Thank you Jerry for your review and the 5 starts, we're happy that you and your group had a wonderful time at the cottage. I apologize for the hot tub water not looking clear/clean on your arrival, sometimes it takes a few hours for the water to clear after adding chemicals. The water was treated just before your arrival and I'm assuming it unfortunately didn't have enough time to clear up properly. As for the cleaning fee, "A $450 cleaning fee will be charged at the end of your stay" is shown on the VRBO listing as well as the rental agreement you signed. It is also not in fine print, it is a separate paragraph right under the financial section of the agreement, in the same font size AND in bold text. If you had mentioned that the cleaning fee was an issue at time of signing the agreement, you could've asked for a cancellation of the booking. We appreciate your feedback.

Thank you for the review and I apologize for the incident with the nails. A door door knob/handle broke off just before your arrival, where the door window had to be removed to gain access to the room. I'm assuming that's where the nails came from and the worker didn't clean up properly. As for the ladder to the bunk beds, it can't be permanently attached otherwise the bottom trundle can't be pulled out. However the ladder does have hooks that attach to the top bunk. for safety while being used. I'll look at it to see if something safer can be done. Regarding the hot tub sleep mode, I wish I had been made aware of it via a call or a text, it only takes a push of a button to take it out of sleep mode.

Martine, thank you for the review. I'm very sorry you feel you were taken advantage of in regards to the cleaning fee. I take that comment personally, the fact that all my previous reviews are all very positive tells me that I'm not "taking advantage" of people. I use VRBO and homeaway a few times of year for most of my out of town trips, I know what it feels like being on the other side of the fence, mainly if the property is far from what is shown on the listing. You have to agree this is not the case with my property, I try to be as transparent as possible with my guests. I just reviewed all our communication. Not sure why you were expecting the cleaning fee would be $250. I told you that you would be charged whatever the cleaning crew charged me. I can email you the invoice if you wish to review it yourself. What I did say on one of my emails was the following: "For 2015 I was charging a $250 cleaning fee and $750 damage security deposit, however I had some tenants this year that left the cottage extremely messy (ie extremely dirty bbq, garbage throughout the property, etc) and in some cases it cost me way more than $250 to clean it." This is the reason why for 2016 I decided not to have a fixed cleaning fee. As you know, cleanliness is very objective, what one person considers clean may not be what others consider clean. Having said that, regardless of how clean you left the cottage, there are certain things that need to be done with every changeover, regardless of how nice and clean you left the cottage. A few examples: -all bedsare to be stripped (whether they were used or not) and laundry must be done (sheets and towels) -all 4 bathrooms need to be properly cleaned and sanitized for obvious reasons, even if you cleaned them yourself. -Kitchen counter and fridge need to be cleaned -etc Again, I'm sorry you fell this way and if a $100 refund for the "assumed" difference will make you fell better, please let me know and I'll send it to you.

It's unfortunate that the police was called for a noise violation but after speaking with the 2 neighbouring cottagers, it's quite understandable as to why. I was told by both that the adult guests were being excessively noisy and playing "foreign" music while in the hot tub until 3AM. Then a few hours later (approx 6:30AM) multiple children took over the hot tub for most of the day and they did what children usually do while unsupervised...they scream and frolic in the hot tub. At around 11PM that night, the noise was still ongoing and the neighbours weren't willing to have a 2nd night of the same behaviour, therefore the complaint was placed with the local police. As for camera comment...yes there are 2 very visible outdoor cameras so we can monitor who comes and goes, one facing the street and another facing the lake. This is common practice when renting your home to strangers, mainly to avoid organized house parties etc. 48 reviews and a rating of 4.7/5 speaks for itself and we try very hard to maintain our exceptional rating... unfortunately this negative review makes it obvious that we can't please all our guests...especially when they are unreasonable and inconsiderate of others!
