Malerisk hytte beliggende 15 miles fra Blacksburg VA

Huset har rummelige soveværelser med trægulve, originale gipsvægge og en køkkenø lavet fra begyndelsen af 1900 2ft brede tavler. Begge sofaer foldes ud i senge for at få ekstra ophold. Det sidder nær New River og Norfolk & Western jernbanen, og som sådan passerer toget lejlighedsvis forbi, skal du være opmærksom på potentialet for togstøj.

Huset er ikke egnet til store grupper eller fester.

Der er en komfur med ovn, en mikrobølgeovn og brødrister, et køleskab, køkkengrej, tallerkener, kopper, glas og sølvtøj.

Alt sengetøj og håndklæder leveres.

Vi har Smart TV tilsluttet en Netflix-konto lige til huset, lokalt fremstillet sæbe og lokalt brændt kaffe. Vi leverer ørepropper til gæster, der foretrækker ikke at høre toget.

Sommerhuset ligger ved siden af The Palisades Restaurant i en gammel feriested, der engang var en blomstrende destination og et stop på N & W Railroad. En destination endnu en gang, landsbyen vender tilbage til livet med en prisvindende restaurant, kunsthåndværk og nu logi.

Som en ekstra service garanterer vi middagsreservation på The Palisades Restaurant for gæster. Forespørg venligst reservationer for dagen, tidspunktet og antallet af gæster ved reservationen.

Wonderful getaway

We loved our stay in Eggleston. Shaena's properties are charming and the location is perfect, close to the Palisades restaurant, Blacksburg and the Cascades waterfall. Thank you for such a wonderful trip. We look forward to coming back!

We had the best time staying here. The house was so cute. Lots of room and we loved the porch! The scenery and proximity to nearby towns is so convenient. The restaurant next door was awesome. A definite return for us!! ♥️♥️♥️

Overall a good experience. The hostess was very nice and quickly addressed our questions. No hot tub to be found but the neighbooring resturant was excellent!

Cousins Reunite

Met with cousins and spouses on Saturday with a pot luck lunch. Great to connect as we are living apart. Had a terrific visit: especially the friendly engineers on the trains.

A nice getaway

A beautiful setting for a charming cottage nestled in the mountains. Located next to the train tracks we enjoyed watching the trains go by.

Traveling to WV for a wedding and my mother took me to Palasades several years ago as it was a favorite of she and her late husband. When I saw the cottage was available I booked it. Loved everything about it - especially the trains. Loved being back in the mountains!!

Great stay next to the best restaurant!

This was definitely a fun stay in a cool old house! The Palisades restaurant next door was outstanding. This Florida girl had a rough time with the curvy roads going up the mountain, but well worth it. We loved watching the trains go by and I slept through the night without a problem!

Journey home

The property was very comfortable and the host was very helpful (a special thank you to Alicia for stepping in and being so helpful). As mentioned by others, there are trains that go by the back porch several times a day both day and night. We didn't mind it. Thanks again for a safe and comfortable stay.

The house was adorable and very clean. The trains did wake us up but it added to the charm of the cute cottage. You have to eat at the Palisades restaurant next door.

Overnight Train. and lodging lightening

Overnight train kept us up most of the night. The lighting in the lodge needs more lamps. Over head lights are great, but sitting in the evening needs low level lighting. Lodge as very clean and comfortable. I would stay there again, but realize that several trains come through the night. Little too expensive for the stay.

Weekend rondeau with our son

The house is warm, spacious and has all the amenities. The area is rich in history, beautiful scenery and hiking. Of course the Palisades is top notch dining and next door! And I like the train!!

Fun for a weekend in Blacksburg

It's an older home so the floors were a bit uneven, but all the furnishings were very nice, loved the walk-in showers. I did need to use the complimentary earplugs because it's directly beside the railroad track and there are frequent trains, including at night, but with those in I slept great, comfy beds. The road into Eggleston and the driveway to the cottage are fairly steep and winding, I was glad I had AWD. Highly recommend walking over to the Pallisades for dinner, it was SO GOOD. Wi-fi and Netflix worked great too, overall a very nice stay!

One night in a little museum with very very loud rail traffic during the whole night :-(

Very cute, lovely litte house with a lot of historical furniture. Bathrooms are fantastic, the kitchen ist cute. The neighborhood restaurant ist fantastic. But ... - maximum accommodation is 6 and not as written for 8 adults! You have two normal, but very old and creaky, queen size bed und two small sleep couches. One is ok, the other one ist not OK, even for one adult. - the rail traffic at night is very very loud. You can not sleep, even with ear-plugs. The children were afraid of the noise in the dark. The rail traffic in the night is nearly every hour!!! The price for one night under these conditions is too much. Sorry, no like!

It was hard to enter when I arrived, as it is so rural there is no cell service. I couldn’t check my email to get the code that was supposedly sent. The property is run down, not as pictured. The ceiling has fallen in on the porch, large cracks on the plaster walls in the bedroom and bathroom. Light switches are inconvenient, so you have to cross dark rooms to reach them. The ceiling fan chains are so short you have to stand on a stool to reach them. The house is set next to train tracks and the train went by 4 times in less than 3 hours. The brakes squeal like nails on a chalkboard. Without ear plugs I would not have been able to sleep. Part of the allure of this house is that it is in a rural setting where you hope it will be quiet. I love staying in old places, but not when they are not as described or pictured. It was not an enjoyable stay at all.

Mountain cottage getaway

Mr. Hunter's cottage is a lovely cottage from a by-gone era. Located in the mountains of Giles county, VA, this cottage is comfortable with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The cottage is furnished with pieces that could have been there when it was built. The cottage has a beautiful porch, a great place for morning coffee. There is a very nice restaurant just steps from the cottage. I advise having at least one meal there, make sure you have reservations, as it can get quite busy. The restaurant was closed during my visit, but we were able to prepare very nice meals in the cottage kitchen. The New river is just steps from the cottage, and there is a very nice boat ramp near by. I believe there are several liveries in the area that will provide canoes, SUPs, tubes, and sit on kayaks, as well as a shuttle.There are also a number of other natural attractions in the area. The Cascades in Pembroke is a lovely hike to a beautiful waterfall. Bring your birding guide books and binoculars, you may get a few for your life list! The cottage is located on a very busy train line, with trains passing night and day. There is a road crossing near by, so all trains sound the horn when passing. There are foam ear plugs provided. TL;DR: clean, comfortable cottage located on a river with a train line in the mountains of southwest VA, great place for a getaway! Plan for curvy, narrow roads, trains night and day, and a slower pace.

Country Gem

Wonderful home in a beautiful and out of the way location with easy access to Blacksburg and VT! All the modern amenities in a charming, older home in a country setting with an interesting historical story. We enjoyed the thoughtful touches like the coffee from the award winning restaurant next door and the toilet paper with humourous wrappers. There was comfortable bedding and tons of fluffy towels. Despite it's somewhat remote location there was good WiFi and streaming and cable. We could even see our local news from our home city in Texas. The area surrounding the home is worth some adventure driving, just drive and enjoy amazing vistas and stunning tunnels made from the trees! We will be back! Perfect to escape the craziness in Blacksburg during the times like VT move in/out, football games, parents weekend, etc., but close enough to go back and forth throughout the day, if needed. The only thing that might be an issue, for some but not us, was the train that passes by. We LOVED sitting on the porch and having it go by. The owners thoughtfully left earplugs at the bedside in case the train was bothersome, but we didn't need them. Oh! We like to sleep with the TV on so we appreciated not just having one in the TV room, but in both bedrooms. Not important to some, but great for us! I say book this place, but leave some dates for us!!!

Shaena grew up in Pembroke, Virginia just two miles from the site of the cottage. She remembers visiting Pyne's General Store, which was located right next to the cottage, as a little girl with her family. In 2009, she turned the building into The Palisades Restaurant. She has been in the restaurant and event businesses for over 20 years. Her extensive experience includes producing high-profile worldwide events such as the award-winning 2004 International VSA Arts Festival in Washington, D.C., the 2002 U.S. Olympic Torch Relay and the 1998 World Exposition in Lisbon, Portugal.

After traveling to all of the seven continents, including Antarctica, Shaena has returned to Giles County which she considers one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Before dining at the Palisades restaurant right next door, you can work up an appetite by hiking to the Cascades, a natural waterfall. Or grab a paddle and canoe down the New River – the worlds second oldest waterway. Or visit Giles’ three historic covered bridges – the most of any county in the state. Giles County offers numerous recreational activities so there's more than just one reason you’ll want to come to visit.
