We love staying at this location, the beach is steps away from our condo, the pool is refreshing, with close by local restaurants and the activities are great!

We loved the location. Short walk to the beach. Close to the swimming pool. Would stay there again!!

Great location. Plenty of room. The property is a little dated and can use a remodeled kitchen, fresh paint, etc.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location was great. Loved having a security guard. Overall the condo was good. Needs updates and a few things fixed. The patio furniture had something to be desired. The chairs, if you want to call them that, were made of pvc piping and one was broke.

Long time El Matador Guest.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our first time in 424. We have been to el matador many times. Slight odor in unit. Kitchen not well stocked. Very few utensils. Furniture outdated. Recliner would not come down without brutal force. Bed comfortable. Shower updated which was nice.

Always great at the beach

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We always have a great experience with Alicia Hollis (nearly 25 years). The staff is friendly, helpful and always willing to make your stay comfortable. As far as the unit we stayed in, EM 424, it’s in dire need of updating but it was clean. The shower was amazing! It’s a good location being close to the pool and beach and the free beach service is a bonus. One thing to note about that unit and I was very disappointed about was...no hangers in the closet!!! At least there was some drawer space but no hangers was a first! We also were there at a very busy time during fall breaks (which we won’t do again) and had a hard time sitting on the patio a couple nights due to the strong smell of weed! It even came in through our bathroom vents a couple times. Lesson learned, We should’ve complained about the weed smell so it could be investigated as recreational is not legal in Florida. There are a lot of nicer, remodeled units in the El Matador for the same money. Still a great visit to our favorite vacation spot to relax!

Stephanie so sorry to hear about the smell, but, we do not have control of any of that. But, we are going to be updating the unit soon, and hangers, we put them in and they disappear, so i wished i knew and i would have given you some. But, will be looking forward to see you again as always.

✨Hidden Gem✨

El Matador really is a hidden gem of places to stay when searching for a place to take your family. We came as a family of 4 (Me, Husband,& 2 Kiddos). We searched from Orange Beach, Alabama all the way to Panama City Beach, Florida. If I’m being honest, I was a bit worried I could be disappointed because our condo rental was several hundred dollars cheaper($300-$500) than most other place we looked at. Plus, I do not know anyone who has ever stayed there. We took a chance and we LOVED the location. The beach was perfect! You literally park right outside your building and walk right in! If anyone goes to the beach often, then you understand parking can be a nightmare during the summer months! Not to mention you may have to walk a mile to your condo! Not here! My favorite thing about the entire trip was El Matador is the last building on the strip before it turns to miles of beach that’s off limits due to air aviation! So that means not near as many people trying to hit the beach! Not near as crowded! As for our room, it was great. We had plenty of room! It is a large one bedroom unit! It was very clean and the balcony view was wonderful. You can see the pool and ocean from the balcony. Very peaceful! The entire El Matador grounds are clean. The pool was a hit with the kids! It was also big and clean! We will certainly be returning to El Madador for future beach trips!

Both the complex and the unit are in beautiful spot right on the beach front.The unit itself was extremely outdated. Furniture at the beach can be funky, but the bed was downright uncomfortable. The only other avoidable issue was that the ice maker wasn't working our entire stay. I had to remember to run to the Tom Thumb for ice the day before so we could have ice on the beach. That seems like something that could have been checked prior to check-in.The unit was well cleaned and I'd definitely book it again, but would really like an update bed and ice maker. I can deal with funky furniture. I even find it charming.

We have been trying to update this unit, but, unfortunately we cannot the vendors to do the job fast, they are not available, or you cannot find the stuff to put in the condo. We will notify the owner about the ice-maker and get it fixed immediately, and we wished you would have let us know and i would have called the appliance guy. Large one bedroom with great views

We had an amazing time at this unit in the El Matador complex. Me and my wife came down for a week to celebrate one last trip before our first child arrives in November. The unit was clean and very spacious. However, it was lacking some of the essentials that other units we have stayed at had: hair dryer, salt/pepper, olive oil, coffee, etc. Plan ahead to stop at the grocery store. Overall we really enjoyed the unit.

great location

We loved staying at El Matador. The whole complex was clean and it was easy to walk to the beach. The pool was great and our grandchildren loved it. It was nice not to have to deal with Destin traffic!

No door to bedroom

Disappointed that the bedroom had NO door to it which was next the the bathroom where our daughter had to go through. Dishes were heavy china and not very good to use for family. Where you put trash down a trash shoot for the facility is not even big enough opening to put a trash bag down.

Relaxing and quiet

We really enjoyed staying here. The only thing I can say could be better was the condo was a little worn and needs a good update. Otherwise everything was great.

Something Smelled Fishy !

Reviewer Comments: We haves stayed at El Matador many times and this unit was less than up to our expectations . When we arrived there was a very strong smell of fish in the unit that we were unable to get rid of no matter what we tried . The decor is very outdated and reminded me more of a stuffy attorneys office instead of a beach front condo as advertised . The unit was clean and served it’s purpose as we spend majority of our week outside . During check in I was reminded that it was a “holiday weekend so be careful not to lock yourself out and that if I could wait till Tuesday after the holiday to request any maintenance “ . I would not rent this unit again .

Thanks for your review Dawn, we sure appreciate your opinion about the condo, and i will notify the owner about your comments, and, i guess the fishy smell may have been the last tenant in there cooked seafood, and sure enough it will leave a smell that you just cannot get rid off. But, i am not sure how you come about the "holiday weekend" cause we are only closed on Sunday and back to work on Monday, and we did not hear anything from you. But, thanks for your comments.

Needs Updating & Better WIFI

This unit was one of the largest one bedrooms we have ever stayed in & the view from the balcony was great. The outdoor furniture was not the best or comfortable. The unit as a whole needs updating but was clean. The bed was VERY Soft and every time you turned over the whole bed would move waking me or my husband. I like a soft bed but this was terrible. They kitchen was not stocked as well as others we have stayed in. We picked our key up at 3 o’clock ( check in time) & when we got there, the maid was not finished cleaning. It took her about another 20 minutes to finish, but I’m sure she had more than one unit to clean that morning. The WIFI (Cox) was non existent!!! I was very disappointed in this. Anyone needing it to be able to work while on vacation could not do it. Thank goodness we brought our on with us. The grounds & pool were very well kept.
