The village is a popular stop-off site for travellers, nestled in the lovely valley of Weardale. There are several well-known pubs, cafes, and restaurants in the town, as well as convenience stores and takeaways. An indoor swimming pool and gym, a lawn bowls club, many picnic places, and a leisure site with an outdoor gym and playing fields are also available in the town. A Post Office, library, bank, gift and antique shops, grocery stores, bakery, butchers, and greengrocers are among the town's many services. In addition, all the big supermarkets deliver here.
