forever home. We built the Sparrows Nest near our home for two basic reasons: One is so that our children and their families, who live in MD, can come and visit the grandparents whenever they want to, and they have a wonderful, roomy, comfortable place to stay. Second is our desire to share the beautiful and amazing West Virginia with as many folks as possible. We are proud of our state. It truly is Almost Heaven.

The neighborhood is quiet. The Nest is at the end of the street, so there is no through traffic at all. The view is really great from the huge deck. There has been no crime reported on Credemont, the hill here, for anyone's remembrance. It's a great place to live, and a great place to come and relax. Relax around the fire pit (we supply the wood and kindling), and roast a hot dog or make some S'mores. Bring your dog and take a leisurely walk or have a game of fetch in our large yard (the only true flat plat on the entire hill).

There are several reasons to stay at the Sparrows Nest. First, you have great hosts who have never hosted before, but are very eager to please! We have custom built this beautiful home with you in mind. The rooms are spacious, not cramped. The towels, bedding, and toilet paper are soft. You will dig your toes into the amazing bathroom rugs. I (JD) built much of the Sparrows Nest with my own two hands, and Karen did all of the designing from paint colors to rugs, dishes, and placement of furniture. You will feel this when you recline in the leather sofa, throw a blanket over you, and doze off to the huge Smart TV. You will see the sun stream through the trees and into each room. Sunrises and Sunsets are equally striking on opposite hillsides. Relax, rest, and recharge. The nest is a wonderful place to roost. Welcome.
