About this property

Beautiful spacious barn conversion on the edge of the South Downs National Park

This beautiful spacious barn conversion on the edge of the South Downs National Park, with 3 bedrooms that sleeps 6 persons . The Cart House is located near to the picturesque village of Bishop's Waltham with fabulous views of the adjoining countryside.

The Cart House offers a comfortable and relaxing base for couples and families wishing to explore this popular part of Hampshire and is ideal for keen walkers and cyclists.

Formerly the barn was an open-fronted, timber-framed building with cart bays at one end and an adjoining hay loft which was then cleverly converted. Split over two floors and can accommodate 6 people. It has 2 ground floor bedrooms with a third bedroom and cosy snug on the mezzanine levels. It features a vaulted ceiling, beams and traditional stone flooring in the well equipped kitchen/diner and a comfortable lounge with 65" smart TV to relax in after your days out or long countryside walks.

Finished to an exceptionally high standard, the accommodation on the ground floor comprises a beautiful large kitchen/dining room with a vaulted ceiling and an array of original exposed beams, a living room with doors onto the garden, one double bedroom and one kingsize bedroom with en-suite.

On the first floor there is a further mezzanine bedroom that overlooks the kitchen/dining room with its own en-suite toilet. At the other end of the barn is a second mezzanine that looks out over the adjoining countryside, that makes the perfect snug.

Conveniently located for local pubs and restaurants - the nearest only a minute’s walk away, with Bishop’s Waltham less than a mile away offering a comprehensive range of pubs, restaurants, independent shops, such as a butcher, bakery, greengrocers and more.

Bishop’s Waltham nearby is a medieval market town and has interesting places to visit such as the 12th century ruins of Bishop’s Waltham Palace, the museum, and the Roman Church.

The city is also host to many events throughout the year including street theatre, jazz festivals and outdoor cinema and film events. Also known for its Christmas market with outdoor ice rink. Fantastic stay
We had an amazing stay. The cart house is faultless - spacious yet cosy, spotlessly clean, and there is a real ‘wow’ factor as soon as you walk through the door. Excellent communication throughout our stay. The welcome basket was such a thoughtful addition. The highchair and cot provided were perfect for our one year old. Great location for marwell zoo/paultons park, plus a vast selection of board games/books/dvds for the rainy days too! We would definitely stay again in the future!

The excellent Cart Hous
We stayed at the Cart House from the 19th until the 25th April and it surpassed our expectations which were high to start with! From the well and thoughtfully stocked welcome basket to the cleanliness and excellent touches throughout it was perfect for our requirements. The owners were on hand if required and very quick to respond to a question we had. All in all we wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend the Cart House , it was simply excellent.

Exquisite property with magnificent attention to detail
We have stayed in many holiday rentals within the UK and overseas - this accommodation outshines them all. Such a comfortable and relaxing place to stay with provision for everything you would need for everyday living. The proprietors were only a phone call away should you need their help with anything. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a holiday rental in this area.

A bittersweet trip
I booked this fabulous property so that II could introduce my sister to her Great Niece and Nephew for probably the first and last time - she has pancreatic cancer. I coupled this with a trip to mark zoo and Peppa Pig World. The property is stunning and met our expectations and went well beyond. Their four star gold award is very well deserved. I’d recommend it in an instant

Lovely stay, beautiful accommodation
A lovely place to stay. Everything we needed was available, including lots of little extras that you don’t always see. You could tell lots of care had been taken when creating it as a holiday let. Plenty of local food and drink options, and a local shop only a couple of minutes away. The owners were very helpful. Check in and out was easy. Would recommend, and will definitely book again.

Jonathan and Vanessa opened The Cart House in late 2022 following a year renovating the property. When they first saw the property, they realised that they had found somewhere that would make an amazing holiday retreat in a prime location for exploring Hampshire. With experience of growing up in the sector and years of renting holiday properties all over the world, they knew exactly how they wanted to finish The Cart House, finishing it to a high standard but still feeling like it was a home from home and of course with a few tech gadgets.
