Great for a big family getaway
Ideal for big group for a holiday but did not work for two seniors on a longer stay. Lovely surroundings and beautiful view. One negative was being advised to use bottled water.
Thanks for the kind review John. I heard this was an issue after your stay from the other guest. I advise everyone to not use the water for drinking as I cannot guarantee the quality. It is city water trucked into a holding tank and is usually very good. I clean the tank periodically and it was done days after your departure. Even still I advise people to use bottled water.
Great find in Burlington / Hamilton area
We loved this house! We stayed for 3 nights (couple with our 2 adult children) while visiting family in the area. The location is great - a 5-minute drive to grocery stores, etc. in Burlington, and a very quick drive to either the Aldershot or Burlington GO station. At the same time it's a quiet location, with two houses on a very large lot. Great view of the bay and Skyway bridge. The house was equipped with everything you could need, and well-furnished . We have stayed in a lot of VRBOs, and this was the most comfortably furnished one I have seen. We also enjoyed the large deck, equipped with a barbecue and picnic table. I would definitely rent this property again when we are back in the area.
We did not enjoy our stay at all. From the moment we arrived, we realized the host misled us about the property. Had we not already paid so much money, we would have left after the first night.
I asked the host beforehand if the cottage was very private and he said there was another house on the property but that it was blocked by trees. This was a lie. The trees he referred to have maybe just been planted and you can very clearly see the other house and owner who lives there, which is very very close.
There was also a man who came by unannounced each day that we were there and roamed the property doing what, we're not sure. We don't know who this man was, but we assume he works for the owner. So again, no privacy at all.
The house was infested with wasps. There are at least 2 nests in the walls of the property. We told the host after one of us was stung and he claimed he had no knowledge of the wasps and did not offer any assistance at that time to help remove some of the wasps. It was so bad that we could not sit outside on the deck or have any of the widows open or they would get in the house.
The house rules state to throw any unwanted food at the edge of the property for animals so we're guessing that's why on one of the days, there was a coyote napping, very close to the property. After this, I was unable to have my dogs offleash as the coyote seemed very unafraid and willing to come very close to the property.
This property is not pet friendly as it states. I asked the host before we booked if dogs were allowed. He asked the breed of mine and I told him. He said that was fine and to add them to the number of attendees, thus charging us for them on top of the additional pet cleaning fee.
The house rules at the cottage state to lay blankets down if the dogs will be on the furniture, which I did and the host then declined to return our deposit, one reason being that the blankets had fur on them. Ok. After charging already for extra cleaning.
The other reason the host declined to return our deposit was that we did not clean one pan to his liking, despite the fact that there are no utensils such as a scrub brush, with which to clean the metal pan that had no protective coating.
After all the dishonesty we already dealt with, I was not at all surprised that the host would find an excuse to not return our deposit.
Laura was specifically told her dogs could not be on the furniture. Because she didn't have her dogs under control they we're everywhere including the beds requiring double washing and hand picking of the hair off the sheets and bedspreads. Not everyone appreciates dogs and almost no one wants pet fur on their sheets and furniture. The wool blankets were covered in fur and left unusable. They were donated to an African charity so not a total loss. The frying pan was in the same condition and just removed.
As far as privacy is concerned I actually show in my photos the other house in relation to the house on the property. You will see there are very large trees and the house is quite far away.
After two days I was told everything was good, no mention of problems or hornets or privacy.
The man who was on the property was there to cut grass but will only cut if he isn't disturbing anyone. This requires often a few trips if we are booked heavily. He wouldn't be hanging around for long periods but long enough in case guests leave.
I can't control the wild animals and most guests are thrilled with seeing them, even a coyote. I have lived here and owned the property for 20+ years and have seen two coyotes and none were on the property. The composter or garbage are available for disposal of waste.
I came back to spray the hornets but they do take a few spraying attempts to get rid of. I never received a message about them, I just happened to be there on I think the third day and was told.
Most guests are super happy with my fast replies to issues including the guests directly before Laura. Laura never mentioned a hornet issue by text but instead said everything was okay. Many would immediately upon noticing hornets call or message not wait for a visit by the owner. All Laura needed to do was ask for assistance when she arrived. Had I not been there on day two or three I wouldn't likely have heard about the hornets.
To be clear, pet friendly doesn't mean the dogs can do anything they like. Laura's dogs are also jumpers and don't respect other people who don't want unwanted attention. I'm very allergic to pet fur and these dogs immediately jumped on me when I approached the house for garbage pickup. Her dogs needed to be on a leash for other guests enjoyment.
Most are respectful of house rules, Laura wasn't.
I've hosted over 500 guests with almost a perfect record. I've many guests who come back multiple times.
