Whitby is a lively fishing town made famous by the novel ’Dracula’, written by Bram Stoker. A popular attraction is to climb the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey, where the mythical creature is said to have climbed from the shipwreck just off this wonderful coastline, and enjoy a spectacular view down across the town. With a myriad of cobbled back streets and a cosmopolitan selection of shops, tea rooms and galleries, it’s easy to spend a day ambling around the town. The beautiful sandy beach stretches along to Sandsend and makes for a wonderful stroll. Although famous for fish and chips, Whitby has a lot more to offer, from Michelin Star restaurants and gastro pubs, to pubs offering live music and real ales.

For the outdoor enthusiast, the Cleveland Way runs through the town and offers wonderful coastal walks all along the picturesque Yorkshire Heritage Coastline. Another popular walk is the Cinder Track, which will take you down into Robin Hood’s Bay and beyond. You will find surfing schools and stories of piracy along the coast in stunning bays and coves such as Staithes and Runswick Bay, as well as Saltburn and Sandsend. Enjoy a ride through town on the open top tour bus or venture out to sea on one of the pleasure cruisers. The Harry Potter Express Steam Train runs into the heart of the North York Moors National Park and ‘Heartbeat’ country, where you will find Goathland, which still has some of the original film set on show. With so much to see and do, Whitby is the perfect all year round destination for the whole family. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Osbourne Cottage Whitby
We had a lovely family holiday in Osbourne Cottage . Parking was a bit of a challenge on arrival as we were in two cars but once we unpacked and settled in the cars remained where they were as the house is well placed for walking into town . There are a lot of stairs so elderly guests or families with toddlers might have some difficulty. We also had an issue with where to put rubbish but the management company gave advice and I understand it is now resolved . The furnishings were lovely.. very comfortable beds ! I would recommend this cottage .
