About this property

Grade II Listed cottage - wood fired hot tub, opposite award winning village pub

Newly restored 17th Century farmers cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside. The cottage brings all of the charm of the countryside with original sandstone walls, a wood burner and original wood beams alongside modern upgrades such as underfloor heating and a wood burning, salt water hot tub.

Located in a rural village, you’ll be hard pushed to find a more convenient location as you cross the road to the village pub to enjoy local ales and home cooked food.

The market town of Malton (known as Yorkshire's Food Capital) is just seven minutes drive from the cottage, the postcard-perfect market square hosts monthly food markets, annual food festivals, a gourmet 10K and Meadowfest.

You'll also be ideally located to explore the Yorkshire Wolds (2 miles), Howardian Hills (10 miles), the medieval City of York (17 miles), dog friendly beaches (27 miles) and Whitby (via the steam train from Pickering). Local favourites Castle Howard, Birdsall House & Dalby Forest are also nearby.

A superb country cottage!
My partner and I (and our dog) stayed at Gemma’s lovely cottage and we couldn’t be happier! Communication was prompt, the cottage was immaculate when we arrived and fully equipped, and the village of Burythorpe was beautiful! Highly recommend popping into the pub across the street as it was lovely. Gemma also provided several great recommendations in the guest book and we are sad that we couldn’t get to everything in our weekend stay! Would definitely come back, thanks Gemma!

Could not recommend this cottage enough. Absolutely great. The cottage owners couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel at home with a great welcome pack. We will definitely be returning. Great place

Hi, I'm Gemma - I joke that I'm your self-catering concierge because I enjoy helping couples that stay with us have the most fabulous time enjoying what I think is the best part of Britain (I know... it's a bold claim!) but I chose to settle here on a farm in the village so perhaps that's enough evidence for now :-)

Why they chose this property

I adore that I live in a rural village, where i can walk past fields of crops and horses (and donkeys - I kid you not) to the most stunning pub which has fires roaring most of the year. There is a boutique hotel where I can get gluten and dairy-free afternoon tea on the lawn. I can be in the bustling market town on Malton in just 7 minutes in the car. This is a town famous for its markets and makers. With two food festivals a year, a gourmet 10K and it's own summer festival (Meadowfest) there's always something going on. PLUS the medieval City of York is only half an hour away, and beaches are just 45 minutes drive. Castle Howard... Dalby Forest... I could talk for 15 minutes about this...

What makes this property unique

This old farmer's cottage has been renovated with love. The ironwork, the wooden beams, the 17th-century sandstone walls. It oozes history effortlessly, and couples it with the luxuries of modern life like underfloor heating and full-length folding doors into the garden. It's also just 5 paces from a dog-friendly village pub that serves food, so you'll never need to 'nip out' for anything.
