Hilo's restaurants, markets, and practical errands are south along the coast, while Akaka Falls makes an easy northbound adventure. This is not the dry resort side of the island. It is for travelers who want waterfalls, tropical gardens, and the Big Island's wilder, greener character.



Getting Around:

Pepeekeo sits on the Big Island's lush Hamakua Coast, about 20 minutes from Hilo International Airport. A rental car is essential here, since this rural area has few services within walking distance and exploring waterfalls, botanical gardens, and Hilo town all require driving. The surroundings are peaceful and scenic rather than walkable. Parking is easy and plentiful, right on the property.
