The home was lovely, accurately described, close to the beach, and had a wonderful pool. My husband, sister-in-law, son, our small Maltipoo, and I enjoyed our stay. The host was responsive and even allowed us two extra hours due to a delayed flight. I thanked her and expressed our intention to return, as we visit Florida every three months.Unfortunately, our experience changed after checkout. Despite spending our final morning cleaning and vacuuming, I received an unexpected WhatsApp message and phone call claiming we left the house a mess and demanding additional cleaning fees. Complaints included towels that supposedly smelled strange, a dirty bedcover from our dog's paws, and an unwashed waffle maker; they also submitted pictures. I acknowledged forgetting the waffle maker but strongly disputed the other accusations. We were four adults enjoying quiet family time, not hosting parties or creating excessive messes. As frequent vacation renters, we found these demands unusual and concerning.I contacted the host about the unexpected payment request and my concerns over my number being shared but received no response despite her previous responsiveness. I reported the incident to VRBO for investigation. The house itself deserves praise, but the post-checkout experience raised serious red flags. I cannot confirm this was a scam, but I strongly recommend future guests document the property's condition before leaving and question unexpected payment demands.
