About this property

Unique cottage for 2 retreat with pool in Sierra Nevada National Park Alpujarras

This cosy cortijo is situated between the villages of Busquistar and Trevelez and 25 km from the town of Orgiva. These self-catering cottages also locally known as casa rural are located in the heart of Las Alpujarras in the National Park in Sierra Nevada near Granada, Andalusia. The unique geographical location makes it ideal from the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean to the south and the Alhambra in Granada to the north.
This cortijo (one of 3) is ideally situated for a couple looking for a break from it all. It is self contained with its own bathroom, kitchen/sitting room and one double bedroom. It has its own private terrace with seating, bbq, hammock and stunning views. It is set in large gardens with a wide variety of fruit trees as well as grassed areas and guests are welcome to wander wherever they like. It is only a short walk from the swimming pool. The large pool is filled from a natural spring water stream. Please note that the swimming pool is shared between this cottage and 2 other detached cottages but you will hardly ever find other people by the pool as often guests spend a day at the beach or visiting Granada or hiking locally. The garden and grounds are extensive and guests are encouraged to wander freely and explore. There is also a peaceful shaded area with various 500 year old chestnut trees, ideal for meditation, yoga and relaxation.

Best in the Alpujarras!
Our stay at Cortijo Rey Fini was one of the most enjoyable experiences we have had in ten years of holidaying in the Alpujarras.. The location is superb, with expansive views along the valley towards Trevelez. Such a tranquil place, lots of space to wander around in, with a wonderful variety of trees. While there we breakfasted on freshly picked figs and nisperro every day. The natural spring water pool is deliciously cool and clean, overlooked by picturesque arbors with recliners and a hammock! We had the smallest cortijo “Pablito” which was very authentic and comfortable. Our hosts, Mo and Lucy, could not have done enough for us. While there, unfortunately, our car broke down, and Mo made four trips to Pitres to ensure that it would be repaired as soon as possible, then loaned us his car so that we could get provisions in, and then refused our offer of payment for the three extra days we had to stay while waiting for the car to be ready! Such generosity and friendliness we will never forget. We will definitely be back!

Highly recommended for all those who are looking for something original and would like to relax.
We had a great stay at the Walnut Cortijo. Luci gave us a warm welcome and she really wanted to make us feel good. We invited her to sangria and had a wonderful evening on her terrace. Every morning there was breakfast outside (with fresh eggs from the chicken coop) on the terrace with a fantastic view. Relaxation offered the hammock on the terrace and by the pool. Lingering by the pool was great, even with nice shade next to the strawberries;) The buzzing of the animals, the cowbells on the other side of the mountain, the chirping of the birds is wonderful - here you really get down. Without TV, WLAN and with mediocre cell phone reception anyway, which we used wonderfully to play cards. With grill and stove we could wonderful self supply, you have to rinse yourself here -the grill and the back oven were dirty - but that was not a big problem for us. Trevelez is only 4km away, for jamon lovers a true mecca 😊. There was a small supermarket for the most necessary and delicious fresh bread and also in the place a small butcher for some grilled meat. About 20 minutes away there is a well-stocked supermarket with a fairly well-stocked fresh counter for cold cuts, cheese and meat. Who wants to have more choice here should go shopping in or clearly before Orgiva. It did not bother us. We were there with our 10 month old daughter. It worked quite well, but the wooden terrace was not necessarily suitable for crawling. Here we would rather run with children who can go again. The Cortijo was probably built by the Moors, which of course makes it even more exciting if you combine this holiday with a visit to Granada and the Alhambra, which you should definitely have seen. The pictures are a bit misleading, which Cortijo which is but you can ask in advance in the open and fast communication with mo and Lucy. The vita of mo and Lucy reads very interesting and sounds even more interesting in a personal conversation. We hope to meet mo next time. You can feel that the restoration of the land and the cortijos has gone a long way, which makes this place very special. Highly recommended for all those who are looking for something original and would like to escape from the modern and fast world. The last time we were not here - we will come back.

Perfect spot to relax
We really enjoyed our one week stay at Cortijo Pablito. The Cortijo provides everything you need including a beautiful view from the terrace. The garden with its trees and the pool area are lovely. Lucy and Mo are great hosts. Never had better cherries than those from their garden.

I am the founder of Tumi ( Latin American Crafts), Tumi Music and Tumi productions. Though I am an Anglo-Iranian national, I have spent most of my life in Latin America in search of Music and crafts and have written several books on Latin America including The Weavers of ancient Peru, Portrait of Latin America, co-author of Cuban Dictionary ( University press- USA) and together with my wife Lucy The arts and crafts of South America(Thames and Hudson-UK).
We both love travelling, investigating and learning from the many different cultures of Latin America.
We have travelled across South America on a motor bike, a Landrover and once crossed the Andes with 2 donkeys over a period of 11 months.
We love meeting people of different cultures and speak various languages including Spanish, English, Persian and a good knowledge of Portuguese. I even learnt to speak the Inca Language “Quechua”.

Why they chose this property

We love the sun and there is plenty of that in Southern Spain. I had a business for 25 years in Costa del Sol in southern Spain and during those years, I became familiar with this part of Spain. As we got older, we wanted a quiet place for peace and tranquillity, a place where we could embrace nature without noise and cars, a place we could eventually retire to. Hence the Alpujarras in Sierra Nevada. Over 20 years ago, we found this land with several cortijos , stone cottages in Moorish language. They all needed serious attention. So we spent the first 10 years doing them up, growing fruit trees and establishing a vineyard. It's an on-going project as new ideas develop and we spend more time here.

What makes this property unique

Cortijos Rey Fini is unique as it is in the heart of the national Park and perhaps it is the only place in the entire Alpujarras that shares all borders with the national park. We have plenty of water from the peaks of Mulhacen mountain which is a true gift in this part of the world. We are approx 1500 m above sea level meaning even in the hottest months of the year it never gets too hot.
We are only an hour or so from many beautiful Mediterranean beaches and the same distance from Granada and Alhambra. We are surrounded by beautiful scenery with lots of hiking paths and stunning views and wildlife.
Ultimately it is the perfect place to relax, unwind and take a step back from every day life.
