Food stores, restaurants, cafés, and pubs with names reflecting the town's steel-making history provide for all of your culinary needs, and a scattering of shops provide hours of entertainment as you search for the perfect souvenir to take home. Afterward, take a stroll through the woods or, if you're feeling more adventurous, climb Cross Fell for a challenging but rewarding hike. A major shipbuilding and manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution, today Newcastle-upon-Tyne offers visitors a lively atmosphere scattered with shops, wonderful nightlife, and even a beach to spend your time relaxing on, with its history evident in many of its landmarks and attractions. Consett is ideally located for seeing the sights of the North East of England, with easy access to Durham County, Sunderland, and more.
