The Lighthouse; an experience of a lifetime!

This truly unique lighthouse is a special place which is remote, private and surrounded by the ocean. Both sunrises and sunsets are stunning and unparalleled. Being over one kilometer from the nearest house, the night skies are incredible, truly dark skies! Beaches on both sides offer great swimming, snorkeling and diving. You can paddleboard and kayak to a vast archepelago of islands off second peninsula. Or just sit on the deck and enjoy the peaceful tranquility that this seaside house offers.

This will be an Atlantic experience like no other. Imagine, your home tonight is a lighthouse, located on a remote outcrop on the Atlantic shoreline, surf crashing nearby, lovely and secure in your house.
Walk upstairs and stare incredibly at the 360 degrees view of Mahone Bay. Walk down to the shore and put on your mask and snorkel and enjoy limitless snorkeling in pristine waters. Start a fire and enjoy the stars. This is the 5*experience of a lifetime. You will be enriched by the experience.

Property Description

The Lighthouse is 3 bedroom and loft, inactive lighthouse which was built in 1989 as a replica of the traditional 44 foot high Nova Scotian wooden lighthouse which at one time dotted the coastline of the province to keep mariners safe. The house has 4 queen sized beds and is spacious, modern and comfortable. There are incredible views in all directions with the pristine waters of Mahone Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean on both sides of the property. The Lighthouse is oriented so that guests can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from the large patio. There is ample parking for 5 vehicles. A large fireplace and unlimited firewood makes it cozy inside when the Atlantic storms rage outside. The beach is a short walk away and there is a spare mooring if you have a boat to bring on your adventure.
The towns of Lunenburg (World Heritage site) and Mahone Bay are nearby and offer lots of great tourism including Fisheries Museum, shops, artisans, local distilleries, excellent restaurants and much much more. Consider the spooky ghost tour in Lunenburg!

The Lighthouse! What can I say! Our party of 8 truly experienced a memorable stay of a lifetime. Everything from the ocean views, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, unique layout, not to mention the 5 star hospitality provided by Steve! He made sure we had everything we needed, coordinated a feed of lobsters, and was the best VRBO host we have ever experienced. We will definitely be back. Thank you Steve!

The Lighthouse really is extraordinary in every sense. It’s such a unique structure with fabulous views from every window. The main living space is filled with light and the floor to ceiling windows offer ocean views on both sides. We had the entire peninsula to explore, with just the birds, deer, and a very friendly dog for company. Steven lives on the property but his house is discretely tucked away in the trees. He was always responsive when needed but was very respectful of our privacy. The perfect host! Do be aware that what makes this place special also presents limitations for some people. There is just one ground floor bedroom. The other three rooms are up a spiral staircase and/or steep ladders. Well worth the climb (even with bags)! There are also steep drops from two of the open/loft bedrooms and from a cliff at the edge of the patio, so bear that in mind if you have little kids. Overall though, it is paradise for older children. Think Swallows and Amazons, or is that just showing my age! Would return in a heartbeat.

The lighthouse was an amazing experience that we all thoroughly enjoyed. The location, while very quiet and secluded is just minutes from Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. There is almost zero light pollution so watching the stars at night is magical. The amenities in the house were great and our host was delightful and so helpful. We look forward to staying there again soon.

Steve and Kay were absolutely wonderful hosts. Check-in was a breeze and they left us some nice welcoming touches. It was very well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, plates, glasses, all we needed for our week. Washing machine and Dryer, dishwasher, full size fridge and stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and oils, spices for cooking. Steve was very responsive to questions and had a lot of patience with me as VRBO did not initially release my down payment to him and he supported working through the challenges.The Lighthouse overall was amazing with the wrap around deck and several Adirondack chairs to watch sun rises and sunsets. Stunning property and view, surrounded by bays and Atlantic Ocean. Deck also has a hot tub, BBQ and an outdoor fire pit off to the one side..From the deck watched the seals daily, many Blue Herons, Spotted Sandpipers, Greater Yellowlegs, Belted Kingfishers several Terns and many others including various warblers. There were Osprey bringing branches to a nest on the property, The Bluenose Ii also passes by off shore when going into Mahone Bay.Approx 15-20 minute drive into Lunenburg, and close to Blue Rock, Ovens Natural Park Sea Caves and Mahone’s Bay. Approx. 1.5 hours to Peggy’s Cove with possible stops at Chester and Hubbard on the drive.Amazing property, amazing hosts and a memorable vacation. Thanks for allowing us to experience The Lighthouse Steve and Kay and thank you for your amazing hospitality! We will be back!!

Great property, incredible location!

We had a fantastic time at the lighthouse. The location is superb with great views and dark skies. We spotted lots of wildlife. The property is clean, spacious and had everything we needed on hand. We’d love to return.

We sailed all over Atlantic Canada and absolutely fell in love with Mahone Bay which is large bay with 300 islands, tons of wildlife and warm waters. The property we purchased was originally built in 1989 as a replica Nova Scotia lighthouse with commanding views of Mahone Bay and a good anchorage and we were hooked. The Lighthouse is a modern house in an amazing location, surrounded by water on all sides. The property is equally amazing with at least 150 bird species and many mammals including otters, foxes, muskrat, deer, raccoons, porcupines, squirrels, chipmunks and lots of little animals. Off shore, pay attention and you may see seals, whales, tuna porpoises and dolphins diving and fishing. You are pretty well surrounded by nature.
