About this property

Chart Cottage - Three Bedroom House, Sleeps 6

Just a short walk from the seafront, this pretty stone built cottage is charming with beautiful interiors and period features including inglenook fireplace and beamed ceilings.
Chart Cottage dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria. This former Headmaster’s house is a much loved holiday home with attractive Gothic style windows and a pretty fitted kitchen with Belfast sink, it’s comfortable, warm and welcoming. Accommodation is over two floors with a cosy sitting room and three first floor bedrooms (all ensuite) sleeping six guests. Outside there’s a lovely paved courtyard with table and chairs for alfresco dining.
Beer is a traditional fishing village in a sheltered bay on the beautiful World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The port dates back to the 15th century and is charming with its beach huts and colourful boats washed up on the shingle. Stroll around the independent shops, galleries and cafes, take a walk along the dramatic cliff hugging coastal path to Branscombe beach. Branscombe has a couple of good pubs and a dog-friendly beach with a great cafe serving fresh seafood. Take a fishing trip or delve into Beer Quarry Caves, just a short drive away.

New Year in Beer with friends
Lovely little traditional cottage near the very centre of the village of Beer. Unfortunately the weather was really bad, so we weren’t able to do too much. The Anchor pub in the village on New Year’s Eve hada lovely atmosphere , but the food was not the best. Also in December/January the majority of the village is closed. The only downside, was lack of attention to detail with cleaning, so very dusty if you ran your fingers along shelves etc. also very few cleaning products and no food bin liners or bin bags were available. And outside bin in front garden was overflowing when we arrived, which doesn’t look attractive, so nowhere to put our rubbish. Having said that I would return, but not at this time of year and with a few extra things at hand.

Devon exploration
Chart House was a delightful cottage that allowed our family of 5 to have bedrooms with their own bathrooms. It was as described on the web site and very comfortable. That is a huge plus when travelling as a larger group. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated and the kitchen was large with good food storage. Our rating of 4 was due to the fact that there wasn’t sufficient mugs for 5 adults (there were only a total of 6) so we were constantly washing mugs from breakfast to lunch to tea time... a minor issue I admit but a time waster, and there wasn’t kitchen bin bags other than the small food waste recycle bags. As well, previous guests had dumped their garbage without sorting so it was refused pick up by local services and sat there wet, with full bins out the front. It would have been nice to have a welcome package of paper towels, more than one dishwasher pod, sink cloth, large bin bags, and more than 2 tea towels. We did contact the management company and they were quick to address our issues and extremely professional. The location is on a busy road - but is centrally located to easily access the village of Beer’s lovely shops, eateries and is a pleasant walk to harbour front. Beer is a great jumping off point for visits to other villages, beaches and sites in the area of the Jurassic Coast.
