About this property

Traditional cottage in Tain

A visit to Solus Na Madainn is the perfect way to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its traditional stone cottage situated in the heart of the Royal Burgh of Tain, this pretty renovated cottage has been in the same family for generations. Having been lovingly restored using a Scottish theme, whilst keeping many original features, Solus Na Madainn is a true gem for those who want to experience life in a quintessential Scottish village.

In addition to its beautiful location, this delightful cottage garden at the rear with lawns, shrub borders and flowers adds to its attraction.

On the ground floor: The lounge offers guests comfortable seating for up to 4 guests, TV and a wood-burning stove. The dining room has a dining table and chairs seating 4 guests. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, hob, fridge/ freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and ample pots, pans and kitchenware. The windows overlook the gardens. The shower room has a shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet.

The original wooden staircase takes guests to the first floor: The master bedroom benefits from a king-size bed, bedside cabinets with reading lamps and a wardrobe. The twin room is furnished with two single beds, bedside cabinets with lamps and a wardrobe.'

Outside of the property has a fully enclosed mature garden. Lawn, mature trees and shrubs, flower borders. Outdoor dining table and chairs. Wi-fi is free and an initial supply of logs for a wood-burning stove is provided. On-street parking is free of charge outside the property. Please note this is on a first come first serve basis.

This beautiful cottage is situated in Tain, a historic town in Highland Ross-shire that has an excellent selection of local shops, bars and restaurants. There are a variety of sporting and recreational facilities nearby—including an 18 hole links golf course, tennis courts and of course a superb sandy beach. There are lovely walks all along the coastline and the surrounding woods and trails. The cottage is on the renowned North Coast 500 route. It passes through some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in Britain. Tain is also home to the famous Glenmorangie Distillery, which offers tours to visitors throughout the year. There are numerous places of interest close by.

Quirky lovely cottage in heart of Tain
Prime location if a little noisy especially in early morning as on the main road into Tain town centre. Windows are original case and sash so this is probably why. Lovely furnished. Main bed wasn’t very comfy but maybe that was just us. Quite hard. Nice welcome pack in kitchen and logs etc for the fire. Our dogs loved the garden and if weather had been better we could have to! We did have a small issue but was dealt with very efficiently and quickly. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Spacious 2 bedroom House
We had a great week here in September; within walking distance of Restaurants and Hotel facilities. Quiet very spacious 2 bedroomed house with a large garden to rear for sitting out in the summer months. Plenty of supermarkets in Tain; more than we expected in a small place. Very central for touring local areas of interest.

Wedding & Holiday
Combined 2 Days in Dornoch Castle Hotel with 5 Days at Cottage in Tain after the wedding. The cottage has been modernised but still has some original features. It is spacious, comfortable & well equipped with everything you could possibly need. If you enjoy baking, utensils are all there, including a Food Mixer. The garden is private & was an added bonus as we enjoyed great weather. The shower room was a good size, great shower, Both bedrooms were large with comfortable beds. Cottage was tastefully decorated throughout by the owner, with beautiful blackout blinds in the bedrooms she made herself. We particularly liked the personal items belonging to her grandmother which she thoughtfully incorporated into the cottage when decorating. The sympathetic decor gave the cottage a modern feel, whilst retaining it’s soul. For us, a warm homely feeling inside. A very much loved home !!! Local shops, cafes etc are two minutes walk & Tesco 5 minutes by car. Cottage is very well situated to tour the area. Nicola, the caretaker is extremely helpful & on hand should you need her. Highly Recommend & hopefully return for longer next time.
