Nerja 015 - Nerja, Costa del Sol

During the second half of March 2022, the south of Spain suffered 3 consecutive waves of severe desert clouds with dust from the Sahara. Due to the rain, all this dust came down and caused an image of the Costa del Sol that was never seen before. Nerja looked much like a ghost town seen in westerns... The famous white village of Frigiliana turned into an orange village. The pools of all properties got covered with a thick layer of dust that sunk to the bottom, causing a clay like mass. Due to water shortage, the town halls of Nerja and Frigiliana had forbidden to throw out the pool water, which would have been the fastest way to clean the pools. Instead, we had to find alternative ways, like hoovering the dirt out bit by bit. After each wave, the dust still kept coming off the trees and roofs, causing the properties, pools and terraces to look terrible again and needing daily cleaning. In other words: during these weeks there was no way, nor personnel enough, to keep up with those circumstances. We fully understand the disappointment of our guests who had the bad luck of staying during this period, and we would like to offer our apologies for not meeting their expectations. We're sure things would have been completely different without the desert clouds.
