HIKING:
Hikers will find well-marked trails in this beautiful hilly landscape, featuring special medieval landmarks and remnants of the Medici rule. Depending on the route, hikers can enjoy well-deserved refreshments “al bar” in the small villages and/or find opportunities to picnic along the way, usually with magnificent views. Thanks to the unique location of the Montalbano mountain range, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Arno Valley and, depending on the route, the Pistoia Valley as well.
MOUNTAIN BIKING: Mountain bikers can explore the wonderful hilly landscape of the Montalbano range, for example, from La Collina via Larciano Alto and Castello to San Baronto, then along the high-altitude road to Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. Here, in the medieval Castello, you’ll find two small museums where Leonardo’s ingenious ideas have been brought to life through models and exhibits. The small town has plenty of little shops, restaurants, and bars for a quick snack and/or a coffee. On the way back, the route could then lead over the Montalbano ridge to San Baronto and on to Larciano. The winding roads into the Pistoia Valley and/or to Montecatini Terme or Montecatini Alto—from where you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the valley—are also charming. The same applies, of course, to MOTORCYCLISTS. Since they have a longer range, other wonderful routes—such as to the Pesciatina Switzerland region, the Cinque Terre, etc.—are highly recommended
