About this property

Spectacular Ocean Waterfront - Walk to Pemaquid Light

Enjoy spectacular bold, open ocean and St John's Bay views while listening to the Pemaquid Light Bell Buoy. This is one of the original cottages situated on an ideal lot on a private road. The 'Little Red House' has been meticulously maintained and is ready to help you relax and enjoy life the way it should be.

Read a book in front of the fireplace, walk out your front door onto the rocks, nap listening to the crashing surf or take a short walk to the famous Pemaquid Lighthouse. The house enjoys a prevailing Southwest breeze off of the ocean keeping you cool and bug free most of the time. No matter what you choose to do, you will enjoy the sweeping views & the best Maine has to offer!

Walk along the beautiful shoreline to the famous Pemaquid Lighthouse (back of the Maine commemorative quarter). Take a short drive to Pemaquid Beach for some sand and sun or visit historic Colonial Pemaquid State Park. At the end of the day, relax and enjoy eating lobsters on the deck while watching the sunset over the water!

Incredible views, homey and comfortable cottage, totally relaxing vacation
My wife and I have been visiting this part of Maine for 25 years. We now live in SC and have not been in 5 years. We left the Friday before memorial day from a heat wave of 98 degrees and arrived in the 50's as a high. Just what the doctor ordered. This log cabin cottage looked like it was hand build by a bunch of buds in the 1930's and built well. The handmade wooded door handles were a trip. Go find those at Home depot! Very quiet and private. The only noise you typically heard was the crash of the waves against the rocks and the ringing of the buoy offshore. Great fireplace to relax in front of at night. The queen bed was more comfortable than most luxury hotles I have stayed in. Slept like a baby. Modern shower, kichen and bath. Even though the weather was a lot cooler than we are used to this time of year, we spent hours on the rocks up and down the path, searching for sea glass and chilling. This place is perfect for one or two couples with or without children. Owners were readily available. One must visit site was so worth the drive. We would drive up from CT for years and pass by Reds in Wiscassett every year and pass it by due to the extremely long lines. DON'T! It's about 45 minutes from the cottage. Yes, even off season the wait was 40 minutes or so. The lobster role was the largest, ( had to be a pound and a half of large chuncks, full tails and claws), freshest, tastiest lobster I have ever had. at $23.00 it was a bargain and well worth the trip and the wait. Thank you Horners for allowing us the use of your beautiful cottage! Tim & Shaun Flanagan

Spectacular location, lovely cabin, exquisite sunsets!
We had such a wonderful stay at the Little Red Cabin. Even early in the season, with some rain and chilly weather, it was pure bliss to be there! You couldn’t ask for better sea views and activities nearby. The sunsets at the house on clear days are out of this world. The cabin is comfortable and well-equipped for all needs. Quick walk over to Pemaquid Lighthouse is another huge plus. We look forward to returning some day soon!

Best Vacation ever!
This is our 5th time here and it is always Heaven for 2 weeks, quiet mornings with coffee watching the ocean and lobster boats from the living room and quiet walks to Pemaquid Light House. Even in the fog and rain it is the best vacation ever. The renovated kitchen was nothing less than gourmet and so beautiful. We cooked in every night and it was a joy. Everything was spotless and so elegant. We always feel so fortunate that you allow us to share your home for 4 weeks out of the year. It is so much more than a "rental". It's a home at Pemaquid Point. See you in October...we can't wait. Barbara and Tom Furlong

Maine at its Best
If you don't need water parks, malls, long lines and chain restaurants, but appreciate fresh lobster right off the boat, astonishing scenery, a quiet oceanfront location, excellent local eateries, a sandy beach and wonderfully clean accommodations, THE LITTLE RED HOUSE IS FOR YOU. At nearby New Harbor lobster fisherman unload their catch daily at one of the most photographed harbors on the Atlantic. Taking a ferry ride to Monhegan Island is a must as is watching the sun rise at nearby Pemaquid Point light. Art galleries abound in the area. In the 40+ years we have vacationed along the Maine coast, our time at the Little Red House is at the top of the list. It is well-equipped, spacious and a joy to visit. You will want to come back.

Very enjoyable stay
Cozy house. Plenty of space. Great view. Short walk to Pemaquid Lighthouse. Bar / restaurant a short walk up the road. Outdoor fire pit plus indoor fireplace for those rainy days. Firewood being included was a huge plus. Owner is a great guy and easy to work with. Highly recommended.

Why they chose this property

We rented this home for about 10 years (3 to 4 weeks each summer) before we bought it. We have been coming to the area since we were both children.

What makes this property unique

You can't beat the view, particularly at sunset or the location. Very quiet / low traffic area. The cabin was built in 1930 and retains that character without being rustic. We keep it super clean (we personally do most of the turnovers), well equipped, and the addition (2008/2009) looks on the outside like it has always been there, but the new bath, laundry, outdoor shower, are all high end / luxurious. You have the best of both worlds. Maine in 1930 but with modern luxuries.
