Thanks Paul for the great review. It was a pleasure hosting you! BTW: There are TWO entrances to the pool, one is through the living room / open office area, which has a door that leads to the pool. It is the more 'public' pool access area for other bedroom guests so you don't have to access the master bedroom (which also looks directly out and opens onto the pool and backyard area!) It is easy to overlook that side door if you are staying in the master bedroom! So there are several doors accessing the pool area!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our place. We are so happy you liked everything. We want all our guests to feel pampered and at home with their stay.... it IS a vacation to be here at our desert jewel!

Ted and the large crew he brought was a difficult guest from the beginning. He would not answer emails or instructions for check in, he complained that he had to pay extra to heat the pool (it is clearly stated in the details) and was simply impossible to communicate with and get responses from in a timely manner. He misrepresented the number of guests he had staying at the house to try and save money and misrepresented the dog his grown kids brought. We had to pay extra for cleaning from the mess left and also the amount of hair from the dog. We have had numerous reviews on Airbnb that showed how wonderful our place is. This is our first rental on VRBO and we would never rent to him and his family again. This man simply complained about everything. The house is in a wonderful neighborhood, very safe and the house has been totally remodeled and is absolutely gorgeous. Some people are crabby and hard to please. This person falls into that category. He is the kind of guest that makes you wary of sharing this jewel of a home. It certainly sets a bad tone for allowing dogs because he and his dog left a mess.

Thanks for your feedback. Regarding the pool and heating: We keep the pool set at 84 degrees. Which is an above average for pool heat. The heater is on for 24 hours per day. The pool pump however, is only on for 10 hours a day. The heat still emits, though not as powerfully in early morning or late at night when pump is off. If you had contacted us at any time, we would have been happy to turn pump on for additional hours if you felt pool was not warm enough. I truly wish you had let us know you would have liked it on for longer time frames. We are always happy to adjust for our guests! As well, the front of the house has 8 windows and gets a huge amount of afternoon sun, so we close the drapes. For more sun and light, you simply open the drapes to the light stream in. The 3 bedroom 2 bath home WAS built in 1935 (completely renovated in 2025) and has very thick plaster adobe walls for cooling effect as was the Spanish style architecture of the day. The 100 year old olive tree in the back shades the open air lanai, however the sun on the pool area is quite ample. I suspect your displeasure revolved more around the fact that you had three additional unpaid guests for three nights and also brought a dog without communicating with us until we inquired about what was going on. It set the tone for odd communication with us from the get go and was rather uncomfortable. I get it, as you mentioned, you were wary about being honest about the dog as you thought we would not allow it and did not want to pay the additional pet or extra guest fee. However, one of the things we try hard to do is to keep our rates relatively reasonable and only charge for additional guests or pets when they are utilized. (as they incur additional cleaning for housekeeping). As I stressed at the time when we discussed, we like to be transparent and honor and communicate openly with our guests and hope they do with us as well. This did not happen with you and was very disappointing. We would not be comfortable having you stay with us again.
