Wonderful Christmas Getaway
This property was PERFECT for my families’ Christmas getaway. Location of the house in Ruidoso is ideal - very close to restaurants and shops and a short drive to the local winter park and Lincoln National Forest. The host was incredible - very quick to respond to questions prior to our stay and attentive to any issues/questions we had during the stay (even on Christmas!) I would HIGHLY recommend this property!

The best mountain getaway!
This was our second time staying at the Cabin in the Sky — we came back because we loved it!! It’s an easy walk to town, and an easy drive to so many cool places. The home is spacious and has a hot tub. We played (waterproof!) cards in the hot tub most mornings! The home owner is very personable and responds rapidly to messages. We feel lucky to have escaped the August Texas heat, at this fantastic cabin. Our kids are 5&8 and they loved the bunk room. We will be back!!

A Perfect Spot for a Getaway!
We decided to go to Ruidoso again for a long weekend getaway, and this time we chose the perfect cabin! The owners did a gorgeous remodel on this 1930's structure, preserving the vintage appeal while incorporating enough high end touches to give this place charm and comfort that doesn't quit. It was such a pleasure to stay here. The location is convenient to most places you might want to go in the area. And, the owners have thoughtfully stocked the cabin (especially the kitchen) with pretty much everything you could need. And that screened in porch with the spacious wrap-around deck and hot tub--WOW!! We enjoyed every minute of our time there, and will definitely go back again. The perfect fairy-tale ending: While packing our car to leave this morning, six deer showed up in the front yard to see us off, including an adorable little fawn. What's not to love about this place? Highly recommend.

Great cabin and location!
My daughter and I loved the house, and it was in a perfect location to access midtown shops and restaurants. We loved the secluded feeling of the cabin and how close it was to everything. We didn’t even leave the cabin the first day because we liked it so much. We even had deer in the yard to take pictures with. We would definitely stay there again. I had my service dog Shiba with me as well. What would have been nice for the dog would have been if the back yard fenced area had been cut so we could have accessed it when we took Shiba out to use the restroom. It was a tough time trying to convince her to use the restroom on the rocky path area, and she didn’t want to go in the tall weeded area around the path. The lot is a huge lot that includes a large back fenced area with a gate to enter, but the weeds there are about 4 feet tall, so there was no way to walk Shiba back there. There is a park down at the bottom of the road by the midtown shops, so we would just drive down there to take Shiba out and walk her around. We walked the road one time, but I wouldn’t advise walking down it because it’s extremely narrow, and there really is only room on the road for the vehicles. The hosts/owners are super friendly, and they responded very quickly to any questions we had. We will plan to stay there again at some point for sure! 😊

Birthday get away
This is the second time we have stayed here. Don’t hesitate to book this cabin. We love that is has a big screened in front porch. When we were there, it rained everyday. It was nice to sit in the screened in area and watch the storm. It is also nice to be able to sit and watch our kids play while we get to enjoy the fans. It is in a great location. The owner is really easy to communicate with and responds quickly. I would gladly stay here a third time.

About the host

Hosted by Cathi Chambers

Host profile image
We are Ron and Cathi Chambers. Cathi was born in New Mexico and her heart never left, so owning a place in the ‘Land of Enchantment’ comes full circle. We searched four states from North Carolina to New Mexico to find a mountain home for retirement, but the trip to Ruidoso ended our search. The heavily treed mountains and cool mountain air, the rivers and lakes, the quaint town with nearby places of interest hit all of our “must haves” and more.

Why they chose this property

Our first cabin is a cozy 1 bedroom in the Upper Canyon with great rental history and reviews (vrbo.com/1941830), so we were encouraged to add another offering to the market. This ‘new’ cabin has plenty of room for family and friends while still offering the sights and sounds of the Ruidoso River. It has the added attraction of being within walking distance of both the Cree Meadows Golf Course and Midtown shopping and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Before this cabin was ready to enjoy, it needed much attention, so we jumped in eagerly to remodel. The kitchen is all new, as is the electrical, plumbing, gas logs, laundry room, bathrooms, hot tub, decking, and energy efficient windows. The original charm of the 1930’s cabin remains with warm wood trim throughout and nature right at the doorstep. The original Great Room was wonderful, so we carefully preserved the space. The vented room-warming fireplace is original as is the beautifully preserved pine walls and log ceiling beams. It’s a great package with proximity to golf and conveniences while having privacy and rich forest views.
Both properties share the same attention to detail that our guests appreciate. Quality bed and bath linens, a well-stocked kitchen, high end appliances, comfortable furniture, and tasteful décor are standard. These are the things that we appreciate when we travel. If you need to jot something down, there’s a memo pad. If you need to charge your electronics, there are USB ports. If you enjoy wine, beer, or cocktails, there is appropriate glassware and bottle openers. If you need to freshen up, there are bath gels for both men and women. We want your stay to be memorable and want you to come back often.
We sincerely hope you choose to stay here often. We love having you as our guests.
