About this property

Fabulous 1 bedroom ground floor apartment with own entrance. 3km from Belves.

A light and airy recently remodelled one bedroom ground level apartment with own entrance and parking space. In the open-plan fully equipped kitchen there is a convection microwave oven and an induction hob along with a coffee machine, kettle and toaster. An undercounter fridge with an small freezer compartment. A dining table and chairs for two, a couple of armchairs and a coffee table complete the open plan area. A wall-mounted SMART TV with access to Netflix and other apps.
A coal BBQ is available for you to enjoy al fresco dining on your own terrace with access to a beautiful, well-kept large garden. A pond, meadow and walnut grove provide the perfect environment for the kingfishers, (Inspiration for the apartment name) herons, woodpeckers and variety of other birds that visit daily. A large pool area, sun loungers with parasols, solar shower and Wi-Fi access provide a relaxing stay.
The bedroom has a double bed and built in wardrobe with shelving and hanging space. An ensuite shower room with power point for hairdryer (supplied). The main window has shutters for those who prefer a darkened room at night, or for a daytime rest.
There is a separate WC with a hand wash basin.
The Boulangerie Pâtisserie is within a 15 minute walk from the apartment and are well known locally for their delicious pastries and breads.
A couple of minutes drive to Belvès, you will be in officially one of France’s Beau villages, renowned for its seven bell towers and its troglodyte caves. The village offers bars, restaurants, a variety of independent shops and a very good wine shop.
A cash withdrawal machine is available at the Credit Agricole bank in the town square.
In Belvès the weekly market on a Saturday morning provides fresh seasonal local produce. On Sunday, Saint-Cyprien, only a 15 minute drive away offers the same but with added Brocante type stalls.
There is a choice of supermarkets. 2 Carrefour, a large Intermarché, an Aldi, Lidl and Spar convenience store within a short drive.
Nearby there are plenty of other spectacular towns and villages to visit, including Sarlat-la-Canéda, (36.1km) la Roque-Gageac, (25.2km) Beynac, (24.4km) Domme, (28km) Monpazier (19.6km) and Saint-Cyprien (16.4km) to mention a few. The Dordogne river itself – a great place to try kayaking – is also just a short drive away.
For keen golfers there are two golf-courses less than 10 minutes away, that offer an 18 hole and a 9 hole course.
Hot air balloon rides are available from nearby Beynac or Laroque Gageac as well as Castelnaud-la-Chapelle which offer stunning views of the castles along the Dordogne.

To get to us by car, Bergerac airport is the nearest at 41km (about 50 minutes), Brive 49km (1hr13) Toulouse 176km (2hr15) and Bordeaux airport, 180km ( also about 2hr15).

Bel endroit, belles personnes!

Relaxation in the Sun!
We both had an amazing week at Las Malpas Kingfisher. We were greeted at the end of a long drive with a smile from the hosts. They provided a great welcome pack with everything we needed for the evening meal and tea and coffee. There is a very nice boulangerie a short drive away. The pool is a great size for swimming and cooling down. The sun loungers are great for relaxing in the sun. The apartment itself is well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable weeks stay. Tracey and David were fantastic hosts and looked after us throughout the week. We had a wonderful time and hope to visit both you and Charlie again.

A little bit of Dordogne heaven
Excellent accommodation, impeccably clean, everything provided & of a high quality. It’s conveniently located for visiting lots of places including Belves, Monpazier & Sarlat which has a fantastic Saturday market. The garden is a haven of tranquility for relaxing. The outdoor space is very private & the pool is second to none! One of the best we’ve experienced in 10+ years of staying in France. More than big enough to support both apartments & plenty of good quality pool furniture. Tracey & David are excellent hosts, very welcoming. They are on hand if needed but respect your privacy & are not intrusive. One bit of advice, if you stay at Le Malpas be prepared to not want to leave & to want to return! We would not hesitate to recommend on all counts.

WONDERFUL RESTFUL STAY
We very much enjoyed our stay. Tracey and David are very welcoming hosts, attentive without being intrusive. Excellent accommodation, very well equipped with a super pool. The gite is in a lovely location with its own little garden where you can watch out for the kingfisher. We would recommend it to our friends and definitely come back next time we’re in the region.

About the host

Hosted by Tracey and David

Host profile image
Hi, we are Tracey and David and for 10 years we built our dream of living in France by visiting most school holidays (I was a teacher) and exploring the different areas this beautiful country has to offer. We fell in love with the Dordogne quite early on and decided that was where we would settle. Having friends in La Roque Gageac made for a good base to go out and explore. In May 2020 we decided to take the leap and sold up in the UK and moved over here on November 1st 2020, just in time for lockdown. This made it quite tricky to find a property but as we had already narrowed down the area we wanted to be in, somewhere near a river, it was just a case of searching for a property online and on drives out (Attestation in hand...)
Le Malpas was meant to be! A few minutes from beautiful Belvès and with its own pond and stream bordering the property. Around 2.5 acres of land and our nearest neighbours about 500m away means we have the privacy we always wanted but without feeling completely isolated.
I have carried on teaching online but as we had always said we would have holiday accommodation as a business and with David's extensive home renovation experience, here we are, three years later ready to welcome returning and new guests.
We also now have a gorgeous Brittany Spaniel called Charlie. For those of you who are not keen on dogs, we make sure he stays out of your way.
For families with young children, please be aware that the property has quite a large open pond and the garden is not secured by fences at all.

Why they chose this property

Being in the heart of the Perigord Noir, this property was perfect for visiting the various well-known towns and villages in the Golden Triangle that this area of the Dordogne boasts. It contains some of the most beautiful villages in the region, some of which enjoy the official title as such as part of the association 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France', Belvès being one of them. Bergerac airport is only 50 minutes away and a picturesque drive to get to the property so not a chore. (No M25 to negotiate)
We were also very happy to have a large 12 by 6 metre pool which allows for a relaxing or energetic swim... mine is usually the former! Learning how to keep it sparkling has been fun, with the aid of 'Robbie' our pool robot I must confess!

What makes this property unique

The setting of the house makes us feel like we could be in our own little 'centre parcs'. It has made us realise just how relaxing life can be. Breakfast taken whilst watching the birds at the feeding table or hearing the buzzards and woodpeckers and various other yet to be identified birds, makes for a great start to the day. Our first Spring here was gorgeous! So many plants and flowers to identify and tend to and of course, the little lambs on the hill across the road have been a treat.
We look forward to welcoming our guests and sharing this little bit of paradise.
