Charming, cheerful, and bright this darling cottage at The Rookery is close to the incredible white sand beach that Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan Peninsula are known for.

As you come home from days spent swimming, sunbathing and collecting sea shells, you'll be greeted by a screened-in porch where you can kick back with a cool drink in ...

...the balmy breeze. Inside, you'll find an open living space that brings together the kitchen, the six-person dining room table, and the living room with its flat screen TV'S. There is a private washer/dryer where you can leave the day's swimsuits to spin or grab a fresh one on your way over to the community's outdoor pool and hot tub.

What's nearby:
This cottage is part of The Rookery, a community that sits just north of Fort Morgan Road on the incredibly scenic Fort Morgan Peninsula. The grounds are home to an outdoor swimming pool, a hot tub, a tennis court, and a picnic area with charcoal grills(renter responsible for supplying charcoal), with a beach access point three-quarters of a mile south on Pizarro Avenue (with public parking available). The Fort Morgan State Historic Site is at the tip of the peninsula only six miles west, while the heart of Gulf Shores - home to a wide assortment of fun eateries and attractions - 15 miles east.

POOL KEYS ARE IN A BASKET ON KITCHEN COUNTER, AND MUST BE RETURNED TO BASKET. IF KEYS ARE LOST, THE FEE TO REPLACE IS $85.00 CHARGED TO THE GUEST.

NO PETS ALLOWED A FINE WILL BE LEVIED OF $500 IF PET IS ON PROPERTY. THIS IS DUE TO ALL OF THE WILD LIFE IN AREA

Our favorite place to stay is Rookery but..

First let me say we have stayed in these cottages many times. We love the Rookery properties because of the community, the pool, the proximity to the ocean. All of those things are amazing. Now the property we stayed at was ok but it was run down and very dirty. The couch arms were gross and well as the walls and many of the chairs were stained. Many things were broken. They weren’t important things so we let it go. Door knob kept falling off, sign in bathroom was on with tape and kept falling off, the door didn’t lock properly. The beds were awful. Cheap and falling apart. These cottages are not cheap to stay in, we expect things to be clean and comfortable. All of the others we have stayed no complaints. There were plenty of towels, dishes, etc. air conditioner worked great. Some decent furniture and mattresses would make this a great place to stay.

Not what I expected

Pool area was nice. Cute cottage. Nice location. Flooring and furniture was dirty. Worn out beds and furniture. Coffee maker didn't work. Missing appliances. Normally don't complain but these issues need to be addressed.

Quaint Cottage and community

We enjoyed our stay at the Rookery. The cottage is located in a small private community directly across from the pool area. The cottage was well-equipped with kitchen necessities and pool/beach toys and chairs. Parking is limited and in the afternoon, the No Seeums are pretty bad. Bring bug spray.

Nice family Getaway

It is a very secluded area with a wonderful pool and hot tub and close to the beach. If they could spray for the gnats it would help a lot. The cottage is arranged nicely for a family. We had a issue that I brought to their attention and they took care of it promptly to make our stay better. Cleaning could be a lot better according to me. Very good communication with all staff if needed something. It was a little farther from Gulf Shores area but in all Very Nice get away! Mike and Wanda

Decent place, but expected better.

The area is a good choice. Close to public beach access. Beds weren't very comfortable. The mattresses on the bunk beds were very thin, spring mattresses. My kids complained about them quite a bit. The hot water didn't last through 2 full bathing sessions. Some cookware wasn't clean when we pulled them out. We had a few roaches around the sink and dishwasher area. The vents were pretty dirty and a few cobwebs here and there. We stayed for 5 nights. When I asked if we were able to get ONE dishwasher pod, ONE trash bag, and ONE roll of toilet paper, we were denied. I didn't find it was too much to ask. The staff/manager were very nice though.

Definitely recommend!

Great stay overall. Loved the location, convenience to the pool, and the coziness of the house. Our only issue was the master BR mattress seems pretty worn out our backs were hurting every morning. Otherwise we would definitely be back! Thanks for a great vacay!

Good but disappointing

The cottage was not clean. Intake vents were filthy, roaches and some pots and pans were put away dirty. Furniture was worn out as well as pots and pans. Cookie sheets were rusted. Mattress on sofa bed was not sleepable as well as terrible mattresses on bunk beds. Rules stated no smoking anywhere on property yet people were smoking on property as well as at the pool where cigarette sniffer/disposables were provided. I have used VRBO for all my vacations and have never been unhappy until now. I would not rent here again.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was nice and the pool was great for the little kids. The house was pretty clean but we like to deep clean. The toilet needed it. We pulled out furniture to sweep and mop, found stuff like food and old juice probably from previous kids. The sliding bathroom door was off the roller so you had to pick up one end but we just didn't use it much.

Fit our large family well

My husband and I and our 7 children were very comfortable in this ciottage. The kitchen was well stocked and it was very nice to be able to prepare meals and space for us to all eat together. The beach was a short walk and very nice. The kids loved that the pool was right across the parking lot. Thank you!
