About this property

16th Century hunting lodge with modern pool

This rural 16th century 'Pavillon de Chasse' has a lovely view of the Lac de Castelgaillard to the front and a meadow beyond the pool to the rear. The lodge is on a road which runs along one side of the lake and has only three other houses. It is 35 minutes from Bergerac airport and 80 minutes from Bordeaux airport.

The lodge sleeps 8 adults in 4 double bedrooms plus 2 children in a bedroom with bunk beds off the main bedroom. Two of the bedrooms have king size double beds. The other two can be made up as 2 super king size double beds or 4 large single beds depending on your needs. Most rooms have original stone walls and the upper floor living room is double height with exposed old beams and a small balcony, overlooking the lake, from which to watch the sunset. The large covered rear terrace and salt pool are new. There are open sun terraces on three sides of the house with tables and chairs to enjoy the sun or shade at any time of day. This is the first year this house is available to rent, so all beds, bed linen and towels are brand new. The main lodge floor, which opens onto the rear terrace and pool, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, the large, living room and a well equipped kitchen diner with a table seating 10 people. The other floor opens onto south facing terraces and the lake. It contains two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living room equipped with fridge and drinks bar area.

The village of Saint Sernin is 8 minutes walk away and has a bar tabac (for bread and croissant) and a lovely local restaurant. You can book to play tennis on the village courts through the tabac. The nearest supermarket and petrol station are 8 minutes away near Duras. There are even larger supermarkets 18 minutes away in Pineuilh.

The nearest town, Duras, is one of several Bastide towns in the area and has a castle open to the public. The lodge is in the middle of Cote de Duras and Bordeaux wine country for visiting vineyards. The famous Monbazillac castle and vineyard are only 30 minutes away. There are many pretty villages with day and night time markets close by. Eymet is among the most famous with its nightly market in high season and a large selection of restaurants to suit all tastes.

Activities for all the family include canoeing and kayaking about 20 mins away or table-tennis, the pool and hundreds of DVD's or TV (freeview UK channels) to watch downstairs.

Gibbard/Pilllard/Boylan week
Lovely, characterful and spacious house in a glorious setting. We very much enjoyed our stay, in spite of the mosquitoes! The children loved it and are keen to return on another occasion. Ideal for an extended family like ours. Jayne, the local agent, was charming and very helpful. On the down side, the directions to find the property weren't great and it's a bit cheeky to ask visitors to help manage the pool-cleaning machine when they've paid a lot of money to stay in the house. Overall, minor niggles that didn't spoil a very good visit.

The Perfect House for an incredible holiday
A really fantastic well equipped house bursting with character in an incredible location. The owner and house manager were really accommodating and helpful, with lots of tips for places to go and explore. The location is stunning, breathtaking views over the lake set in the middle of local vineyards. We’re definitely coming back.

Lovely propery, fabulous holiday!
We’ve stayed in this area several times and this house is certainly one of our favourites - full of character, quality furnishings, well equipped and maintained, peaceful, lovely pool and terraces/garden. I had very prompt communications with the owner and local property manager., both making a real effort to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay including good local recommendations. The nearby village and towns are delightful and this house has everything you need for a relaxing holiday.
